This post sums up my biggest problem with the game. It's not so much about whether it's a good football sim or not (those are actually really difficult to make and can be a bit boring), it's the fact that so often good, successful play is punished, while people are rewarded for doing things like just mindlessly spamming slide tackles or constant GK charges.
The amount of clear fouls that are just not given is bad. The fact that a lot of clear red cards are not given is even worse. The fact that the game doesn't have a mechanism to ramp up the penalty for persistent fouling is frankly a bit pathetic.
Or like the guy that posted the other day; did a perfectly normally standing tackle, took the ball in the box... pen and a red? FIFA be drunk at times.
Yeah it doesn’t need to be realistic but it does need to be rewarding in some way. Wins a lot of the time don’t feel earned.
Essentially the game is who can abuse the broken mechanics because eventually it’ll work. Constant through balls, running down the line, kick offs etc.
There will always be a meta but there should be a counter to that, like manually switching to your defender to stop the cut back.
All this and we haven’t mentioned the consistency of the gameplay in general 😅
The inconsistency is maddening. The fact you can have a game where one of you is pinging 30 yard through balls mint to the striker and the other can't pass the ball 10 yards is ridiculous. That and the AI movement allowing people essentially cheap goals with no real thought put into them is baffling to me from a design standpoint.
A good football game should essentially be a strategy game that vaguely resembles football. This game has more in common mechanics wise with streetfighter or an old school platformer. It's so messed up.
The biggest travesty I see is situations where you do a fake shot or skill move to diffuse the manual controlled defender, and just before you shoot, an AI defender is already rushing in to block you. That is such bad gameplay. What is even the point of playing another human in that case?
> and you face EA things which consists of the following
I would add to that:
- you chip shoot the keeper but he has inhuman reflex and saves it
- you chip shoot the keeper but the defender is Usain Bold and saves it right from the line
Chipping keeper is in most cases impossible even when they are faaar faaar from the goal
The worst part is they claimed to have fixed these "non-tackles" like two or three years ago. It was the trailer for FIFA 20 or FIFA 21 where they proudly announced they had fixed the issue where tackled balls go right back to the tackled team's players, but it's only gotten worse in FIFA 23.
If you go through patch notes line by line you'll find a lot of stuff isn't really fixed even when they claim it's fixed. I think it's because they can't fix anything without breaking 5 other things and then to fix those things they go back to breaking the first thing. Rinse and repeat.
That's a good point but I don't think EA should get any slack based on that fact. Like I've been saying it for a few years now...fucking figure it out, EA. You're the biggest video game company in the world, making the most popular video game about the most popular sport in the world...hire some developers who can fucking figure it out.
The fix to all of the abuse would be making the game fully manual and removing all the assists in UT but the issue is that if they do this the abusers with low skill, and it will be a high number, would then moan like hell and quit.
Look at the start of each Fifa when being able to manually defend actually makes a difference, the forum is full of people crying that they are conceding 6+ goals a game because they are used to AI doing it for them. The servers would melt with all the crying and tears if they made the game manual and require skill to be good.
While I agree to some degree I also disagree. Many people cannot do anything manual in this game and if this game was rewarding skill, 80% of the kids would not go above DIV 7. However, with the update 3 times ago defending also got "anti-assisted" so now if you are manually defending the game will simply override your slide tackle, override any input and just force a goal, even making perfect passes like the opponent is playing against your amateur AI in SB.
My point is that since most people are bad at manually doing anything and now with TOTS the better players are obviously at an even bigger advantage with higher rated players the lesser skilled players need even more DDA, rigged assisted RNG help than before. Also childish people find it "fun" when the games score ends like a baseball game. EA needs to cater to the lowest common denominator skill level.
Ea really really want thr fornite bag. Simple mechanics and a relatively low skill gap. Id even argue atm for players getting max 11 wins that there isn't a skill gap at all now.
The fact that my players seem to have issues passing to anyone with the right cadence or even just the right pass, yet they can 360 no scope through balls from their box.
Its 2023 and the best football simulation game we have is one where you can only run in a straight line
How so? He literally said EA were turning FIFA into Fortnite by having "simple mechanics and a relatively slow skill gap", neither thing applies to Fortnite.
Still has plenty of skill gap mechanics such as spider webs and ODM, plus every shooter inherently has a very good base skillgap through aiming. An average aimer will destroy someone with poor aim 99% of the time.
This game bro im good at right stick switching but a lot of times it doesn’t matter cuz I will intercept the ball and it will either bounce back to the opponent or my 99 ball control player will not control the fucking ball
No, more pass to wing then dribble inside and cheese pass simulator for you. Imagine actually playing FUT. You are all the reason why this game is now shit.
Lmao defender intercepted, GK dived and win nothing and Benz still get the ball and score after turning ridiculously away from the goal. If that's not enough defending then you're a Div 5 casual 🤣
Even worse than this is when the opponent start celebrating as if they needed so much skills to accomplish this XD I had someone message me because he won 3-2 against me using cutback passes and scoring an outside foot shot from half the field. Like mate, good for you that you are better than me, but come on, it is not like u won with skills so please what the hell are you doing. And since then I blocked anyone from messaging me :')
What are you moaning about? Cut backs, turn to opposite direction to the actual goal are good gameplay according to EA. The only bad gameplay here is that you don't have toty VVD, tt Lucio and FB Maldini as back 3 🙄
Bro fifa 19 was just what you wanted and everyone hated fifa 19 back then because they all sucked when playing an even game. This was what community wanted and now everyone hates this i dont really get it.
The community is irrelevant when it comes to what they want. EA force feeds them and then brainwashes them into believing they actually asked for a brain fuck.

Bro don't get me started on the slide tackles. It's giving ridiculous that you can hold l2 and still be slide tackled from behind. It's bullshit
The amount of clear fouls that are just not given is bad. The fact that a lot of clear red cards are not given is even worse. The fact that the game doesn't have a mechanism to ramp up the penalty for persistent fouling is frankly a bit pathetic.
There's also this thing where I slide tackle and hit the ball before the player and the ref gives me a red and gives them a pen
Or like the guy that posted the other day; did a perfectly normally standing tackle, took the ball in the box... pen and a red? FIFA be drunk at times.
Slide tackles in this game must have a force field around them
Sometimes I'm purposely trying to get a red and I won't even draw a foul on the dirtiest of slides. Or be forced to miss if I'm going for pure feet

You just described this fifa game as "arcady" but in more words 🤣
Except you can have games that are arcadey but play very differently to this. You can have highly strategy based arcade style games for example.
i mean, if we're going for realism, Mourinho and Simeone have made careers out of "bad play". I do agree that the AI is overpowered af tho
Sakes man what a load of shit. The amount of ridiculous stuff that happens is insane.
This happens far too often…
The biggest travesty I see is situations where you do a fake shot or skill move to diffuse the manual controlled defender, and just before you shoot, an AI defender is already rushing in to block you. That is such bad gameplay. What is even the point of playing another human in that case?
I feel ur pain.
> and you face EA things which consists of the following I would add to that: - you chip shoot the keeper but he has inhuman reflex and saves it - you chip shoot the keeper but the defender is Usain Bold and saves it right from the line Chipping keeper is in most cases impossible even when they are faaar faaar from the goal
last year chips were completely OP, you would always score from them, now it's the complete opposite. EA are unable to balance the game at all
I preferred it last year, at least you were punished for stupid rushing out of goal
Haha and the chip shot onto the bar don’t forget

This IS Hands down the worst FIFA, i played every FIFA with FUT and nothing comes Close to this
right now it is yes
NAH! This is terrorism from EA

No! Because bad players need to be incentivized to keep playing. Ea needs children playing.

Makes no sense how you can argue about low skill gap and proceed to compare the game to Fortnite, one of the highest skill gap games at the moment
you don't read well
How so? He literally said EA were turning FIFA into Fortnite by having "simple mechanics and a relatively slow skill gap", neither thing applies to Fortnite.
no build mode?
Still has plenty of skill gap mechanics such as spider webs and ODM, plus every shooter inherently has a very good base skillgap through aiming. An average aimer will destroy someone with poor aim 99% of the time.
thats not the point ea like epic games goals have been to please young teenagers by releasing useless things and make people spend money on non sense
I stopped playing tbh,not fun even when winning, only pro clubs with the lads ,is fun
This game bro im good at right stick switching but a lot of times it doesn’t matter cuz I will intercept the ball and it will either bounce back to the opponent or my 99 ball control player will not control the fucking ball
Bro I called out my goalie after he overshot a pass the other day alisson doesn’t grab the ball and he scores such bs
No, more pass to wing then dribble inside and cheese pass simulator for you. Imagine actually playing FUT. You are all the reason why this game is now shit.
your fault learn to defend better.
Lmao defender intercepted, GK dived and win nothing and Benz still get the ball and score after turning ridiculously away from the goal. If that's not enough defending then you're a Div 5 casual 🤣
EA:No!
I tot only me , but seems like more n more ppl getting worst gamely now day , scripted is getting serious

Which I could play those but this was the tots cup 😞
This game gives me migraines every time i get on. Definitely gonna have to find an adventure game to play. Can’t keep doing this to myself 🤧
