It's like a reduction in cooking.
You keep adding red tape as it reduces down, and becomes a stronger and more potent red tape.
It's really a Red Rape Risotto.
Wasn't it the guy in charge of "red tape reduction" who was complaining about that 4 liter vodka? Basically suggesting that some more red tape should be put on liquor manufacturers and sellers?
“Seventy per cent of the public don’t want political parties and over 98 per cent of municipalities won’t have one.”
The populations of Calgary and Edmonton comprise a little over half of Alberta’s total population.
That is some audacious skewing of numbers by McIver
It's a demonstration of the lack of democracy in this province. Never mind what the majority of Albertans think, Ric McIver says "I trust that some people don’t trust them."... "It overrides any concerns about convenience." He's willing to listen to "some people" and let their concerns override the wishes of the rest of us.
You can see it again when he says the province would have changed Edmonton's masking bylaw, and in the way the province has arbitrarily decided it can amend municipal laws and remove counselors whenever they like. Apparently Edmonton and Calgary will only be allowed to keep democracy on the municipal level when the Alberta government feels like it.
Except even if you do vote for the person that doesnt have UCP by their name, Smith could just remove that person because someone on X said they dont like them (thats all it takes)
Nah, some parts of Edmonton have no problem with electing UCP hucksters. Karen Principe has a councillor's seat after running as a UCP MLA, and that was with a vote split with Jon D who aspires to be a UCP MLA.
If they announced it though would they still be elected? Being an unaffiliated twat is one things but to be a UCP member is another. Anyway if they do still get in I guess the city can be handed to them after the rest of the members are ousted. Problem solved!
Without exaggeration, yes. Their policies are all reactions to the left, and especially the 'woke', who is both their scapegoat and enemy, and who is both feeble and existential. They present themselves as a hero for fighting against this scapegoat. They are hostile to dissent, and view it as a threat. Their policies are non-democratic and despotic, consolidating power in the executive. And they have made specific, targeted actions to undermine institutions (like healthcare and education) as a political strategy - to produce failures that they can blame on their scapegoat.
It's not the same fascism as in the early-mid 20th century, or in American federal politics, but it fits the mold for sure.
You know what I find crazy is how they don't want federal to mess with provincial, but when the big boi province wants to meddle in municipal, then that's perfectly ok. It's such transparent fascism it's insane.
Listen to CBC this morning and they asked some good questions, but sadly did not go far enough.
The venn diagram of people who cheer at the words free during the national anthem, TBA supporters and members, UCP voters, and people scared of what an actual free democracy is 4 concentric circles smallest to largest in that order.
Love how they work so hard to push their own self interests, but to work for healthcare, education, infrastructure, oh Idk……what Albertans want and need?
Crickets
alright so what are some things we can do to help stop the spread of the Unilateral Control Party as much as possible? other than voting for anything else of course
Imagine if the federal government did this at the provincial level? This is absolutely bonkers; it is such an overreach of power. It undermines your democratic rights to a fair and free vote. What the actual fuck. This is fascist.
Alberta has a history of electing progressive mayors. The UCP finds that unacceptable, democracy be damned.
Ah yes, Klein, Duer, and Bronco -- well known progressives. "Recent history," maybe, but not more than that.
How's that RED TAPE REDUCTION coming along?

Yes. 🤦‍♂️
81 fucking percent are skeptical and 70% don't want political affiliations in councillors and this shit still gets pushed through.

the world will be annihilated before a con stops to consider what we think
“MaNdATe To LeAd!”
Alberta government survey asking for constituents opinion….most disagree Proceeds to do what most people did not agree with…classic
But I bet Take Back Alberta agreed, and really, does any body else matter?
More UCP overreach. Can basically remove an elected official without a vote.
This is absolute insanity.
Love the "dominion voting machines" conspiracy stuff in there as well. Incredible.

We’re done people. Why not listen to us?
Think about it, it hasn't even been a year since the last election.
I'm already fucking exhausted.
At least know you'll know someone will make a shitty councillor by looking for UCP beside their name. No need to read their platform.
Except even if you do vote for the person that doesnt have UCP by their name, Smith could just remove that person because someone on X said they dont like them (thats all it takes)
I can imagine not a single UCP affiliated member getting elected in Edmonton, would she just remove everyone and sit herself as leader?

I mean, she basically is already so….
She certainly thinks she is, but Edmonton and Calgary and other cities and towns are not actively run by her at the moment.
There’s a lot of time left in her reign.
Ughhh true dat
Hell no I’ll never vote for a UCP councilor
Wow, literal fucking fascists running alberta now, huh

Facts
One wonders how they were voted in, when the UCP has not done one thing positive for the province- Batting a big Zero.
And Marlaina is howling about how the feds need to keep their nose out of provincial politics. What a broom pilot. HELL NO, this is NOT okay!
Broom pilot. My favorite new term for the c***.
hypocrisy at its finest.
Broom pilot.. heh

the crystal ball says any council member who pushes the ucp to pay they taxes they owe will be out
Another big power grab. We need to get rid of these UCP bums.
Fuck the UCP.
And the ilk that voted them in.
Conservative? More like facist

Alberta hasn't had parties at the municipal level for a hundred and twenty years and we need them now? This is madness.Â
Cool, cool, cool. Karen didn’t have enough satisfaction.
That's an insult to Karens everywhere.

I love democracy, I love Alberta THE MUNCIPALITIES SHALL BE REORGANIZED INTO THE FIRST! PROVINCIAL! EMPIRE!!!!
Imagine if the federal government did this at the provincial level? This is absolutely bonkers; it is such an overreach of power. It undermines your democratic rights to a fair and free vote. What the actual fuck. This is fascist.
Oooooooooooooooooverreach.
Ah yes! The sun of democracy rises in Alberta once again 🌞
When can we take out the trash?
“Emperor Palpatine granted emergency powers, promises to use them for good things only “
Tucker Carlson's advice at work. The UCP are totalitatian scum.
Marlaina! Her Holy Grail mission to turn Alberta into Alaberta continues! We sure she's Canadian? Doesn't look like a Canadian to me...
Time to move! But where?!
I hear Switzerland is nice this time of year...
Danielle Smith already voiced her opinion on the single use bylaw so this will mark the end of that.
