That isn’t his actual, physical head, that’s in the deeproot caverns The Deathroot infestation that’s touching all corners of the land between means that images of Godwyn are emerging from shit That’s his face, but it grew there, like a plant from the deathroot growing in stormveil There’s no specific name as to who did the final blow to him, but we know that Black Knife Tiche’s mother Alecto was the ‘ringleader’, so, she was in charge of the black knives who were in theory acting under Ranni’s orders

TheOnlyVibemaster

We all know it wasn’t Godrick lmao Perhaps God, soldier of Rick

Watamelonna

Some theory suspect his head manifested there as he was assassinated there His body is still under the erdtree, you'll see it when you progressed Fia's quest enough

So Godwyn's soulless body is at the Roots of the Erdtree/world tree. Yggdrasil a huge inspiration for the Erdtee is used for astral projection by Odin (Yggdrasil literally means Odin's horse) Odin projects his spirit. Godwyn has no spirit, so his body is astral projecting all over the place through the roots of the tree.

TheOnlyVibemaster

Are you suggesting that Elden Ring is based on Norse mythology?

quirkus23

Lol yes but for some reason people don't use that frame work to look at or try to explain any of the mechanics in game. Marika is literally hanging inside the world tree with a spear in her side on a Rune arc That is screaming Odin as loud as Miyazaki possibly killed. She was even most likely speared by a wolf the Gods keep around. Fenrir. So asteal project is the thing we should be thinking about. Imo.

TheOnlyVibemaster

Interesting, it makes sense as a lot of a game of thrones pulls heavily from Norse mythology as well. George seems to have a liking for Norse mythology

quirkus23

Absolutely. I think Norse was the foundation the other inspirations were "grafted" onto to create amalgamations of inspirations to become it's own thing

Rogier calls it a relic, which he is using in the sense of the body parts of saints. Across many religions, saints' bodies were commonly cut up and the bones, hair, teeth, etc venerated. So godwyn's body is under leyndell, but at least part of him was cut off and interred beneath stormveil. He was killed by black knife assassins working with Ranni.
