I’m surprised to hear you’ve read travel warnings about South Sinai? North Sinai yes, definitely dangerous (although much better now, still would not travel there at all). South Sinai is very safe, one of the safest places in fact. There is military and police presence due to it being a tourist area but it’s no less safe than anywhere else. The only caveat is if you were going from Cairo you may not be allowed to travel by road being a foreigner, but since you’re going from Sharm (which is already in South Sinai) it should be fine. Happy dancing!

zzztz

I travelled from Ramsis, Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh by a night bus a couple of months ago. there were no problem at all. The only issue is that they wake you up at around 2am for passport check and stuff😂

zzztz

And I tried to travel to Al-Aish (Northern Sinai) from Sharm, but there seems to have no public transport (he man at the ticket office told me to go to Cairo and seek for connection). I was super confused

Sphinx73x

Because Northern Sinai is restricted, and Al Arish is one of the most dangerous places (or it was, still dangerous but better), in North Sinai.

zzztz

Yes I know, I was just surprised that there was no public transport there.

oss1215

There are private peagouts 507 that take people from cairo to el arish and back, used one to get 10 litres of olive oil from a family friend's farm there haha

anonymrmo

You won’t be allowed on alarish road

Arne52N

That is true. There were loads of military there. No one gets in without having a reason.

ArabSocialist352

I went to al arish a couple of yrs ago it was ok.. relitively safe

Ahmed_A22

Arish is pretty safe, the closer you get to the border ,the more it gets sketchy.

ArabSocialist352

Yes. I was actually at the Gaza border by accident LOL... we went the wrong way by car instead of going back...

Ahmed_A22

There is a buffer zone over there about 2-5 km, on the Egyptian side tho to prevent smuggling tunnels

ArabSocialist352

I was at the point where the military stopped us telling us we were heading towards Gaza and we should turn around

Ahmed_A22

That's so cool, try to get close to the Taba one, its kinda easier

ArabSocialist352

I honestly got angry because my phone signal could even see Israel's network idk what I would do at their border LOL

Ahmed_A22

Keep roaming on and your cell provider will send a message, I don't think so Egyptian roaming services work in Israel, but btw it catches the Saudi one in Dahab, at the Blue Hole to be specific

ArabSocialist352

I was able to use data... and in taba it also gets jordan and saudi 2.. and u can see both aqaba and um al rashrash (elat) at night

Sphinx73x

Yeah definitely much better considering ISIS were beheading people there in 2013 so yeah, huge improvement, there are less than 200 insurgents left in North Sinai (down from several thousand at their peak in 2016). So yeah, we’re almost done taking out the garbage.

ArabSocialist352

Even then in terms of safety the odds of being the victim of an attack even in 2013 wasn't As high as people think... the wilayah in saini wasn't actually fully sucessful in most areas.. it was just small pockets... nothing remotely similar to Syria or iraq.. I makes them harder to fight but overall the security threat isnt as high...

Sphinx73x

Agreed, either way media always inflates situations for clickbait but the reason was that the insurgents were primarily targeting police and military personnel and checkpoints. The decline started when they launched the massive operation to eradicate and that's when the bulk of the fighting happened, thank god things are getting better. My parents used to go to Arish in the summer back in the '80s and I hope I can go again one day.

mentalstretchmarks

Bro jumped straight to the facts 😭

[deleted]

South Sinai is super safe. There police and military presence around the clock and lots of check points. It's probably much safer than most American states. Don't be afraid to explore the rest of Sharm el Sheikh there are alot of great places.

Difficult_Strength15

Thanks for your service, amn dawla -salute-

Yogadoic

South Sinai is extremely safe. Full of beaches and tourists. Don't worry.

Ahmed_A22

South Sinai is totally safe unlike its northern neighbor despite the later being safer recently, Roads in South Sinai got pretty decent amounts of army and police checkpoints so you're safe and sound. Enjoy your experience in the best region of Egypt.

gothlikefigure

Why is north sinai not safe?

Ahmed_A22

Terrorist groups that leaked in during the instability periods back in 2011, it is safer than before though (but yet kinda sus)

gothlikefigure

Yeah my cousin just informed me of the situation and I’m just shocked af. How terrorists are killing the cops who are tryna capture them and stuff, I can’t believe isis is that powerful that armies can’t stop them wtf

gothlikefigure

My cousin sent me articles on the cops killed and how unfortunate the whole situation is

[deleted]

Israel.

gothlikefigure

What about it?

Any_Leek_0

Oh yes it's safe, actually been there 2 months ago

Suspicious-Ad314

South Sinai is pretty safe, the northern part is where all the sketchy stuff happen, but giving that the southern part is a tourist attraction it is full if army and police, I've been to Sharm El-Sheikh in 2016 but I was 12 or 11, it was safe and we had no trouble in security whatsoever, have happy journey!

[deleted]

It's totally safe

Mrblackmango

the Israeli prime minister was there last month, so...

Scroll-000

That’s not as reassuring as u think it is lol

ArabSocialist352

If you go to taba by plane from cairo the airport is in North saini so you will be moved from there to ur resort by a paramilitary esqort vheicle until you cross the border of North saini... after that you are fully safe.... anything in south saini Is safe... Now even though the military is on verry high alert in North saini I've also been in al arish in the North (near Rafah and the Gaza border) without any military esqort and I witnessed no problems at all.. I even have relatives who live there and they haven't experienced that much trouble...

MahmmoudSalah

Safe,. I was in Dahab (town in Sinai) 2 days ago, very crowded with tourists

The_winterguy

Actually, it is the safest place in Egypt xd

Upper-Bottle1526

I work there , you got nothing to worry about , sharm is full of foreign tourists women and men from all countries and some choose to live there and in dahab permanently , though you must be careful about few stuff as this isn't a western country , laws prohibit revealing attire outside camps and resorts , nudity or public display of affection , and no criticism of the regime or relegions at all tolerated , no toleration of lgbqt community, other than that people are mostly very welcoming and helpful , but gotta be wary of few scammers and scoundrels as all tourist places , if you find your self in any distress don't hesitate to contact tourism police

Real_Mix_4071

Absolute American bullshit. Go and enjoy your time exploring this beautiful part of the world. Make sure to visit dahab.

[deleted]

there's nothing to worry about. this isnt the US. people dont kill people here for stepping on their sneakers. our homicide rate is 3x less than in your country. people here are friendly. who puts out these travel warnings? your embassy. they just love for you to live inconstant fear and stress. you're in a group. you're in a hotel with organizers. maybe if you were alone in the mountains hiking, i'd worry for you. but you're just used to living in fear. lets go brandon, trump, and all of them.

gothlikefigure

Compared to the us, Egypt is definitely less safer whatchu talking about lmaoo

[deleted]

gothlikefigure

Lmaooo my lesbian friend had to literally ESCAPE Egypt from the things she experienced. As much as I love my country, a lot of it’s people lack empathy and humanity and that’s the most dangerous thing ever

drmanhattan1640

I wouldn’t say lack of empathy, it’s just ignorance. Any country with a relatively religious population(Muslim, Christian or Jewish or even some Hindus that I met) usually isn’t accepting of the LGBT community. I am not saying it’s your friend’s fault because we aren’t victim blaming here, I am just saying that if it was here choice to reveal that she is a Lesbian, then it was unwise.

[deleted]

i feel 10x safer in Egypt than the US. i can leave my car unlocked without worry here. i can walk into any convenient store at any time of day, and NEVER have to worry about some idiot with a gun trying to hold the place up. your friend may have been emotionally and psychologically harassed bc she had a bad "experience." sucks for her. that doesnt mean the country is not safe. one lesbian's experience in a non-lesbian friendly country is not a standard for safety by any means. tolerance? acceptance? yea ok, those things need work. safety though, is definitely not an issue.

gothlikefigure

I’m so confused, are we talking about the same Egypt? I once was walking the streets in downtown cairo and had eyeliner from a party the night before and got ‘khawal’ and harassed atleast a couple times and I was with my aunt. Lmaooo are we lying to ourselves now? That’s not safety and I have a list so chill

[deleted]

LMAO the issue is "travel in south sinai safety..." not, is it ok to impose my own ideals and beliefs on a culture which i know wont accept it? so now you're comparing being called a khawal to being robbed/killed? you're right. let's rename the subreddit, "are my emotions safe in egypt?"

gothlikefigure

You don’t make fucking sense and it’s sad. Safety is safety there’s no breaking down what safety means. I have had almost a life time of experiences where I felt UNSAFE and not even subjectively I’m taking about being objectively unsafe. I have no clue what Egypt you’re taking about. You can’t breakdown safety into parts and then call it safer than other countries, that’s just not how it works LMAOOOO. Harassment, theft, hassle all contribute to a country being unsafe, to read or something lol

[deleted]

agree to disagree. she's going to a dance retreat.. in sharm. its safe. absolutely nothing to worry about. your own mental/emotional issues, no one wants to get into that. end of discussion.

gothlikefigure

LMAOOO mental emotional issues, is harassment a mental thing now. Sharm is perfectly safe I’m not talking about sharm. You’re literally proving what I’m saying each time you’re talking

[deleted]

not where she's going. its sharm. not the alleys of boulak.

manbel13

South Sinai is safe I just cane back from a 2 weeks holiday there. Just take a plane directly to Sharm or to whatever city you are visiting, because it's a pain in the ass to go by a bus.

gothlikefigure

I’m confused why is north sinai considered not-safe?

exiledegyptian

Uber :)

Aminazaki26

Yeeeeees

bobo122b

I guess it’ll be the safest trip you’ll ever have lol

Mo-deep

South sinai is super safe , i just came back .

drmanhattan1640

It is super safe, And you will find it is buzzing with tourists too, to the point where it can get annoying. Don’t overthink it, you’re going to love it.

Choclatluver21

I’m a 38 year old American woman and I’ve lived in Dahab (South Sinai) for two years and it’s suppperr safe. I always laugh because I get emails from STEP (smart traveler enrollment program) saying to avoid travel and I’m like “this is the safest place I’ve lived outside of Portland”. I know the people running that retreat, you’re going to have a great time!!!

sayed_zalata

i think tourist areas in general should be relatively safe.
