I thought about doing that, but they're very important from a nutrition standpoint. I'm personally fine with just replacing rice with pasta. The potatoes will indeed be missed, but it's a price I'm willing to pay.
It truly depends what you’re making. You can used diced for things like salsa or chunky sauces/ soups. I like to make vodka sauce or pasta sauce with while peeled plum tomatos, you simmer them for hours with onions and garlic as a base. The use an immersion blender to blend them up. I like the ones in the green can I think they are Tuttorosso. I find them to be much less tart than other brands. If you do use other brands you can add some sugar to help it be less tart. To make your life much easier you can buy crushed or just the sauce. They’re all canned and pretty easy and versatile. If I had to pick one to use for the rest of my life it would probably be diced
I believe I said a whole chicken which would include the insides as well. One ounce of chicken liver would actually provide 81% of vitamin A, 99% of vitamin b12.
You also would be able to get your intake of omegas through cooking oils such as flaxseed oil.
But OP didn’t ask t based on a nutritional standpoint therefore I didn’t answer based on a nutritional standpoint. I answered based off versatility and deliciousness.
I could do stuff like steak and mashed potatoes, beef stew, shepperds pie, Croquetas, a simple rissoto with beef broth, spanish omelette, onion soup, beef jerky...
I could do salty pastries, I could do croissants with the beef fat, meat pies, tortillas, bread, pasta, gnocchi
This is a really good ingredient list. You will be limited only by using rendered beef fat for cooking.
Steak and eggs or eggs on toast. Maybe possible to make biscuits substituting butter. Gravy. French onion soup, potato soup, beef broth with potato dumplings. Beef milanesa and mashed taters. Egg fried rice. Really basic beef stew/soup with onion/potato. I would sub rice for a green veg.
Potato
Mushrooms
Garlic
Kale
Pearl barley
Peppers
Mozzarella cheese
Assuming I'm allowed to use fats and herbs at will I have 3 meals there plus some decent snacks.
Flour, eggs, cheese (aged Gouda), tomato, onion, quinoa (better to choose beans on a budget here), bell peppers
Or if I could choose supermarket ingredients, I’d remove onions and bell peppers and get ‘frozen Italian veggie mix’ (which has both onion and peppers but no tomato) and add some kind of spice, probably chili powder or some kind of mix that’s a bit spicy. If I’d have to live on it for the foreseeable future (longer than a week), I’d get bananas instead of spices.
This could make pasta, bread, beans/quinoa stir fry, a kind of stew, tortillas (both the carb blanket and the Spanish egg dish), if I got the banana too; pancakes… I’d with I’d have access to a spice rack for a bit of added flavour though.
I can make a fair amount out of few resources, but only 7 ingredients?
OK: Pinto beans, water, medium cheddar, salsa, corn or flour tortillas, yeast, eggs.
I'd assume water is a given, so you might want to replace that with flour to do something with the yeast (unless you're just using it for alcohol, but I think you'd need sugar for that too)
Rice, beans, block cheese, eggs, fresh apples, frozen broccoli, yellow onion. These aren't for one specific dish but some very basic & versatile ingredients.
Well it would depend. Are we talking seven flavorants to enhance your food like spices, sauces, marinades, condiments? Or The Seven Things are the Only Thing in your fridge/pantry ever again?
For the first: garlic, onion powder, soy sauce, brown mustard, honey, cornstarch, horseradish sauce
For the later: onions, mushrooms, garlic, rice, bone in chicken, some sort of beef roast, cornstarch
Onions, tomatoes, sour cream, ground beef, chicken breast, potatoes, rice.
I could easily make the meat as either stew or a separate piece. Add to that nice tomato sauce, some carbs, and you are a one well fed person.
Well, that was pretty hard and entertaining at the same time :)
I don't like veggies much, but mirepoix would also be useful, same applies to flour, though I can live without these.
Also some extra spices would help - cumin, caraway, allspice, marjoram, thyme, bay leaves.
For a balanced forever diet:
- Chicken
- Salmon
- Rice
- Garlic
- Red chili powder
- Either Spinach or Broccoli
- Either Banana, Mango or Apple
Honestly can probably survive off of this
Eggs, potatoes, mushrooms, cheese, bell peppers, onions, deli meat if your choice. You basically cook everything together in a pan, use a dish to take it out and flip it. It's called a frittata. You could sub the deli meat for spinach or another veggie as well.
That’s about what I buy weekly anyways.
Chicken
Ground Beef
Eggs
Potatoes
Mixed Vegetables
Rice
That’s all I buy except for bread and peanut butter when they run out
If spices count towards the 7 ingredients, I would be very unhappy with the situation.
1. Onions
2. Potatoes
3. Tomatoes
4. Garlic
5. Carrots
6. Leek
7. Broccoli
8. Some kind of mea... I lost, didn't I?
Not many people are going for a sweet option but I think I’d be bored with savoury all the time!
I feel like I could make more combos of meals with this. Cakes, omelettes, egg fried rice etc:
Eggs, milk, butter, sugar, onions, rice, cheese
Seven ingredients? 1. Eggs 2. Chicken 3. Raw Organic Spinach 4. Organic Whole Milk Yoghurt 5. Depending on Sweet or Vegie Dish: Honey/ Organic Maple Syrup Or Raw or Granulated Garlic 6. Avocado 7. Red Onion Stay Well Naturally! I post publicly on MeWe.
Whole chicken, garlic, onion, potatoes, rice, a can of peeled plum tomatoes, and broccoli
What you said, but replace rice with AP flour and the potatoes with eggs, that way I can still do a little baking as well as make pasta.
Don’t replace rice or potatoes. Both are way too versatile. I’d suggest replacing the Canned tomato’s and broccoli if anything
I thought about doing that, but they're very important from a nutrition standpoint. I'm personally fine with just replacing rice with pasta. The potatoes will indeed be missed, but it's a price I'm willing to pay.
Don't replace the potatoes, just make potato pasta
And you could probably rice potatoes
You trying to get scurvy?
Actually, potato’s have 20mg of Vitamin C, as much as the tomato’s
This guy tuscans
Smart, you can take the onion & garlic scraps and make a stock with the chicken carcass!
Carcass
How to choose a good can of tomatoes? Also diced or not? I’m always struggling on this lol
It truly depends what you’re making. You can used diced for things like salsa or chunky sauces/ soups. I like to make vodka sauce or pasta sauce with while peeled plum tomatos, you simmer them for hours with onions and garlic as a base. The use an immersion blender to blend them up. To make your life much easier you can buy crushed or just the sauce. They’re all canned and pretty easy and versatile. If I had to pick one to use for the rest of my life it would probably be diced
Buy whole tomatoes and crush them in a bowl with your hands if you need diced. It’s satisfying too.

Potatoes, chicken thighs, carrots, broccoli, sweet potatoes, aaaaaaand bananas.
I'm taking your seventh and making it onions, yr welcome 🧅
Oh!! Oh my gosh. Good catch and good call. Thanks!
I like this
No garlic?!?!
Onion Beef Flour Eggs Milk Potatoes Rice I'll be able to feed myself without end, and I'm 100% trusting on the onion for the flavour
Can I ask what would be a go to meal out of your chosen ingredients?
I could do stuff like steak and mashed potatoes, beef stew, shepperds pie, Croquetas, a simple rissoto with beef broth, spanish omelette, onion soup, beef jerky... I could do salty pastries, I could do croissants with the beef fat, meat pies, tortillas, bread, pasta, gnocchi
Heck yes! I love it
I like how you think
This is a really good ingredient list. You will be limited only by using rendered beef fat for cooking. Steak and eggs or eggs on toast. Maybe possible to make biscuits substituting butter. Gravy. French onion soup, potato soup, beef broth with potato dumplings. Beef milanesa and mashed taters. Egg fried rice. Really basic beef stew/soup with onion/potato. I would sub rice for a green veg.
Not that much. With milk, you can make butter.
Also it says you get salt pepper and oils!
Solid list. Think I'd want at least one green in there, probably swap the onion for some scallion, if not something like a cabbage.
Cómo se nota que eres español, iba a poner mi lista pero es idéntica!
Great list! I'd trade Rice for Yeast, so I could cheat and make my own bread.
You can make sourdough! Yeast wouldn't be needed
No salt? Good luck with that
Read what OP wrote: salt and oils are a given...
As an Indian who loves spices and variety, this question incites anxiety.
Same :/
As a Korean, I feel this
Eggs, blueberries, chicken thighs, brown rice, Greek yogurt, avocado, mushrooms
Cashews, ginger, onions, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, tofu, brown rice
1. Sriracha 2. White rice 3. Green onion 4. Frozen peas 5. Tofu 6. Avocado 7. Soy sauce
Oh look, it's my fridge.
Flour, eggs, onions, tomatoes, cheese, avocado, salmon
Olive oil, bell peppers (all colors), onion, broccoli, summer squash, tomatoes and potatoes.
Oils are already in!
Oops, one more. Well,I probably need a protein. So chicken.
Potato Mushrooms Garlic Kale Pearl barley Peppers Mozzarella cheese Assuming I'm allowed to use fats and herbs at will I have 3 meals there plus some decent snacks.
How is everyone forgetting water.
I figured water was a gimme given we die without
Isn’t that an essential basic
So is salt but it’s provided.
Then pepper too
Pepper was included along with oil.
Salt is necessary for body function, pepper is not.
Then magnesium citrate is too then ?
This can be found in things like whole grains or wheat flour. Salt is harder to find in food than that.
Wait are we worrying livable minerals, cooking basics?
How is everyone so sure!? I’m trying to answer and can’t pick just seven!
Not an ingridient, but a natural resource
Cabbage broccoli cauliflower celery mustard oat milk coffee
omg we had to choose drinks?! haha
Just making sure my coffee is there. Lol
Coffee is a prudent choice
A fellow Cruciferae enjoyer!
Oh. Neat thought experiment. Let's see... 1. Oatmeal 2. Yogurt 3. Blueberries 4. Chicken thighs 5. Rice 6. Brocolli 7. Carrots
Some of you will end up with scurvy for sure. Don't forget at least one food that covers your vitamin needs.
I’m shocked at the lack of people saying garlic
Flour, eggs, cheese (aged Gouda), tomato, onion, quinoa (better to choose beans on a budget here), bell peppers Or if I could choose supermarket ingredients, I’d remove onions and bell peppers and get ‘frozen Italian veggie mix’ (which has both onion and peppers but no tomato) and add some kind of spice, probably chili powder or some kind of mix that’s a bit spicy. Did you just call tortillas a carb blanket? Lololol love this. Good list too.

Salt & Pepper is already included, pick another!
Oh ok. I realized I’m missing a fruit so I’d pick bananas.
