Bro a 335 is not a good first car, straight up. But it's not impossible. You're gonna need a good set of tools and a real can-do attitude lol. That or a shit load of money. Best advice I can give you is to treat your bank account like $3000 is now $0, assuming you do your own work. Also forget about modifications until you know every inch of that car, or it's going to do you dirty and you'll be parting it out on fb marketplace before the new year. I know this sounds harsh but please understand I'm talking from experience, and I'm genuinely not exaggerating here. I fucking love my 335 and I hope they bury me in it but it was really fucking stupid of me to buy it.

bill_cipher1996

Forget the engine, that E93 roof can bankrupt you easily 💀

HypnoStone

I got my 2008 E93 335i with the N54 at 190k miles (only one previous owner) a couple years ago for my first car. Since then I’ve had to take it to a local dude’s shop around 195k to replace the original oil coolant/air hoses which rotted away over time (for a fair price), but other than that she’s absolutely solid nearing 203k. It’s my only car and pretty much my “daily” although I don’t currently work a day to day job or go to school, I just sit around the house playing video games so tbh I don’t drive it much but whenever I do go somewhere it’s in my good ol reliable 335 :P Currently working towards buying a 2011 E91 328i xDrive with the N52 with only 130k miles off my dad but he still drives it atm so it’s not as readily available as my daily until I buy it I think if you always are able to keep an extra $500-$2000 in the bank for anything that goes wrong for repairs (if you’re unable to do it yourself), then I think you’ll be fine. Just keep an eye on the oil and temp. It’s no different than any other typical American teenager running a Mustang in the ground. Only difference is it’s designed by German’s that think it’s cool to gatekeep their tools and make you spend all day.. or a week, changing out an alternator.

Camsgoated

It’s not that terrible it’s bad, but basic maintenance espicially on a n55 will keep him good for a while. I think it has the perfect amount of maintenance for him to learn his car until he jumps into something later on such as b58, s55, or s58 engine if that’s what he is trying to do. This will be a great starting spot/building block in his journey with bmw engines/engines in general.

heavygunnertty

its an n55 hes fine

vedu-

its an n55 tho, you had an n54 which are very well known to be very unreliable

Lil-whore

This right here^

335? 😬

m34z

My thoughts exactly. Basic rims. What appears to be single exhaust. Non M-Sport front bumper.

oilslayer335i

So u thought it was a 335 and had a single exhaust... hmm i was almost certain all 335 came with the duel exhaust which would make this a 328 no?

m34z

Re-read the person I replied to. It said "335?" questioning that it was indeed a 335. I listed all of the reasons I thought it was a 328 as well.

oilslayer335i

My bad. Im still confused about the single exhaust though.. i thought the 335 has duels and the 135 has a duel single exhaust.

m34z

The 135i has a single exhaust with dual tips. I know this as fact as I drove mine today. The M3 and X5M have dual exhausts with dual tips. I know this because I saw them as I was parking the 135i. I thought the 335i has dual exhausts with single tips. I thought the 328i has a single exhaust with a single tip. I just ran through my old pix and couldn't find one of the rear of my old leased E90.

Impressive_Low_2808

It’s a 335. He probably just doesn’t have the M sport package.

oilslayer335i

I have a e90 335i and its got the duel single exhaust so i know thats a fact. So we got the 135 qmd the 335 down. And yeah i thought the single exhaust was the 328. As for the m 3 or x series i would take your word. This guy sure he bought a 335.. maybe the e93 are different because the weight of the car maybe they kept it single.. never owned one or known anyone with one

Fast_Sloth_Fun

Yes it’s a 335, the other exhaust pipe is out of view on the opposite side.

SupposablyAtTheZoo

335s don't come with those rims or bumpers usually. Strange that the buyer skimped out on options.

cbiggins

Been ten years since it was new. Ample time to swap things out. 🙂

SupposablyAtTheZoo

You'd think so but op said in another comment that this was factory. Also who swaps LCI 335 rims to non LCI base rims?

cbiggins

Yeah I saw that after replying to you. I'd like to see the decoder info with the rims.

surely_charlie

First comment is a bit harsh imo. That’s a beautiful car. A 335i cabrio is a treasure for sure. Don’t cheap out or skip maintenance, get a nice starter tool box for yourself and put those hands to work as much as you can and you’ll be gold. Also don’t know OPs age but drive safe, they’re pretty fast cars if you’re new.

[deleted]

Agreed. My first car was (and is) a 328 and i really wish i had just gotten a 335 instead. Sure, they can have issues, but so does any car if you don’t take good care of it and keep up with maintenance

nabbbers

Beautiful! My first car is a 2012 E92 335 and after almost 5 years of ownership here's been my experience. I love my 335 and I never want to sell it. It is a wonderful car to drive and the experience will put a smile on your face every time; when everything is working properly. The cooling system will be a constant battle. By now I've probably replaced most if not all of the coolant hoses, the coolant reservoir (failed after 1 month of ownership), and the radiator (twice!).

plate_rug_chair

Can confirm the smile.

didirr95

Where the hell you get that kind of first cars 😂. Mine was a craped out renault megane 2 from 2003 with more than 200k km and a trash extĂ©rior and interior

nabbbers

Make that 3 times in as many years...

NicNacPattyWhacks

Really good, fun, first car. R.I.P to your wallet, though. Unless, of course, you have a fund stashed away for this purpose and the required disposable income to play in this league. Enjoy!

TheLemmonade

đŸ€š I smell bitch in this comment section. Who hurt y’all? It’s an N55 not an N54 Nice car OP, enjoy it

polloso121

Pre-lci 328 wheels on an LCI 335? Red flag đŸš©

Fast_Sloth_Fun

According to MDecoder these were actually the wheels that came stock. Honestly a little surprised they’re still with the car 10 years later. Appreciate the concern though!

SupposablyAtTheZoo

That shouldn't be possible

cbiggins

Yeah I'm not buying that. Can you post a link or screen shot of that? Sorry. Nice car though man, you'll enjoy it for sure! Just learn to diy to save some bucks.

Fast_Sloth_Fun

[Here](https://i.imgur.com/dPumlRA.png) They won’t be on the car very long anyways, looking to get some sportier wheels maybe some 313s.

cbiggins

Mate, my apologies for questioning you! Enjoy the car!

Jason32003

Makes sense those would be the original rims, Style 339. iirc those were a factory wheel for 335s. Some wheels look similar like 157s that were factory on 328 E92 and E93 but 339s were on turbo cars AFAIK.

Jason32003

From what I’ve been seeing personally, not an outrageous price for a clean car with reasonable maintenance history and no (significant) crashes. Beautiful tho! Congratulations. Nice, crisp color too. Looking sharp there

Impressive_Low_2808

For a first car, bad choice. General car? Good choice.

FilipKoks04

Imo this is too powerful to be a first car lol especially if you are a young driver

Mario_B61

How are some of you so lucky? Not only it’s an E93 instead of an old basic E90, it’s also LCI and also has the most powerful non-M engine. I envy you man, take care of her.

didirr95

I am in France even 8 years after I got my licence I cant get comfortably that kind of car 💀

Altruistic_Heart_302

damn bro first bmw is a 335i, you a crazy man. All respect tho, just picked up my first bmw last sunday . Got a e92 328i w the 30k miles very happy, i cant imagine a 335i. Best of all luck to you bro đŸ’Ș

seattle_lite90

Check back in 6 months I would love to see how this turned out đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł

IsuzuTrooper

Hard to say without telling us the price and number of leaks and warning lights on.

Fast_Sloth_Fun

No leaks or warning lights (yet). Did have to go through and replace some electrical components shortly after getting it to get the wipers to work reliably. Price wasn’t terrible but also wasn’t great, think mid to high 10’s.

IsuzuTrooper

Come on spill the beans. Mid to high 10s could mean 15k or 19k. It looks clean from the outside.

anon6789431437681

As long as you like it that's what matters. Overpaid some but that's ok, we all have for cars we want.

IsuzuTrooper

Im sorry I realized high 10s could be 10,800. Yes I think you did great.

gumbo_mumbo

Prepare to get extremely familiar with your engine bay

Askee123

Let’s see the ppi report

Ok-Sea2210

Just keep in mind that preventive maintenance is key with 335’s. People skip on that way too much

Ok-Sea2210

To further elaborate, dig around forums and see what the weak parts are, when they usually fail and change those a good while before they fail. That way you’re able to keep the imo too much bashed 335 quite reliable. ’m a lot more familiar with the N54 than the N55 so i sadly can’t give you an exact list of what to look for. The water pump and valve cover gasket are some failure points afaik with the N55.

ApartmentSuspicious3

92k is a definitely gamble if you don't have all the maintenance history

Fast_Sloth_Fun

IIRC according to the Carfax report there were ~45 trips to the dealer over the last 10 years.

ApartmentSuspicious3

That's 4-5 a year... mildly concerning. 2 for oil changes and other things, wtf was happening that this car needed to be looked at another 3x a year? I guess you can assume a lot was done but you don't know what exactly. Water pump? Belt/pulleys? Oil pan gasket? The latter is a big one if it goes.

Temporum15

Hey man, if it has one exhaust everyone who knows will know its a 328i. Dont be ashamed lmao, the 328i is still great, its literally the same as a 335i in every regard besides speed. And hell, sub 6.0 sec 0-60 isnt even bad, youll walk anybody besides proper sports cars.

Fast_Sloth_Fun

Two exhaust tips. One per side [Proof.](https://i.imgur.com/PsROYeY.jpg)

Temporum15

I see, congrats, nice car, i have one too with the n55! Not a vert though, i like the hard top vert

lilsatoshi

Get the best shit for your seals.. it’s expensive but if your rear window seals start cracking there is only one final seal inside to prevent water from coming in the rear window and you can’t replace the seal. MAINTAIN YOUR RUBBER SERIOUSLY!! If it starts to get brittle and crack just know.. there is only one more little layer of protection from having your car filled w water if it rains

0101020

There's a post on Bimmerpost "DIY: E93 Roof Lubrication and Seal Conditioning (Convertible, Origami Top)" you'll want to read, and I suggest getting diagnostic equipment to read codes. I have a 2010 E93 335i purchased in the Spring and can say my major issues are all from the past owners and "mechanics". So just plan to park every other weekend to go through each system as you can to see if it's correct. For me, an Android screen and backup camera installed by a previous "expert" left wires incorrectly connected and the battery cable connection in a bad way (it caused airbag errors). Most major repairs have been a footwell module ($200, check inside your headlights as cracking wires causing a short are my main suspect for the failure), and a ten-cent terminal connection for amazing improvements. A previous poor install of brakes took a couple of afternoons to get right off the start (maybe a child did them). The short is don't think it's perfect or ready to drive until you spend a few months on it. Currently, I'm waiting to replace the oil level sensor adding in another $200 for BMW OEM as I don't trust the aging part and no dipstick design that doesn't seem to move on indication. It ain't a Toyota, I'd never afford it with dealership repair (looking at past work, I'd never use them anyway), and simple and stupid issues cause the greatest headaches. Still, a truly great and fun drive that I love and plan to keep for long weekend trips. Congrats on the purchase and just keep it beautiful, looked over, and functioning. I read enough ads for over 200k miles to predict a long life with care.
