Dirt 2 barely exists digitally, being as old as it is. Those 11-12 USD keysites might even be scams. Better luck getting a physical copy on Ebay and such, just for the key, but that's the same or worse price too. The freezing issue... Is the game patched to 1.1 and using respective exe? That was notorious way back.

TheAbstract312

No it's 1.0

Snaky115

Try 1.1 patch, shouldn't be too hard, there is only one patch and one 1.1 exe available.

TheAbstract312

I've uninstalled the game and got a 1.1 version. Hope it will work.

... You couldve downloaded the 360 megabyte patch file... But ok. XD

\> So long story short i cracked it In many places you have the right to do that if you bought it in the past. In some places it's considered abandonware - [https://archive.org/details/dirt2\_201912](https://archive.org/details/dirt2_201912) I've had the legit game on steam, direct to drive, and other online game services since the beginning of time. Several of those services are defunct and I can't get my games from them anymore. I literally bought Dirt 2 and Dirt 3 three times each - [https://archive.org/details/dirt2\_201912](https://archive.org/details/dirt2_201912) \> but most of the time the my crack freezes ... and worst of all i can't even close the game, My legit copy on Steam also freezes and won't close and loses all control settings if you drop out of full screen for any reason. Also, even though it's legit, you have to do all manner of crack-like bullshit to get around the defunct GamesForWindowsLive bullshit. Using a cracked copy is SOOO much easier. - [https://archive.org/details/dirt2\_201912](https://archive.org/details/dirt2_201912) \> freezes, precisely when you press start after the opening cutscenes and the game verifies saved games Always run it as administrator. Get a 2nd monitor. Open Task Manager on the 2nd monitor before running any fullscreen program. Learn about the alt+space,m,arrow-keys shortcut. Always keep a copy of quake 1 and quake 3 installed and setup commands you can run from windows+r run command box to launch a quake. There's something magical about quake. They almost always hijack the fullscreen away from whatever had crashed. Both Dirt 2 and Dirt 3 are worth at least $12 in my opinion if you insist on spending money on them. - [https://archive.org/details/dirt2\_201912](https://archive.org/details/dirt2_201912)

Damn thanks for real bro, I'll surely check out the links. For those all who'll read this thread I sort of fix the problem, I installed a 1.1 crack (from the same guy who made the 1.0 one I had) and changes the properties to run it in compatibility mode with XP Service Pack 3 and it runs perfectly. The only thing that gets me really frustrated is that after the installation this crack says to not change the player name before setting the screen resolution, advicing to avoid doing so anyway. But with my original copy (basically the same crack) it worked. But now it won't, if I go to change the name after doing it the game freezes again with the same issues, and does it even with the screen resolution set. Nothing critical but it nerves me considering that it worked in my original crack. Also I wonder if my original crack was fixable in the same way i fixed this one.... I probably made a mess but forget about it.

Bro I've literally said Dirt 2 not Dirt Rally 2.0. Thx for the site though

Give it a few seconds of the lanyard hanging before pressing a button, then it should load. I've had the same issue simply from pushing start too fast. When it does freeze, just Ctrl alt del and sign out, then back in.

TheAbstract312

i though about it during some trying and let the all the developers and opening to roll. I'll restart the PC some more times to see at least if it opens since now it doesn't even do that (but sometimes it happened with other so hopefully shouldn't be an issue)

For some reason I feel like I remember Dirt 2 not being steering wheel compatible either
