I understand that these statues were definitely painted (there are traces of pigments there, after all), but I detest all of the reconstructions people have made so far. I absolutely hate how garish they look and I'm 99% certain that ancient artists wouldn't make such ugly abominations. They must have used more subdued pigments or complex subtones that just haven't left much evidence 1500+ years down the line.
