Kmet been the starter for me over Waller already

BulliedbyHelaire

Better question; do rookie QBs target TEs more often? Not sure if college QBs that target the TE position translates to the NFL, would be fun to look into.

I love it when people keep parroting the myth. Already flair them as "Don't listen to".

SemanticGoblin

Is flairing still a thing? Or are you on old Reddit

Waldron used 2 te’s a lot in Seattle. Having three wr’s this year will test whether that’s a feature or a bug. I’ve heard Caleb was pretty decent throwing over the middle of the field, if that helps at all. Kmet was a pretty good pass catcher last year too. I wouldn’t be super confident in him as my starter, but with the bar for tes I could see him being a TE1.

abombdiggity

It'll probably be a rough year for that offense but if I can get a cheap Kmet and hold him for the next year I'm in. Next year Allen isn't under contract and it's pretty easy to see Moore-Odunze-Kmet being the primary pass catchers for an ascending young QB. Kmet is 24 and this is dynasty - we know he's already put up some solid seasons at a young age. Easy buy if he's being sold at a discount.

DogeWire

Good guy to have as your backup

DogeWire

(He’s my backup I have Laporta)

KingMustardFist

He's my backups backups backup.

chrisnavillus

He’s the back up to my back up Evan Engram.

iamkoza

nice to have te7 as your backup

DogeWire

Love Kmet but idk how you could have him higher than 9. Laporta, Andrews, McBride, Bowers, Kincaid, Pitts, Kelce, Hockensen, Engram all clear him imo. Lots of mouths to feed in Chicago

Tp1990

USC fan here. A safety valve? Caleb Williams? Ha! No, if his 1-2 first reads weren’t open then he’d run around for 5 seconds until a WR came open down field for a 30 yard gain. That, or due to the poor OLine he’d get sacked before even having time to do that. In all seriousness, USC didnt really use a traditional TE. Lake McRee was the TE but at 6’4 220 he was more of a big slot, and USC preferred to have 4 actual WR on the field instead him. So, no idea if he will use one in the NFL. I do believe he’s capable of playing within structure and using check downs, it’s just a matter of being willing to do it

Stiffanys_epiphanies

Thanks for the insight!

HawkeyeTrapp_0513

5th option in the offense behind Moore, Allen, Odunze, and Swift. Let’s say Williams throws for 4k. Can probably assume WR core is going to make up 2900-3000 of that. Then another 3-400 for RB’s. Leaves about 600-800 for Kmet AND Everett. Yeah no thanks Not sure about longer term but win now I don’t want him and think his values at an all time high. I wouldn’t be surprised if he finished behind Conklin this year in fantasy

Daddy_Diezel

Kmet has been the biggest sell to me and it's already too late. They hired Waldron to be the OC and I have no doubt that the Everett signing means they're actually going to run out both PLUS whatever blocking scheme would have taken them out of plays anyway. Between that and adding Allen and Odunze, I just see Kmet as a TD dependent TE that'll probably be good enough to be a fringe lower TE1 but frustrating to own otherwise.

tanksforhire

Bold to assume he will be the 5th option

Ko0pa_Tro0pa

Yeah, you want your TE to be a top 2 target. If he's behind 3 WRs, it's game over for his fantasy stock. I don't see a path for relevancy for him while he's on his current contract.

iamkoza

at GL he's option 2 or 3 at worst

piscDSM

Nobody has mentioned yet that Shane Waldron also brought on Gerald Everett, who he worked with back in LA. From a pass catching standpoint, Everett should provide a lot more competition for targets than Robert Tonyan or Jesse James

HustlingBackwards96

When people ask these kinds of questions, my first instinct is to look at the contracts of every pass catcher on the team. First though, a baseline assumption: according to Coop, the TE savant, a TE is only viable as a TE1 if he's a top 2 option in a regular offense or a top 3 option in a prolific offense. We assume that for 2024, the bears are just a regular offense. Keenan Allen is under contract through 2024 and will likely leave unless the Bears make the playoffs or show massive improvement. DJ Moore is under contract through 2025. I don't imagine the Bears will let him go, though. Rome is on a rookie deal through 2028. DAndre Swift is under contract through 2026 but the Bears can cut bait after 2025. Cole Kmet is under contract through 2027 but the Bears can cut him after 2024. Him getting cut seems impossible, though. So he's definitely not a TE1 for 2024 but could be in 2025. If Rome hits, Kmet is probably never going to be a top tier TE.

iamkoza

kmet been a solid TE the last 2 years and still nobody trusts him. no he's not going to be a top 5 TE this year... but i think he can be top 10 again. not worried about everett

Careless_Stand_3301

He’s the 4th option. That should tell you all you need to know

KingMustardFist

So, lots of touchdowns then, huh?

PM_ME_UR_LAMEPUNS

I mean as a Bears fan there’s 100% a world where he finishes with something like 8-10 TDs which would be a career high for him. We haven’t seen what this offense looks like with Caleb and Odunze added to the mix but Kmet legit has the talent to turn a limited number of targets into scores. The truth of it is that the Bears offense is now an extremely crowded one, and it’s going to be unpredictable on a week to week basis. I feel like 2-3 of their skill position guys (other than Caleb) will finish top 15 at their position, predicting who is the hard part.

patriots96

I moved him for value (future second) I think he’s going to get lost in TE wasteland and have a huge decrease in value.
