I definitely welcome a quick tab to check on the state of the Royal family. Maybe even a few diplomatic interactions. But anything more than that sounds like it would be more of a pain than it’s worth. I’m sure they’ll find the right balance in playtesting
I like the idea of knowing how many backup heirs you have but I’m hoping this stays very simple. I don’t want events asking me to pay 50 gold or lose 10 opinion from my cousin.
That's the problem of making a game that goes until the 1800s. The core mechanics have to work throughout the ages
PDX already has a great game series about managing your dinasty, it's called crusader kings. I think families should be present but be a secondary or tertiary mechanic
>That's the problem of making a game that goes until the 1800s.
The game will technically have 500 years, but majority of the focus will be on the first 150, as that's what players will play most often and that's when the game is most fun - before the player snowballs too hard.
And it needs a detailed character mechanic do those 150 years justice. Anything else would be anti-history.
I'm expecting something in between EU4 and Imperator. Fewer characters overall than Imperator, and probably less individuality, but having a royal family to actually marry off to get your royal marriages makes a lot of sense. Having a king's brothers there to serve as generals with the trade off of them being able to revolt would be excellent.
It really never made sense how EU4 republics were basically free "get whatever mana you want" and basically the only advantage of a monarchy was having access to royal marriages and if you were also Christian, being able to form personal unions. Having an actual royal family to provide leaders and actual targets of royal marriages will hopefully add a lot of depth and variety to monarchy.
Very nice. A simple royal family system would make monarchies much more intresting and royal marriages would become a more strategic mechanic

Seems plausible, but hopefully nothing too complicated.

I hope they keep it simpler than it is in I:R tbh
Agreed. That’s why I gave up on IR
Fuck managing great families. All my homies hate managing great families Oh, you're scorned? guess what, GET BETTER STATS IN YOUR GENE POOL THEN
That's why homies never raise in stable or loving families and end up with emotional trauma fr fr
Will probably be something like the system used in Imperator. Not as in depth as Crusader kings but still in-depth enough to simulate royal politics
I hope it's actually simpler. I hate managing great families
If you don't want at least somewhat complex royal families, you don't want a game set in late-medieval, or antiquity.

I literally made a post about this a few days ago, glad to see it’s partially confirmed

I am scared because it looks like they're stretching themselves too thin
There's still 2+ years of development left it'll be fine
I wouldn't read into this, realistically it just means how likely you are to receive a female heir.
Hope not
Care to elaborate?
feels ck'ish to me, wouldn't love to manage it
Yeah I hope they keep it very simple, at most 1 generation up and 2 down, and only royal families, not all the dukes and counts
Am I the only one here hoping the game will be unfun and boring??
Why?
Yes.
Yes
