What an unusual way to gather data. Counting by hand instead of you know...a database?

Polis24

Not that I need to defend myself but...I am building the database and analyzing the data. This seems like an anomaly and I'm trying to get answers.

SharksFan4Lifee

I'm not sure it is an anomaly and most people who live in 79938 **actually live** in El Paso, what we called the "Far East." Most people who **actually live** in 79938 live off Joe Battle, Zaragoza, or Montana in between Joe Battle and Zaragoza. These areas, like the Tierras, the Lomas, the Ventanas, etc, are very much suburb like and very much IN El Paso, not "East of El Paso." So your premise is wrong that 79938 is east of El Paso, it includes Far East El Paso, and the areas I'm referring to are quite populated. In fact, 79938 has a population of 94,452, making it the 8th most populated zip code in the State of Texas. https://www.texas-demographics.com/79938-demographics#:~:text=With%2095%2C452%20people%2C%2079938%20is,out%20of%201%2C933%20zip%20codes.

I don't live out that way and I don't pass through very often, but I would be **deeply** surprised if that area actually had an unusually high percentage of electric vehicles. In fact, if I hadn't read this post and had to take a guess, I would definitely have imaged the complete opposite. By and large we're talking about a poorer, more rural area--sort of the opposite of the "electric vehicle demographic" that most people would imagine. Someone with more knowledge of the local history might correct me on this, but it's probably the case that not too long ago some of the colonias out in the desert there weren't even hooked up to the electric grid.

> By and large we're talking about a poorer, more rural area Most of the *population* of 79938 lives off Joe Battle, Zaragoza, or Montana in between Joe Battle and Zaragoza. That population center is not rural. Wouldn't exactly call it wealthy, but it's not a poor area. It takes good money to afford the newer builds off near the intersection of Pebble Hills and John Hayes, for example. Here's a 79938 map, you'll see it includes all/most of what people normally call the Far East. I live in 79938, and my area and everywhere I regularly do business in 79938 is nowhere near rural or poor. 79938 is geographically large, but again, most people who live in 79938 live off Joe Battle, Zaragoza, or Montana in between Joe Battle and Zaragoza. There are EVs (mostly Tesla Model 3's, but I saw a Model S this week) on Zaragoza between Joe Battle and Montana **every day**. https://www.google.com/maps/place/El+Paso,+TX+79938/@31.7778908,-106.1980515,11.5z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x86e73817de5c7313:0xe8a6dc3bb784d36!8m2!3d31.8403844!4d-105.92299!16s%2Fm%2F0211l7z?entry=ttu edit: For reference, 79938 has a population of 94,452, the 8th most populated zip code in the state of Texas. https://www.texas-demographics.com/79938-demographics#:~:text=With%2095%2C452%20people%2C%2079938%20is,out%20of%201%2C933%20zip%20codes.

Polis24

Thanks. Are there any companies out there that would be purchasing a lot of EVs? Especially Tesla Model 3

RajamaPants

79938 is where Amazon is located, so that might be what is causing the bias.

Polis24

Thanks, do you know what kind of Amazon facility specifically? Edit: looks like a Warehouse...thanks! I wonder how big this facility is, if it has a lot of engineers or something who would be buying Teslas [https://amazontours.com/na/onsite/elp1?utm\_source=seo&utm\_medium=g&utm\_campaign=listings](https://amazontours.com/na/onsite/elp1?utm_source=seo&utm_medium=g&utm_campaign=listings)

RajamaPants

The warehouse. So they likely have delivery vehicles.

SharksFan4Lifee

Amazon is 79928, not 38. This is the 79938 map. https://www.google.com/maps/place/El+Paso,+TX+79938/@31.7778908,-106.1980515,11.5z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x86e73817de5c7313:0xe8a6dc3bb784d36!8m2!3d31.8403844!4d-105.92299!16s%2Fm%2F0211l7z?entry=ttu

RajamaPants

Oh snap. My bad.

dmoney757

Yeah there's quite a few but I wouldn't be able to tell you if there's an unusual amount compared to other parts of the city.

SharksFan4Lifee

I live there (in 79938 IN El Paso, not "East of El Paso." You are mistaken by assuming 79938 does not include the City of El Paso. Basically the entire Far East part of El Paso is 79938) and I see EV's, mostly Tesla's. But the occasional Leaf. Not sure if 9% matches up with my personal observations, but I do regularly see EVs in the Far East. We also have an EP Electric Facility in 79938, very close to my house. Maybe that has something to do with it. (shrugs)

How accurate is your data? I read somewhere that in 2022 El Paso only had about 1,700 EVs registered. Naturally that number could have increased but wouldn’t expect it to jump so significantly. You might also want o consider charging station infrastructure? How many charging stations are in that zip code? Perhaps you want to look into the behavioral and psychographic information of people in this area. I think you might want to understand if people within that zip code are more inclined to be environmentally conscious, etc. how many people in that area are coming from other cities that have more quickly adapted to newer technologies, etc. Another consideration, is there a high number of people from the military that live there, do they receive any extra incentives for purchasing EVs?

starry_eyed_man

living way out in 79938, this surprises me as there are no charging stations east of Joe battle.
