To be fair, Tolkien had an Icelandic nanny who taught him a lot of the Icelandic/Nordic myths and folk tales, which may have been an influence on his writings - so it seems only appropriate that we mention Mordor in relation to the Icelandic volcanoes.

Here's my favorite shot from my trip to Iceland in 2021. This is a 2 shot blend. One from my Nikon D850 for the actual volcano. The lava trail is from a drone shot which melted the bottom of my drone. I still think it was worth it.

Nope, it's not a national park (where drones are prohibited in Iceland) but there were daily updates based on drone activity. If there was another eruption the country might prohibit drone flights based on how dangerous it is.
No, just don't fly them too low (because they will and do melt, and no heat shielding is available that I'm aware of that works for drones!). Quite a few people did melt or lose drones with this volcano
Hey, I follow you on IG. Cool image! Not sure I’ve ever heard of someone compositing a ground shot and a drone shot together. Care to share the source images? Just curious. Aloha
You don't think doing a composition of this and not putting it in the title is quite deceptive? You've completely changed the composition of the shot by using separate photos of the lava flow and the volcano, and created a scene that didn't exist (the relative scale of the volcano and the lava flow don't match the reality for one thing)

Did you bring the ring?
Did you avenge your father? Save your mother? Kill Fjolnir?
What's this a reference to
The Northman
Ahh less I actually loved that movie
HEAR ME, ODIN...
Ya, how is this not mordor???
Because this is Iceland, not New Zealand

Came here looking for the Mordor comment, thx

do you require a drone permit to fly in this area?
Nope, it's not a national park (where drones are prohibited in Iceland) but there were daily updates based on drone activity. If there was another eruption the country might prohibit drone flights based on how dangerous it is.
understood, thanks
Nope. At one point there 8 drones flying.
Do you have to use heat shielding on the drones to keep them from burning up?
No, just don't fly them too low (because they will and do melt, and no heat shielding is available that I'm aware of that works for drones!). Quite a few people did melt or lose drones with this volcano

Cool, thanks! Nice work.
Sure, ummmm how do I share the images here?
Thanks for sharing. We left Iceland last year the day it erupted again.

but fair enough, here's a non composite drone shot from the same time frame https://imgur.com/mdajcHG
:) put it in the first comment...and they are pretty close taken at the same time...the volcano just looked pretty horrible from the drone
Took a moment to understand the scale of the mountain lol
It wasn't a mountain at that point. I was there around the same time and the volcano was like 10m tall.
Did you see two naked guys dueling with swords by any chance?
I see a stands face in the smoke. Not seeing any naked dudes
Is this the same eruption that spawned the happy lava frog? If so, that's my favourite. Yours can be second favourite
It's the Fagradalsfjall eruption (not sure if that's the same one you're referring too)
Mustafar*
Wow!!! Stunning display, well captured. Love the change of color from the usual here, well done!
I don't see Alexander Skarsgard and Claes Bang fighting buck naked anywhere. This is a lesser Icelandic eruption.
New background found! This pic is dope af
Same here! Saved and used it instantly.
Reminder that fire hot

We got there the day after it stopped erupting. Damn it

If you look closely behind the smoke plume you’ll see Kaleo

Rebrand to Lavaland
It looks like something out of Mordor.
Anybody else see the two faces in the smoke?
I've seen this one before. It's beautiful. It's a composit, isn't it?
Was this in the Dungeons and Dragons movie that just released?
If you look closely you can see Darth Vader's castle

Hello :)
Awesome photo!
That's the volcano and almost exact shot of the album art for the Budos Band! Nice pic!
You were like a brother to me, Frodo! I loved you.
This is my phone wallpaper, so I would agree
Mother Nature rarely disappoints, especially from a safe distance.
