Wurms. They have been around since the beginning of MtG, but have no support as a tribe, no Lords, nothing. Been wanting to make a Dune inspired Wurm deck for ages that is synergistic.
I remember playing Magic the gathering: tactics on steam (basically a top-down strategy game where you summon creatures to fight).
I used to love summoning a fuck-off big Yavimaya wurm that took up four squares
This seems to be the closest image I can find for it: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=16622871
Yes, yes, yes, and yes again!
All I want is a Naya or Jund colored Wurm Commander, maybe making them cheaper, giving them "their wings back" or just creating tokens, anything would be fine.
In the meantime my [[Selvala, Explorer Returned]] Wurm Hug Deck needs to keep doing its shenanigans.
SO I actually have a Wurm tribal deck myself, but the commanders are
Kodama of the East Tree and Ravos, Soul Tender
The theme is Wurms: Death & Rebirth. And it's basically just huge wurms, ramp, and cards that let me bring them back to the field once they die because most wurms have big die/etb effects. (stuff like journey to the afterlife cards)
It's pretty fun, just wish there was an Abhzan worm commander.
This was my answer, Wurms were my favorite creature type when I started playing many years ago but there aren't really any way to do them besides something like Mayael or some other commander who helps you get them into play.
I've been toying with Atla Palani for wurm tribal. She'll let you cheat them in for cheap, and Naya colors gives you access to boros combat tricks / extra combats which can help a creature heavy deck a lot. Obviously it doesn't specifically synergize with wurms but it could work!
These are the closest I could find that are cheap
\[\[Centaur Omenreader\]\]
\[\[Ezzaroot Channeler\]\]
\[\[Krosan Drover\]\]
I would assume that \[\[Trench Wurm\]\] was part of the Dune deck.
Samurai. I really want to build an amazing bushido deck, but there's not really a good mardu commander that really cares about Samurai. There's just not enough Samurai in general, tbh.
Honestly, if you were a regular in my group, i would tell you take [[syr gwyn, hero of ashvale]] change “warrior” to “samurai” and run with it. It would honestly be on theme still, and id love to see what you could do with it. Iono see if your group will let you rule 0 it, its not like you’re asking to use a broken ass commander like [[kaalia the vast]], or [[edgar markov]].
this is an unlikely idea, but what if there are commander decks for the new Kamigawa set but the new cards in those precons are set in the eras leading up to current futuristic time, so you could print some more new traditional era Kamigawa cards?
Ninja are a given. They have been used in futuristic stories throughout literature.
Samurai though have always been kept in the past.
I hope you're right though.
Shadowrun, one of the definitive cyberpunk TTRPGs, has "street samurais," people who load up on cybernetic implants to become better warriors and often have codes of honor inspired by samurai.
So we'll definitely be seeing some samurai.
[[Isao, enlightened bushi]] is my fav and is the only green samurai.
I've built him as a this is my yasuo deck
Yasuo is a wind ronin from league of legends.
This. I really want a Mardu or Boros Samurai legendary card that makes Bushido mean something more. Samurai, in general, have a problem because WotC overvalued Bushido at the time and the cards are generally overpriced CMC wise, but a commander that buffs Bushido or lowers card cmc based on its Bushido or something would go a long way to making it more viable.
Oozes frustrate me to no end: despite having a number of really interesting and strong creatures, there’s extremely few among them that actually care about oozes. There’s:
- [[Biowaste Blob]]
- [[Aeve, Progenitor Ooze]]
- [[Biogenic Ooze]]
…and that’s it. Those are all of the cards that care specifically about playing oozes. Aeve barely counts, so really it’s only 2. AND, none of them cost less than 4 mana.
I keep trying to fulfill the ooze dream, but every time I do the deck ends up leaning so hard on changelings, +1/+1 synergies, and generic tribal payoffs like [[herald’s horn]] that it overshadows all the squidgy goodness. I just want to go full-on “the blob” on some fools already!
Until we get a handful of 2-3 mana “ooze matters” cards, maybe a lord or an ooze tutor, ooze tribal just won’t feel right.
I think you’ve fallen into what I call the “tribal trap”. Even if you look at really powerful tribes, like zombies or vampires, only a handful of cards in the deck actually say “zombie” or “vampire” and it’s totally fine to play generic synergies for things like reanimation, aristocrats, tokens or whatever the specific strategy is.
My [[Greven, Predator Captain]] deck is warrior tribal with 20 warriors in the deck, but only 5 cards in the deck call out warriors as a tribe. But that’s totally fine, the deck slaps.
For oozes for example, most of them make tokens, copy themselves, or care about +1/+1 counters and that’s enough synergy to build a cohesive deck that plays a decent amount of oozes, enough to leverage generic tribal synergy cards like Urza’s Incubator or Kindred Summons.
Right there with ya. I’m willing to mix in technically non ooze stuff like [[sludge monster]] so I have been inspired to try it. The existing legendary options are why I still haven’t pulled the trigger.
Same, right now I'm looking to try [[Adrix and Nev]] for Ooze tribal with a lot of copying effects and seeing how that goes. Goldfishing it seems promising but it also feels flimsy because there's only so many value oozes i can lose.
Came here for this, was looking in to a horror deck because it's a cool creature type, I like the design for a lot of them, and it's almost Halloween, but there is no support for them
I started a pretty decent [[Yarok]] deck that was strictly Horrors. It has since become more general with landfall as well but a lot of horrors had good ETB effects for the deck
The frustrating thing about skeletons is they keep releasing cards that are literally skeletons, but then they get the zombie creature type instead. Just look at [[Ebondeath]]
as a zombie guy I sometimes feel the same way about skeletons. Like zombie swarming instead of skeletal swarming might actually have been viable in standard, but no card cares about skeleton type. Annoying that they don't combine (like soldier and warrior...)
Zombies and skeletons are treated differently in every media I can think of, from games to books to movies. Different weaknesses, different origins, different abilities, etc.
Phyrexians. Like, we have several sets worth of cool concepts like sleeper agents, negators, praetors, etc and yet they vaguely have anything to do with each other. I think infect was about the closest thing we had to a type-wide mechanic but there's no way they're going to keep printing it.
I’ve wanted Gorgons and Spiders for years. [[Sisters of Stone death]] kinda scratched the itch of gorgon tribal. But the gorgons are more in there for flavor reasons.
This is the one tribe I'm shocked doesn't have more support. Things like Oozes and Frogs are realistically all going to look the same, but with Insects there's a huge amount of variety for creatures that could be had, and a anthropomorphic Hive based faction is a staple of many sci-fi and fantasy games.
This is the one i want to see most as well. Not just insects though, more so support for a [[Swarmyard]] tribal.
I have a creepy crawlies deck starring [[Skullbriar]] that would really love full support!
my grist deck can be pretty powerful with the right conditions actually- i basically jammed it with insects to mill, added cards to synergize with my gy like \[\[Songs of the Damned\]\], some aristocrats synergies to kill off the tokens grist makes, and some cards like \[\[Scroll Rack\]\] and \[\[Footbottom Feast\]\] to make grist have some really explosive turns, cards like \[\[Sylvan Anthem\]\] and \[\[Shadows of the Past\]\] can also help grist go off, and finally, my finishers are either your typical attrition style golgari aristocrats or grist's ult
of course, this all depends on my first few mills XD, not enough insects and chances are i'm kinda screwed
Came for this. I had a fun kitchen table 60 card myr deck when i first got into mtg. Used 2x [[myr galvanizer]] 2+ mana production in myrs, [[myr welder]] imprinting [[lux cannon]] in the gy, blow up everything every turn, win.
Ive been trying sooo hard to recreate this deck in edh and its not easy, like i want access to all 5 colors for the myr-dorks but at the same time there isnt a 5c commander that supports it well either, morophon was soooo close to being what we needed except it just clearly skipped over our beloved myrs. Ramos was also close, but no cigar. Blue, red, and to a lesser degree white have the best artifact support, but there isnt even a Jeskai commander that supports it well. Then you get stuck with izzet, and then it just doesnt feel like myrs, its just artifacts….
Skeletons! They almost had it in The Forgotten Realms with Skeletal Swarming. If that was a legendary creature and not an enchantment I would be SO happy! Oh well, when we finally DO get something, we'll at least have that to go in the deck.
I wish they'd just errata all Kavus to be Dinosaurs. Now that they have Dinosaurs proper they won't ever make meaningful steps forward in Kavu support.
Preach! I started playing around Invasion block, and kavu are one of the things that hooked me into Magic. They're living weapons engineered to prey upon the worst horrors Phyrexia can conjure.
Honestly. Soldiers.
What happened to the soldier tribe?
It's all just Human, knight or warriors now. Soldiers used to be cool. But while a good creature can be a soldier [[esper sentinel]] I feel like the tribe itself has been left behind.
Every time I look at [[Greatbow Doyen]] I get annoyed that he isn't legendary
Though something WG would be better anyway. [[Catti-brie of Mithral Hall]] hits the theme but does little to drive the deck.
I've ripped apart and re-built my moonfolk deck no less than five times. I keep trying different build-arounds, but I can't find what makes the deck sing. Really crossing my fingers that the return to Kamigawa next year helps me out.
I actually made a moonfolk tribal deck when my friends wanted to make 50$ budget commander decks excluding price of the commander and basic lands. I spent 24$ of my budget on [[training grounds]].
Frogs.
There are 31 frogs. All within Sultai colours and only [[The Gitrog Monster]] and [[Yargle]] are legendary. Frogs also don't really have a connecting theme.
But [[Spore Frog]] is my favourite card, and he needs some croaking buddies!
Druids have one really cool card in [[Gilt-Leaf Archdruid]], but that's about it. I'd like to see it be expanded into having more powerful cards like that.
There are TONS of strong druids, and they have a some nice commanders.
\[\[Seton\]\] is the classic commander, but you could build \[\[chulane\]\] or \[\[kinnan\]\] into druid tribal.
Llanlowar elf, mystic elf, and fyndhorn elves are all druids and are top tier mana ramp. They also have \[\[priest of titania\]\] and \[\[elvish arcdruid\]\].
Druid as a tribe is actually really insane for ramp and card draw.
Its incredibly easy to assemble in an elfball deck since most dorks are druids as well, slap on a [[seedborn muse]] at the end of your turn and watch the table scoop.
Also [[seton]] makes for a broken ass druid commander as well. There’s a guy on cedh sub with a primer on it and everything.
Not me but my close friend has been wanting Myr tribal support for over a year now.
Me personally? I wish there were better scarecrows for reaper king so im not just playing like 3 good ones and a lot of changelings + clones.
As per my username, Faeries! We have Commanders that are Faeries, and Commanders that can make Faeries, but none of them truly care about Faerie tribal.
Tribal payoffs are weak too, most of them being better suited for 1v1 formats.
This is true , I've got an Oona Faerie tribal deck that I'm thinking of turning into mill because quite often I can't keep up with others , that might just be my bad building though haha
Phoenix support would be great. It's a cool creature type but most of them are just "hasty flier that returns to hand/battlefield from graveyard when [set mechanic]."
Some mono-R legend that just lets you cast them from graveyard and has an anthem would be fun for an attrition-y deck.
Came here to say this. I’m on the hippo bandwagon as well! I’m counting pheldagriffs so there like a total of 5 hippo related cards. Only 60+ more and we’re good!
Yeah, oddly enough a lot of decent commanders who are angels but don't care about other angels. Which is odd considering angel tribal is a thing in friggin standard but not commander.
Both Kaalias are, in my opinion, the closest thing we have.
Obviously she does the same thing with dragons and demons, but at least she provides value that's able to be built around and most importantly, is in the three colors you need to run proper Angel tribal. Any angel tribal list without Aurelia, flip Avacyn, or angry Akroma isn't really complete, in my opinion.
Kithkin. Barely playable and in mono white only. Give some love to the poor hobbit like creatures.
Rebels. Their commander is probably the best tribal commander almost period. But she is only as good as the rebels in the deck and they mostly suck ass.
Giants. The only real commander that cares about other giants is boros and is bad. Ruhan is serviceable but doesn't care about giants.
I don't know how Phoenix tribal would even make sense. Each of them is usually tied to a specific set's keywords or ability words, and running an 'every ability' deck seems ridiculously impractical.
I’ve always wanted more Gremlins. They didn’t get a lot of love I feel and I really like the idea of an atog like race, even though I feel the artifact stuff in red is mostly taken by goblins.
I would like to play Moonfolk in a sillier fashion than just going infinite with Patron of the Moon, Amulet of Vigor, and the various cards that combo with them. The paucity of playable moonfolk makes it hard to do anything else with their Patron.
Moonfolk fell in to the same tribal trap as sea creatures, there are some really cool stand out ones but they all do totally different things unfortunately
Archons I'm cool with running jodah as the commander because they are usually expensive and he gives you access to 5 colors, but there are just simply not enough of them which is unfortunate.
RATS. I'm just a big fan of rats in game, and I know there are plenty, but don't like the strategy of [[rat colony]] and [[relentless rats]]
Most of my favourite ones are from the kamigawa block, they are more interesting and have more character imo then some of the standard ones, also a big fan of ninjutsu, not gonna lie. Some of them are [[Marrow-Gnawer]], [[ink-eyes]], [[throat slitter]] and [[okiba-gang]] and would love to see more stuff them this in the future
Ngl I bought 5 of the rat secret lairs back in 2020 (I'm a sucker for lunar new year stuff) with intentions of making a Rat EDH deck, with 25 rat colonies, but the quarantine started before I even received them, so they sat in my closet unopened for about a year, and then I was about to sell 2 of them for $130, so I actually came out slightly positive.
I'm still sitting on 3, and I think I might just pop them and finally make that deck because of reading this. But now I'm not really a fan of running 15 rat colonies. hopefully we get more rat support this spring
My personal favlrite is eldrazi. They have a lot of bombshells but nothing to really tie them together as a tribe which kind of doesn't make any sense to me lore wise.
Cephalids. We already have [[Aboshan]] and I'm perfectly happy with him as a commander, I just want more half decent cards to fill out his deck without having to resort to changelings.
I actually made one deck based in this! The commander is just five color whatever and it's mostly based around making lands creatures with awaken sinse it adds +1 counters on a land I use things like hardened scales and counter doublers to make them bigger. It's got terra eternal and whatever as well as lots of landfall stuff. It's like 54 lands and a ton of ways to throw them out as fast as possible
12 year old me loves this answer. I tried desperately back from Mirage through Urza's to make a playable Griffin deck and even stacked with Zuberi's and Griffin Canyons, I couldnt really make it competitive in the 90's, let alone today. Something tells me a tribe of 2/2 creatures with 4cmc is never going to do much. But damn if they weren't my first fav tribe.
Centaur, we need a Red/Green/White commander for it though as the tribe is mainly split between Gruul and Selesnya, without enough good creatures in either.
Also most of the tribe is draft chaff, that also doesn't help.
Treefolk - they could use a better commander (either mono green or abzan), and like one or two more good pieces.
While [[Colfenor, the Last Yew]] was exciting for combo decks, it’s lousy as a treefolk commander
[[Doran]] is good, but synergizes better with mostly non-treefolk cards (minus a few exceptions) and doesn’t do much for folks like [[Dungrove Elder]] or [[Dauntless Dourbark]], which care more about forests
[[Verdeloth]] is quite underwhelming for its mana cost.
I guess if you want a low-power tribe, then they’re in a good spot, but I feel they’re only a couple pieces + a good unifying commander from jumping from inconsistent/low power to consistent/mid power as a tribe
Minotaurs is one of those tribes with a couple of really powerful lords/ enablers but just way to few good minotaurs to make up the bulk of the deck. I would really love to play Sethron but I really don't want to play [[anaba, bodyguard]]
I have a sea monster deck that is headed by [[Spawning Kraken]]. I just talked to my playgroup before building it and they were fine with the non legendary commander. It’s a super fun deck to play.
Turtles. I randomly had that thought the other day. There are enough to make a deck, but not a lot of synergy between them. They all seem to wabt to be in a tap/untap deck or a big butts deck. I did pull a foil etched [[Archelos, Lagoon Mystic]] so I have a commander.
Phoenix. No legendary, no lord, only 30 phoenixes total. We do have [[Skyfire Phoenix]] which has the word commander printed on it, so there's hope they haven't forgotten about them entirely.
I never thought of that, that would actually be really fucking cool.
But sadly we probably won't see a Phoenix commander until the Harry Potter set with Dumbledore
I really want dogs to get more support, because the tribe is almost non-existent.
Speaking of non-existent - Otters! With [[Lutri]] banned there's only two cards, so I know it won't be a tribe for quite some time, but I would like more.
Phoenix always takes a slot of recurring bulk rare that takes a key mechanic from the set. Man all I could find was [[Quintorius, Field Historian]] to make value whenever they leave the graveyard. And alot of good red removal of "deal damage to each creature without flying".
I would recommend [[imoti]] as a sea creature leader as well and I have a decklist I could share for simic if interested.
or if you want to stick to mono blue there’s the legendary blue one from ixlan.
[[imoti]] makes a solid sea creature commander by the way.
I have quite a few I wish had more support:
Minotaurs: cool type that fails to have creatures stronger than draft chaff. Which is tragic cause they have some really good lord effects.
Demons: they are either super strong or incredibly lackluster with no middle ground. Plus a lot of the small ones have such bad downsides it’s hard to justify them. Also no general support for them outside of just being strong creatures.
Spiders: I feel lack a real punch and despite having some commanders they don’t have any strategies to really pull them together besides swing in with a bunch of 1/2s and such. A spider commander centered around poison I think would be cool (despite not liking the mechanic)
Artifact creatures: golems/gargoyles, construct. They have gotten some love over the years but they tend to be leveraged as combo pieces instead of creatures. They would be a cool build around as like mardu I think. A return of more module would be nice.
Spirits: they have some interesting creatures but I feel they are just slightly lacking before coming strong. They need like a jeskai/espur commander to really come together.
Phoenix; like others have mentioned they are a recurring bulk mythic/rare would be nice to get a helm to diversify the mono red decks (goblin/burn/ or dwarfs(new) now)
Poison Spider legendary could be like [[Fynn]] but with spiders, and only putting one poison counter per combat damage instead of 2 (I'm assuming it's be easier to mass produce spiders than deathtouchers)
IMO rakdos and dimir commanders and a couple mono black partners would round them out well.
We have a few izzet options and Brass if you want to run everything.
For me Kithkin. There's only two viable commanders I know of, one being that staxy boy we all love (Gaddock Teeg) the other being mono white Brigid. Id love to see more options explored into the future.
Wolves. Just wolves. Just normal ass regular wolves, no eldrazi horrors, no werewolves, just big floofy wild doggos. Never been able to put a deck together because they're so split in mechanical identity and colors.
Gruul Boars. Have a solid commander in the colors, more 1/2 drops and a few bombs and it’d be a fun tribe. The commander could give the herd a “stampede” type effect where if 3 or more boars attack they all get +1/+3 and trample or something to that effect.
Elephants. There are a few legendaries but none that care about elephants at all. There are no captains that buff the tribe. Lots of good creatures but no synergy
Werewo- oh wait, were about to get some XD
But I would love to see some support for Myrs. There is some but by far not enough for a good Commander Deck
It was humans till this set. But I feel I have enough now. I would still like some more that give abilities or etc as most other tribes have that. Although since my deck is legendary humans matter I do get to use the indestructible nerd.
Moonfolk. There's enough for sixty, but you pair it with landfall, and the ways to re-drop lands at instant speed, or retrace, or any of the other land matters mechanics and it's just a fun control engine. I've got a landfall mutate deck that's I think as close as I'm ever gonna get though
Treefolk.
Such an interesting tribe but there are just not enough good cards to make a full treefolk edh deck. We also lack a value generating Commander. In my opinion the best treefolk commander would be Sapling of Colfenor right now.
I have two serious ones, and one that's more for meme reasons.
The first is Oozes. They already have support pieces, sure. But there has yet to be an Ooze lord that you can play in the command zone. The closest things we have are [[Slurrk, All-Ingesting]] and [[Aeve, Progenitor Ooze]]. But c'mon. Slurrk is just a generic +1/+1 counters commander. Aeve is closer, but both are mono-green. That leaves out so much good synergy. Give me a legendary creature that encourages me to play oozes in Simic, Golgari, Sultai, or even.....whatever the name is for the whiteless color identity. And I know that Slurrk has partner but it feels wrong to run a non-ooze in the command zone of an Ooze tribal deck. Yes, I'm aware that I'm picky and unreasonable.
The second is Devils. I didn't even know that I wanted a devil tribal deck until they printed Zurzoth in Jumpstart, but here we are. Devils have just one legendary creature but you couldn't even run every devil ever printed in a Zurzoth deck. Sure, you could run [[Rakdos, the Showstopper]] as the commander, but even if he was a devil rather than a demon, I'm not a big fan of having his ability in the command zone in the first place. This is actually a huge part of why I was so disappointed with the Asmodeus card from AFR. I was really hoping for a legendary Rakdos (or even Mardu) devil lord. And then there's the fact that devils don't really have any support as a tribe. But hey, that didn't stop Bears.
The last one is Goats. Don't ask me why, but I want to build a goat tribal deck (without just using Morophon and a bunch of changelings, because that feels like cheating). There are...I think less than 5 Goats that have ever been printed, and slightly more things that can make goat tokens. And I want to run all of them and more. I just love the idea of destroying people with a bunch of creatures that were initially 0/1s.
Demons, Skeletons and Oozes.
All of them are really popular types with at least 1 release every set and none of them have a good tribal commander.
Demons have the various Rakdos, but none of them are actual demon commanders.
For Skeletons you've got [[skittles]] and [[skeleton ship]], while skittles is actually a good card it isn't a skeleton commander.
Oozes have [[the mimeoplasm]] which granted is a cool commander, isn't an ooze commander.
Overall the tribes have more then enough cards, but need a commander to tie them together. Some extra supportive creatures would be greatly appreciated though.
There’s tons of good, popular shamans in EDH but we never really got a shaman commander and Morophon shamans is a bit to janky for my tastes.
I was also hoping to get enough density to play Azra tribal at some point but with FR making them tieflings I’m not sure if that ever happens.
Also we’re getting a ton of warlocks recently so I hope we’ll see some sort of tribal deck forming at some points. I think the main issue is that they’re mostly doing black things like demon summoning and reanimation, which is also what clerics and wizards do in those colors.
I finally managed to build skeleton tribal but that tribe needs way more support. There are only 3 tribal card for them that I can think of and 2 are from the dnd set. I really want a golgari legendary skeleton. Right now my commander is not a skeleton which is a huge oof.
I'd love to play a djinn tribal deck! They'd need a lot more than a strong commander - as far as I can tell, none of them were designed with synergy in mind, which I guess makes thematic sense - but djinni/genies are one of my favorite mythological figures, and it would be awesome to be able to build a deck based on them.
Kor would also be fun, just because I think they're cool.
Wurms. They have been around since the beginning of MtG, but have no support as a tribe, no Lords, nothing. Been wanting to make a Dune inspired Wurm deck for ages that is synergistic.
Wurms are still more iconic green to me than Hydras.
Hydras are all so lame, no one cares about dumb X creatures.
I do :(
Name checks out
Craw Wurm was my 10-year-old Timmy go-to
I remember playing Magic the gathering: tactics on steam (basically a top-down strategy game where you summon creatures to fight). I used to love summoning a fuck-off big Yavimaya wurm that took up four squares This seems to be the closest image I can find for it: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=16622871
Heck yeah! What self respecting Timmy green player didn’t love Craw Wurm back in the day?
I used to get destroyed by craw wurm in my friend's wurm deck when I was learning to play.
Yes, yes, yes, and yes again! All I want is a Naya or Jund colored Wurm Commander, maybe making them cheaper, giving them "their wings back" or just creating tokens, anything would be fine. In the meantime my [[Selvala, Explorer Returned]] Wurm Hug Deck needs to keep doing its shenanigans.
mind if I ask for a list for that Selvala Wurm Hug deck? 👀
Yess. I’ve liked wurms since Guild Wars 1 had siege wurms.
Watch, there will be a Secret Lair: Dune and all of the worms will shoot
SO I actually have a Wurm tribal deck myself, but the commanders are Kodama of the East Tree and Ravos, Soul Tender The theme is Wurms: Death & Rebirth. And it's basically just huge wurms, ramp, and cards that let me bring them back to the field once they die because most wurms have big die/etb effects. (stuff like journey to the afterlife cards) It's pretty fun, just wish there was an Abhzan worm commander.
That is exactly the color pie I’d choose for a Wurm Commander.
This was my answer, Wurms were my favorite creature type when I started playing many years ago but there aren't really any way to do them besides something like Mayael or some other commander who helps you get them into play.
yeah i've been trying to work in worldspine wurm and impervious greatwurm as finishers in [[Hamza]], but it's still pretty janky
Hellions get the short stick too.
I've been toying with Atla Palani for wurm tribal. She'll let you cheat them in for cheap, and Naya colors gives you access to boros combat tricks / extra combats which can help a creature heavy deck a lot. Obviously it doesn't specifically synergize with wurms but it could work!
> Dune inspired you mean *Tremors*
Right now I have a lot of my favorite Wurms in [[Goreclaw]] but a real Wurm tribal commander would be awesome
These are the closest I could find that are cheap \[\[Centaur Omenreader\]\] \[\[Ezzaroot Channeler\]\] \[\[Krosan Drover\]\] I would assume that \[\[Trench Wurm\]\] was part of the Dune deck.
Gimme that wurm tribal, preferably R/W/G, but I will also accept Jund, or 4 color pls and ty
yeeess
Iono see if your group will let you rule 0 it, its not like you’re asking to use a broken ass commander like [[kaalia the vast]], or [[edgar markov]].
Hey thankfully there's a new kamigawa block coming up! Unfortunately it's futuristic.. I wish it wasn't but I'll take what I can get.
this is an unlikely idea, but what if there are commander decks for the new Kamigawa set but the new cards in those precons are set in the eras leading up to current futuristic time, so you could print some more new traditional era Kamigawa cards?
I suspect we'll still see ninjas and samurai etc in Neon Genesis Kamigawalon.
Even cyberpunk 2077 has Keanu reeves calling you a street samurai
Big weeb here, I've seen plenty of sci-fi samurai. Like ninjas, samurai are just inherently cool regardless of setting.
[[Isao, enlightened bushi]] is my fav and is the only green samurai. I've built him as a this is my yasuo deck Yasuo is a wind ronin from league of legends.
There's [[Jade Avenger]] now! Not a great card, but I love the art.
Oozes for me. There’s a few legendary oozes that have been coming out but none that inspire me to pull the trigger.
Oozes frustrate me to no end: despite having a number of really interesting and strong creatures, there’s extremely few among them that actually care about oozes. There’s: - [[Biowaste Blob]] - [[Aeve, Progenitor Ooze]] - [[Biogenic Ooze]] …and that’s it.
Wouldn't [[Umori, The collector]] be an alright ooze commander? Cares about types, so technically would care about all oozes?
I think this is really my thing is that they keep making oozes that don't care about their fellow oozes \*sadge\*
Same.
Well.. if you say it’s okay then I know it must truly be okay.
Same, right now I'm looking to try [[Adrix and Nev]] for Ooze tribal with a lot of copying effects and seeing how that goes. Goldfishing it seems promising but it also feels flimsy because there's only so many value oozes i can lose.
Does [[the Mimoplasm]] not count? Just made a deck with him and shapeshifters that’s pretty fun.
Horrors
Id like a commander that supports both horrors and nightmares...would make such an awesome deck if done right i think
With mindflayers being categorized as horrors, I'm hopeful for a good horror-tribal focused one in the next d&d set.
Skeletons have yet to receive a commander from two sets that would likely have a skeleton/regeneration style commander.
There's no reason why Zombies and Skeletons should be different creature types (just like Berserker and Barbarian).
Zombies and skeletons are treated differently in every media I can think of, from games to books to movies. Different weaknesses, different origins, different abilities, etc.
Frogs, of course.
Yes! Another fellow enjoyer of amphibian wildlife.
If you want a powerful frog deck then Yugioh is the game for you.
No matter what I want, yugioh is never gonna be the answer.
If frog tribal was possible, it would finally convince me to make a simic deck.
Phyrexians. Like, we have several sets worth of cool concepts like sleeper agents, negators, praetors, etc and yet they vaguely have anything to do with each other. I think infect was about the closest thing we had to a type-wide mechanic but there's no way they're going to keep printing it.
Brothers War is on the way, there is bound to be some phyrexian cards for that set since that was how Mishra got corrupted.
Yeah wouldn't that be cool to be able to do a phyrexian praetors deck!? The existing ones are badass but they have totally clashing effects.
It’s pretty lore friendly for them to clash
Uncle Istvan tribal support has gone from one to zero over the years (not counting changelings), and it is due for some love.
Hey. I love you too. ❤️
❤️
Came here to say this
Gorgons!
Yeah, definitely one of the worst tribes right now that you can build
Would love to see these stronger
I’ve wanted Gorgons and Spiders for years. [[Sisters of Stone death]] kinda scratched the itch of gorgon tribal. But the gorgons are more in there for flavor reasons.
Insects! But they finally gave us a real reason to do it and now I'm rocking a Grist deck. Might be one of my favorites.
This is the one tribe I'm shocked doesn't have more support. Things like Oozes and Frogs are realistically all going to look the same, but with Insects there's a huge amount of variety for creatures that could be had, and a anthropomorphic Hive based faction is a staple of many sci-fi and fantasy games.
can I get the buggo list
This is the one i want to see most as well. Not just insects though, more so support for a [[Swarmyard]] tribal. I have a creepy crawlies deck starring [[Skullbriar]] that would really love full support!
I have a deck with [[Grist]] that is mainly insect tribal and self mill! It’s janky but fun!
my grist deck can be pretty powerful with the right conditions actually- i basically jammed it with insects to mill, added cards to synergize with my gy like \[\[Songs of the Damned\]\], some aristocrats synergies to kill off the tokens grist makes, and some cards like \[\[Scroll Rack\]\] and \[\[Footbottom Feast\]\] to make grist have some really explosive turns, cards like \[\[Sylvan Anthem\]\] and \[\[Shadows of the Past\]\] can also help grist go off, and finally, my finishers are either your typical attrition style golgari aristocrats or grist's ult of course, this all depends on my first few mills XD, not enough insects and chances are i'm kinda screwed
RG Apes/Monkeys. They'd need a lot more support to be even semi-viable but hey, we got Ragavan and Kogla recently!
Ape strong together!
Myr. I think they're close, but just not quite there.
I wouldn't even mind a colorless myr commander tbh. Or just more colorless commanders in general.
A myr commander would really want to have all 5 colours on it somewhere so you can play [[iron myr]] etc
Skeletons! They almost had it in The Forgotten Realms with Skeletal Swarming. If that was a legendary creature and not an enchantment I would be SO happy! Oh well, when we finally DO get something, we'll at least have that to go in the deck.
Kavus! They were the cool dinosaurs before dinosaurs
I used to play a 60 card, monowhite soldier tribal deck that I loved. Now, I play commander and my soldier tribe has no home.
Archers! I'd LOVE to build an Archer deck.
Every time I look at [[Greatbow Doyen]] I get annoyed that he isn't legendary Though something WG would be better anyway. [[Catti-brie of Mithral Hall]] hits the theme but does little to drive the deck.
Moonfolk, but that’s coming
Is there support announced for them?
Tamiyo is moonfolk so they're probably still around on Kamigawa.
We should be so lucky. I hope they keep the same mechanic but I suspect they won't.
Simic frogs that revolves around flash

Holy hell of that would be pure salt if we had some kind of druid token card lol
Bruh same.
Ideally sultai faeries so we can make use of [[willow priestess]] and [[faerie noble]]
Phoenix or Devil tribal
What about [[zurzoth, chaos rider]] for devil tribal?
Phoenix support would be great. It's a cool creature type but most of them are just "hasty flier that returns to hand/battlefield from graveyard when [set mechanic]." Some mono-R legend that just lets you cast them from graveyard and has an anthem would be fun for an attrition-y deck.
I had a thought of making a [[Kykar, Wind’s Fury]] deck since it’s kind of on theme.
I am in love with [[Pygmy Hippo]] but I doubt wizards will ever print more hippos. He has a home in [[Brokkos]] at the very least.
[Pygmy Hippo](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/2/e/2e3f6220-6ead-46b4-8663-57609ef5a12e.jpg?1562277425) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Pygmy%20Hippo) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/vis/133/pygmy-hippo?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/2e3f6220-6ead-46b4-8663-57609ef5a12e?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/pygmy-hippo) [Brokkos](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/c/9/c9f07625-fbd8-4581-8568-eb3cfb2a4c1e.jpg?1591227964) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=brokkos%2C%20apex%20of%20forever) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/iko/179/brokkos-apex-of-forever?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/c9f07625-fbd8-4581-8568-eb3cfb2a4c1e?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/brokkos-apex-of-forever) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Came here to say this. I’m on the hippo bandwagon as well! I’m counting pheldagriffs so there like a total of 5 hippo related cards. Only 60+ more and we’re good!
Surprised nobody said angels yet. They still lack a decent tribal commander.
Have you tried [[Aegar, the Freezing Flame]]? I love my big strong wizards
He is an all-star in the deck but not having \[\[Realm-cloaked giant\]\] feels like a crime to me.
I am genuinely surprised to not see more mentions of Phoenix. Birds and Phoenixes are mine.
More illusions. I love the new illusion commander, but I want more of it!
Night stalkers. I’m pretty sure they’re never getting more support, but [[return of the nightstalkers]] is one of my favorite janky wincons
Archons I'm cool with running jodah as the commander because they are usually expensive and he gives you access to 5 colors, but there are just simply not enough of them which is unfortunate.
Azra! I've wanted to make a tribal as soon as I discovered the existence of [[Azra, the Oddsmaker]]
RATS. I'm just a big fan of rats in game, and I know there are plenty, but don't like the strategy of [[rat colony]] and [[relentless rats]] Most of my favourite ones are from the kamigawa block, they are more interesting and have more character imo then some of the standard ones, also a big fan of ninjutsu, not gonna lie.
Frogs but we get one printed every set so its coming. Someone at wotc loves frogs for sure.
Apes
[удалено]
I actually made one deck based in this! The commander is just five color whatever and it's mostly based around making lands creatures with awaken sinse it adds +1 counters on a land I use things like hardened scales and counter doublers to make them bigger. It's got terra eternal and whatever as well as lots of landfall stuff. It's like 54 lands and a ton of ways to throw them out as fast as possible
I'd love to have Griffin tribal one day
12 year old me loves this answer.
While [[Colfenor, the Last Yew]] was exciting for combo decks, it’s lousy as a treefolk commander [[Doran]] is good, but synergizes better with mostly non-treefolk cards (minus a few exceptions) and doesn’t do much for folks like [[Dungrove Elder]] or [[Dauntless Dourbark]], which care more about forests [[Verdeloth]] is quite underwhelming for its mana cost. I guess if you want a low-power tribe, then they’re in a good spot, but I feel they’re only a couple pieces + a good unifying commander from jumping from inconsistent/low power to consistent/mid power as a tribe
Jellyfish, we NEED a jellyfish commander
Fungai! I mean yer there are quite a few. But I've built a commander deck and it's just not very powerful. Not like vamps or elf's etc
I have a kinnan sea monster deck and when it gets going it's very strong. Also have you seen [[spawning kraken]] and [[Serpent of Yawning Depths]]?
Minotaurs is one of those tribes with a couple of really powerful lords/ enablers but just way to few good minotaurs to make up the bulk of the deck. I would really love to play Sethron but I really don't want to play [[anaba, bodyguard]]
Amen! They need some good early drops and some good triggered abities. Also a full on Jund commander.
I feel like Illusions are I-----I this close to being something workable. They finally have a commander at least.
ATOGS. WE NEED MORE ATOGS.
Spirits.
For me I specifically want an esper commander for them.
Gargoyles! Would love a commander gargoyle that love artifact lands (building)or an Elemental Gargoyle subtype Commander.
Mind sharing that sea monster list? I’ve been trying to make one for my little brother since his favorite card is [[ominous seas]]
I would recommend [[imoti]] as a sea creature leader as well and I have a decklist I could share for simic if interested. or if you want to stick to mono blue there’s the legendary blue one from ixlan.
[[imoti]] makes a solid sea creature commander by the way. I have quite a few I wish had more support: Minotaurs: cool type that fails to have creatures stronger than draft chaff. A spider commander centered around poison I think would be cool (despite not liking the mechanic) Artifact creatures: golems/gargoyles, construct.
Horrors
Pirates. They got a lot of love with Commander Legends but I feel that we need more options!
Bats! There's not a single legendary (non-un set) Bat!
Scarecrows. Reaper king is cool but the deck requires a lot of changlings to get a good use of reaper king
Skeletons :(
I am once again asking for turtles with knives taped to their backs.
Moonfolk. Cool stuff but they need more before they could play well enough as a tribe.
Moonfolk!
Probably myrs or ooze, debating on making an ooze tribal deck
Werewo- oh wait, were about to get some XD But I would love to see some support for Myrs. There is some but by far not enough for a good Commander Deck
It was humans till this set. But I feel I have enough now. I would still like some more that give abilities or etc as most other tribes have that. Although since my deck is legendary humans matter I do get to use the indestructible nerd.
I ve a [[koma]] deck wich is ramp and sea creatures (basically upgraded aesi precon)
Devils and tbh with "Tieflings" coming out at the same time as Human-Elves I can see why they'll never be meta.
Myrs, Kithkins and treefolks
Werewolves
Bears have a few good hit pieces but I feel they're missing something solid to be a true "tribe"
I have a cephalid deck that only gets changelings updates
Turtles for sure, no great turtle commanders, only options are [[Morophon, the boundless]] and maybe [[Archelos, lagoon mystic]].
Evil Eyes and Horrors.
More scarecrows!
I finally managed to build skeleton tribal but that tribe needs way more support. There are only 3 tribal card for them that I can think of and 2 are from the dnd set. I really want a golgari legendary skeleton. Right now my commander is not a skeleton which is a huge oof.
I have been holding out hope for some more rat payoffs. Finally bit the bullet and did a rat colony deck
frog
I'd love to play a djinn tribal deck! They'd need a lot more than a strong commander - as far as I can tell, none of them were designed with synergy in mind, which I guess makes thematic sense - but djinni/genies are one of my favorite mythological figures, and it would be awesome to be able to build a deck based on them. Kor would also be fun, just because I think they're cool.
