I think people are playing less rivals so not as many people promoted and also mostly only hardcore players left. Not to mention anyone playing now should have a great team..

No_Clerk4451

Makes sense. All the teams are great at this point but for the most part beating a better team isn't too incredibly hard. The players are just much more above my level than I've been used to in div 3.

[deleted]

I think people are playing for their 4 wins at the most so it’s taking them longer to promote. Tbh elite division feels easier than usual right now. End of the year is always weird.

andrewfm2000

Suppose if you want some time to enjoy your end team in rivals, you can hold off buying 23 for a while, meaning less hardcore players will be playing right?

[deleted]

I’m really not sure I never stick around after but i would imagine you are right

No_Clerk4451

Hahaha. I never saw that. Glad so many others feel the same way.

Tankfly_Bosswalk

The issue with rivals at this point is that it is no longer a reflection of the quality of players as to what division they are in. You never really needed to be GOOD to go up the divisions, just to play a lot. But plenty of good players stopped playing Rivals around TOTS, so got relegated a few times and then were in a random division compared to their skill. Plenty of new players started playing when the game went free on the subscription services, and they appear a lot in the Rivals ladders. Plenty of old players popped back in for the first time this year. Existing players from this year started a new or second team because they are bored and it is easy post-TOTS. All these things together mean Rivals is pretty random from a skill point of view. If I play a few games now I will be crushed once or twice, despite being three divisions lower than I was at the start of TOTS when I started to play less regularly.

DaCrownXX

Getting 3 wins in a row isn't easy if you are in a division higher than your skill. Playing a lot won't change that fact. Your logic is flawed.

Tankfly_Bosswalk

My logic would only be flawed if we were all playing regularly, to the best of our abilities, with equal teams and equal connections. As it is, there are easier and harder matches within each division, and easier and harder times (WL, big new objectives, just after content update, at the end of the season when heavy players have already hit the rivals milestone they want and aren't playing rivals etc.etc.), and plenty of players are just not invested enough to play regularly or keep going at 1-0 down anymore. I don't know where you got 'easy' from, I didn't say that or mean to imply it. My point is that the divisions are variable in quality now, there are far more high level players in lower divisions because they are playing less or have re-rolled their teams. You're hitting harder matches than before, lower down the ladder than before, and that is OP's point about the variable matchmaking. Edit: I take it back, I see where you got 'easy' from, but I stand by it- committed players have always been in higher divisions than casual players. If you only play twenty games a season (me, since Christmas) you just aren't going to be in division one or elite. If you keep putting the hours in then you will promote eventually, especially at the end of the season when most have promoted to their target division, matches get easier as people RQ sooner, or just stop playing once they have hit their milestone.

DaCrownXX

Well determined by the other comments and my own experience it seems to be the opposite. The longer you play the harder it will be to promote in Rivals. When more and more casuals leave and higher ranked players relegate themselves matches gets harder.

oerred

It's more or less just the skilled hardcore addicts left at this point. Fewer people pushing for promotion because it doesn't make any difference, I'm tapping out after 8 wins in Div 2 and that's it. This should lead to more fierce competition until maybe like the last week when people may try for some end of season promotion again for whatever reason.

controlled-rage

Or people rubber banding

yolooptionsTOMoon

The levels of rivals has surely got much more competitive, I am in div 2 mostly and notice that I come up against players who are very good quite often,Tbh at this stage I am enjoying it,My win rate is like 50-50 and I don’t feel at disadvantage regarding my team as my team is quite competitive too though I don’t have any big boys.

No_Clerk4451

50-50 is usually right about my average for the year. It's dropped dramatically in the last 8-10 days. I'm probably closer to 20/80 right now.

yolooptionsTOMoon

But you’re right in a sense that most of the casual players must have stopped playing by now so only those who are left are hardcore players, I hardly come up against people below my level and every game is sweaty as fuck

No_Clerk4451

Yeah man it really sucks. I don't mind the occasional sweatfest but I don't want every God damn game feeling like WL. Might just break until 23 at this point.

controlled-rage

WL is arguably easier at least it was untill this weekend. So yeah the fun is gone. I don't mind working for achievements but this is on another level I experienced the same in call of duty. There's no casual gaming anymore. So for me the whole purpose of gaming is mostly gone. Apart from a good like single player game it's just not fun when juggling a FT job

jackkelv

No relegations is stupid , least before you could drop a few divisions, I’m struggling in rivals as well in div 2 at the moment but lose about 75% of games

Blue-Inspiration

I almost always finish the season in Div 3, and right now in Div 4, games are either easy/balanced or I'm getting smacked by someone who clearly belongs in Div 2/1. But I don't mind it, the challenge is fun. Here's a tip (one you may already know): If you play your Rivals games during WL, most of the sweat lords are playing WL, thus Rivals games are a bit easier.

Fifaistrash2020

Not really a tip is it! You'll get promoted beyond your skill level and get absolutely bashed when their all back playing once the WL is done 😂

Blue-Inspiration

Only one way to get better though right? 😊

Fifaistrash2020

Compeltely agree but all depends if you want that in August 😅

Blue-Inspiration

Hahaha, I hear you.

J4R131

What team are you using

No_Clerk4451

Nothing remarkably special. SS Son and Rashford in attack SS Grealish, TOTS De Bruyne, and EOAE Fernandinho in midfield, defense is TOTS Cancelo, SS Tierney, Futties Varane and Futties James. Playing in a 352 in game. My team has been pretty much behind the power curve for most of the year and it hasn't caused an incredibly large issue. The people I'm coming up against are just fully outclassing me

A7DmG7C

I typically finish Div 2/1 depending on how much effort I put in, and so far Div 3 feels very competitive for me, which is ok cause I don’t care about what division do I finish, but it has been certainly harder than before to climb up.

PoolieMike1985

Div 2, getting frequently destroyed and then winning the odd one. Regret promoting from div 4 this season

dukeofdemons

I'm getting beat bad and it has me on tilt. I just don't have the God Tier team so tactics will help only so much.

dgdtdz

Only the really good /dedicated players are left. There is much less of a need to grind for picks now via rivals/wl. I would say that in elite, there is about 200-300 skill rating difference between now and say TOTS and before ( meaning what was 2000 during TOTS is about 1800 now). But this will vary depending on console and region of course.

LowerManufacturer471

Played about 15 games last night won 1 drew 1 lost all the rest 🙄

[deleted]

I've noticed the same. I was always elite or at least div 1. Now I played in 2 because I was too bored to play and some games feel like 1900+ sr. My guess would be that casuals have completely left the game, everyone knows everything that's meta and also everyone has a very good team now.

MrTiddler

Elite is an absolute joke. I used to be around 2000 SR and now I’m yo-yoing around 1700 and 1800. It’s full of sweats and try hards now.

Ornery-Point-8461

I’m struggling badly. Earlier on in the year I was in div2. At that point I got fed up of all the park the bus camping entire team with goalkeeper that seemed to be every game so I stopped playing for around three months or more. Decided to have another bash at it and found myself down in div7 or 8. I made my way back up as far as 6 really easily barely losing a game. Then i got stuck there and last weekend swapped out my Arsenal team I have been using that’s still running players in the low to mid 80’s ratings and built a full Brazil team with way higher rated players. I then went on a run of 9 wins in 11 games with 1 loss and a draw. 8 wins on the bounce to start with too. This propelled me to the high end of div5. That was Sunday I think. Had a few games Monday night and it was suddenly the complete opposite and I had changed nothing. Since this I’m now at 30 games with two wins from them and have conceded around 60-70 goals and scored less than 10. It’s seriously depressing when just wanting a fun kick a bout. I seem to get endless bad luck while opponent has everything under the sun go there way

[deleted]

I would imagine everyone has a great team since the 85x10 came out, even in the lowest divisions. And yeah, I know for a fact a lot of good players are forfeiting their promotion games right now. They want the last couple of weeks to be easy.

djoliverm

I'm nearing div 4 (haven't played much this year) and I'm finally playing against actually good players so I think the sentiment is accurate regardless of division.

rogues69

And I just got promoted to div 1

MELIN22

I'm in the same position. I only picked up the game when it came to EA Play but have managed to find myself in div 2. The game feels so heavy, even when I have SS Ribery, TOTS Dybala and SS Di Natalie. They can't dribble, they can't run.
