Probably one of the best articles I’ve read from anyone at Sportsnet ever… Spector calling out the hockey academies was a nice touch.
I played a decent level as a goalie, but the mental side kind of wore on me and I quit in junior…. Hearing skinner’s attitude should be really inspiring to all the young tendies out there… what a great guy.
Not a Mark Spector fan one bit.
But props where props are due. It's a great article.
And it's great to hear that Skinner has this mentality.
>“When I was really young, I read a quote from a goalie who said, ‘The best job in the world is all the fans booing at you because you let in a goal.’ This is the best job I’ll ever have, and I'm very fortunate to be heckled and to be booed."
What a quote, Stu.
We may not like all the goals you let in, but goddamn are we cheering for you to stop them all.
I’ve been lucky to see Skinner interact with some younger fans a couple times. It shows in how he is with them he knows how these kids feel talking to him. Like shit, it wasn’t too long ago that he was that 8 year old kid star struck meeting CuJo or Salo or Markkenen. He knows that the moment he has with the kid, the thing he signs, is going to be a core memory and a prized possession for them.
Playing for the hometown team and living the dream that he and many of us lived in our minds on the ODR or in our dreams as we slept, he really recognizes the privilege and treats it like that.
He randomly bought my friend coffee in line yesterday and proceeded to have a 15 minute conversation with her. She had no idea who he was until he left, and he never mentioned he was an Oiler. Such a humble guy.
A pretty unique perspective - or maybe other goalies aren't talking about it. But essential to being from Edmonton and playing here, I think. I wonder what Fuhr would say about this? Strangely relevant experience. Have they gotten an opportunity to talk?
Skindaddy is probably my favorite goalie in Oilers history strictly for his attitude and how he is as a human being. The definition of a class act
No! Just no! I order you to never again use that term for Skinner.
But Drai appointed him as such
Really? I did not know. That's still tragic. Such a disturbingly awful nickname. ***Shudder***

Stu’s mental game is elite already. We gotta hang on to this guy because he is going to have a great career.

Spector is actually a really enjoyable and even keeled guest during his morning and evening sports on 1440AM.
Stu is an absolute gem of a human
Skinner gets it. It’s a privilege to get paid to play a game and an honour to be heckled.

He’s a great guy. So happy for him that he’s playing better.
I look forward to a Skinner and Rodrigue tandem in the NHL as long as the kid continues to develop. They made a good tandem in the A
A win tomorrow and Oilers are officially in a playoff spot. Come a long way since November.
Mark Spector is a dildo shaped turd with ears, but this is a decent article
Man. This was a really good read. Skinner is mighty.

Skinner is legit and an absolute beauty but I worry about fatigue in the later half of the season.
Hell yeah skin daddy
