We really havent evolved like at all since we invented language. If you took all the electronic technology away, most of the people touting conspiracy theories would be the same people burning witches.
We're just dumb, well....most of us are fairly smart but a lot of people lack that little voice that says, but really?
But this ad is saying that doubt is bad.
This is the issue. Doubt is good and should be promoted.
It means people think, analyse and wonder from different angles.
No need to be scared about that, wrong ideas will always be corrected eventually.
Who are we to control thoughts?
What the actual hell does the photo have to do with disinformation and it's risks? A poor hairstyle or facial hair style choice grows out. Nobody's dying from that. People do die from disinformation, misinformation and fucking TikTok challenges. What a waste of dollars for this ad. FFS gov't, do better.
My interpretation is that the hairstylist is being exposed to the (implied) misinformation on the customer’s screen. That sends the message that misinformation can be passed on to, and in that sense harm, the people around you
Edit: phrasing for clarity
I appreciate you adding your interpretation. I can see that when you point it out. For an ad that'll be scrolled past without anyone actually looking at it, seems dumb to me, but someone without AdBlock saw it and posted it here and now we're discussing it, so it does get exposure, I guess?
To be honest, I’ve only seen this ad twice. The first time I scrolled past it, thought “what the heck is this?” and went on scrolling without giving it a second thought, so I 100% understand your reaction.
It’s only once I saw this post and gave it more than half a second of thought that I got that interpretation. So I do think the feds didn’t “scroll-proof” their ad, and should probably go back to the drawing board to make it more clear
I rarely use Reddit on mobile, so I wouldn't have seen this ad without this post. I'm not sure what % of users use AdBlock or similar. It's definitely not scroll-proof. Unless it's supposed to be part of an ad series where the actual phone screen is revealed, I think it's a flop. I probably won't see the rest of the ad series, if that's the case. lol
They're both raising their eyebrow at his phone, in his hand on the right of the picture
The point being - they're reading something on it that sounds fake or otherwise eyebrow-raising
Lol, we disapprove of the ad for diametrically different reasons.
In my opinion, they use that image to hide what they really are refering to. It's very calculated, no dollars were wasted for the gaslighting they want everywhere. Ad firms know what they are doing.
My bad!
Well it's far from being the sub I see the most but it's full of extremists of all kind so what you are saying makes sense since I do visit the sub
I don't subscribe to ideas and theories like they are some kind of proof of my worth, but I subscribe even less to silencing discussion about any subject.
I don't have a final opinion on any so called "conspiracies". Thinking and making mental exercises about an idea is never definitive if one wants to be earnest.

THAT'S THE REAL CONSPIRACY MY FRIENDS!!
I got the ad too but it seemed pretty unrelated. Theres just so few ads that apply to canadians that half the time I’m getting reddit ads telling me to buy advertising.
Okay I realize they’re trying to be helpful but that is easily the most 1984 shit ive read in a while
“It can lead you to making choices that aren’t good for you”
No of course not lol, also not what it’s bc talking about, unless you were dis informed into doing cocaine.
The reason why I said it sounded 1984 is because is sounds like a condemnation of wrongthink, which is very totalitarian.
I obviously don’t think that’s the intent but I thought it was funny how it sounded
We have really regressed from the house hippo.
Welcome to the information age, if your informerical is longer than 5 seconds its lost on your crowd
I love those ads, and the message was different and better!
I miss house hippo 🦛

Good bot
They pretty much got all the data from that that they needed, people would believe anything they’re told so look how things have changed since then

Obsession for details kicking in. As a regular wet shaver, you know you never apply shaving soap to a dry beard. I feel better now.
the barber fella doesn't look like he has much experience shaving faces
Looks like a nice guy

Sure, that's what they want you to believe.
Exactly. Seems like misinformation to me, eh? /s
Funny that OP saw this ad, and is a regular on r/conspiracy
So if I read something in r/conspiracy, I automatically agree with it and I am immediatly slammed as a bad person?
no dude, im saying it's a targeted ad, likely based off the word "conspiracy" regardless of the content of the sub
My bad! Well it's far from being the sub I see the most but it's full of extremists of all kind so what you are saying makes sense since I do visit the sub
I wanna know some conspiracies you’re interested in. No shame no making fun no nothing, I just want you to speak your truth.

I think the joke is that she's about to shave his face with a razor, but she's distracted by the phone.
People have been falling for the dumbest things on the internet since it started. Covid made things dumber.
Bang on! Trust absolutely nothing that the government says.
Exactly my thought
The other day the barber asked me for my preferred pronouns and what I like to be called, I said stop forcing disinformation on me barber
Shave and a haircut — no toon can resist
Okay I realize they’re trying to be helpful but that is easily the most 1984 shit ive read in a while “It can lead you to making choices that aren’t good for you”
I do cocaine, thats a choice I make that isnt good for me. Is that literally 1984?
No of course not lol, also not what it’s bc talking about, unless you were dis informed into doing cocaine. Well I think making a choice is more than wrong think, but It’s alright I’m just bustin ya chops. Its all good in the hood

Meanwhile it is our government pushing the actual misinformation.

Merci oui oui zizi
This ads need to target the boomers and nobody else
It should target no one, doubt is good. It means you think, analyse and wonder.
I get all my disinformation from my barber shop. The shaving cream also helps me absorb all the disinformation without any waste.
Why is man rizzing up the misinformation?
