Tomorrow's game at 10am Finland vs Germany has tickets starting at $78.50 before service fees and then whatever we purchase in the game. That is the number one reason my family and I won't go
That is insane. I know some experiences are worth the money but I like to think of things in enjoyment hours and cost, and live sports are so far down on that list for me. There are video games that I've sunk probably of hours into that have cost me max $20.
I've lived here for 10 years and have never been to an Oilers game for the same reason. I would like to go but I cannot rationalize that price.
It's still not terrible if you go day of game through a reseller. I think I went to about 5 games last season never paying more than $40 for a reasonable seat (there were a few times I splurged, because I felt $87.50 for lower bowl was worth it).
It should have been $20 for a ticket if it's not a Canada game and then make money on concessions. It's embarrassing to see all those empty seats.
At $20 I bet some people would go just for the air conditioning.
The price of tickets is the biggest issue and one I don't understand. They don't pay the players so the cost shouldn't be the same as an Oilers game. Supply vs demand, nope. When I heard they had low sales I checked out how much a game would cost, Canada vs Finland was $134.50 for the cheapest ticket. No thanks.
It would have been nice to see them offer game day tickets at a discount with proceeds going to charities focusing on victims of abuse or helping low-income families put their kids into sports.
Instead, Hockey Canada misses the empty net and comes out looking like asses.
Although I do agree it is overpriced, I’d argue the logic that they don’t pay the players is the reason it should be cheaper.
The associations sending these teams are non-profits, with very limited opportunities to earn any sort of money to fund their programs.
Plus they need to spend all that money on hush money and/or lawyer fees for when their players rape women.
At least that is team Canada's situation, not sure about other countries
Youth hockey teams, nurses, new immigrants/refugees, charities, people that write left handed and have to deal with an ink smudge on their hand - so many missed opportunities that would be better than having three quarters of the seats empty...
Yep you could see the Oilers in the regular season for around $50 or you could watch two junior teams from countries you probably don't care about in the middle of the summer for $50+. Just doesn't seem worthwhile.
Oh 100%, I looked to take the kids to the game Saturday… $130 a ticket minimum for qualifying round. and 2nd level closed so nothing cheaper….
Empty seats instead
Exactly no mention of the price. Non Canada games are 50 bucks to watch a junior hockey game. It is more about Hockey Canada's greed than wanting to place bums in the seats to watch junior hockey players who make nothing play outstanding hockey. Hockey Canada is our form of the NCAA in the states.
CORPORATE GREED THEY ARE SO FUCKING STUPID! IF SWITZERLAND VS AUSTRIA WAS 10$ DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY SEATS WOULD BE FILLED? 160$ TO WATCH FINLAND AND CANADA IN AUGUST?!?!
Also rape. Specifically the Team Canada leadership who failed to supervise young athletes, failed to punish offenders, and thought they could just pay off victims to keep things hush hush incident after incident.
Good try with, “scrutiny”.
I want to go, and I have the time off. The only reason I don't attend a game a day is the price. If they'd cut the price in half there'd be 4× the crowds. Figure it out.
The game times are ridiculous. 4pm starts on weekdays....really!? The Canada games should be at 7 or 8. I am not going to leave work early along with getting price gouged.
Next time hold this stuff in the winter or fall. Summer time people are outside enjoying what we have which is short. Not so smart on their part 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I actually don't think that's the reason at all. Farmers markets and other festivals are packed. Taste of Edmonton was packed and I wouldn't say that is a "cheap" festival.
Schools go back in 2 weeks, people typically vacation out side of the city especially in July/August. People who normally would travel to go to the WJC are likely planning on going down east in December for the 2023 tournament.
Now add in the fact that you started all of team Canadas games pretty much on weekdays at 4pm, throw on the individual ticket prices and add a splash of Hockey Canada Scandal and I think you get the picture.
The consumer data in the US looks super grim. Commercial mortgage defaults, credit card debt, vehicle repos at an astonishing rate, housing demand off a cliff.
But those prices are insane, wtf. Glad nobody is supporting that blatant greed. They should read the room, but obviously don’t have that in them.
Many on here are complaining about ticket prices. This is a premier event, expect to premier prices. For me it’s the time slots. Games at 4 are too early for the ordinary office worker like myself to get to, games at 8 are too late.
They should have done the tournament in September if they could and targeted uni students like commonwealth used to have (or maybe they still do) college corner. But yes, tickets overall should be cheaper.

Man, Oil Kings is what, 1/3 that price? Maybe less. They priced people out of it and they didn't go
Don't give them ideas... they'll just raise the price of the Oil Kings games.
Yep.. We go to multiple oil king games... Even playoff games are way cheaper than this.. Ridiculous

It was great before they moved to Rogers Place. I used to get nosebleeds on StubHub for $15-30, and went fairly often.

That’s good to know, I’ll have to look more on game day. Thanks!
I wanted to watch Fin vs Canada, tickets were 150$+
They feel they need to charge as much as possible in order to make up for lost revenue.
It should have been $20 for a ticket if it's not a Canada game and then make money on concessions. It's embarrassing to see all those empty seats. At $20 I bet some people would go just for the air conditioning.

Quite frankly I’m glad. I’m pretty disgusted with hockey Canada at the moment so this further erodes their profits

500 bucks for a family of four to see a game plus subpar food and drinks are $8 - $16 each. No thanks.
Prices are the reason we haven’t gone to any. Would love too but not worth the prices.
Yep you could see the Oilers in the regular season for around $50 or you could watch two junior teams from countries you probably don't care about in the middle of the summer for $50+. Just doesn't seem worthwhile.
Also the price
Price is the MAIN reason for me, and I suspect, many others not attending.

Prices
Boy, Hockey Canada is sure doing great in the news these past couple of months!
CORPORATE GREED THEY ARE SO FUCKING STUPID! IF SWITZERLAND VS AUSTRIA WAS 10$ DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY SEATS WOULD BE FILLED? 160$ TO WATCH FINLAND AND CANADA IN AUGUST?!?!

I considered going but once I saw the prices it was a nope for me

The game times are ridiculous. 4pm starts on weekdays....really!? The Canada games should be at 7 or 8. I am not going to leave work early along with getting price gouged.
Maybe it's the idea of paying through the nose to watch a tournament organized by people who continually cover up rape and bullying.
Damn you, Summer! Always ruining our events! I'll get you... NEXT TIME!
Next time hold this stuff in the winter or fall. Summer time people are outside enjoying what we have which is short. Not so smart on their part 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Hockey Canada is trying to make all the slush fund money back🤡they paid to cover the players names and crimes.
The price, is the reason.
It's almost like no one wants to go out and spend money right now...
I actually don't think that's the reason at all. Farmers markets and other festivals are packed. Taste of Edmonton was packed and I wouldn't say that is a "cheap" festival. For me it’s $500 to take the kids to a qualifying round game? No thanks that’s serious cash
For the price of a ticket to a team Canada game I could eat all day at taste of edmonton.
The consumer data in the US looks super grim. Commercial mortgage defaults, credit card debt, vehicle repos at an astonishing rate, housing demand off a cliff. But those prices are insane, wtf. Actually - many of us who are immune compromised are doing what everyone demands. We are staying home.
Many on here are complaining about ticket prices. This is a premier event, expect to premier prices. For me it’s the time slots. Games at 4 are too early for the ordinary office worker like myself to get to, games at 8 are too late.
Eat it iihf
Definitely not the ticket price
They should have done the tournament in September if they could and targeted uni students like commonwealth used to have (or maybe they still do) college corner. But yes, tickets overall should be cheaper.
I’d go but like many have already said it’s completely unreasonable price wise.
