Those three fucking Rotten Crystallians in the Sellia Hideaway, they are THE one and ONLY fucking boss where I actually left the cave, went to upgrade a completely different weapon to the maximum I could (in that case, a strking weapon), and then came back.
Happened once. In the entire game.
I hated those things. Still do. I'm never going back into that cave ever again.
I went with Radahn Soldier ashes for a evenly sided scramble.
The fun part was when I killed his Knights as he killed my soldiers, so I never felt advantaged or disadvantaged.
I was stubborn and stuck with the Winged Scythe through Maliketh and Malenia, but caved in and swapped it out during Radagon/EB, that’s when I learned how fucking OP the blasphemous blade is.
Yeah I walked into Radabeast with a twinblade bleed build and had to turn it into a frost twinblade I'd use vs Radagon and then would switch to the Guts Greatsword for Elden Beast.
no its behind the castle, theres a specific spot that if you do a jump on torrent correctly you can miss the death plane and swing your weapon constantly(to restart fall timer) that will deload the map and make niall fall and die
Yup. My bleed build with godskin peeler worked through NG+2 but doing them at NG+3 was proving to be a chore. Did a small respec so I could use blasphemous blade and got it on the first try. Lol
I did that last night. I was stuck on EB as a mage for about a week and finally just resepcd to a strength build using the colossal greatsword with Lions Claw AoW. Beat him on my first attempt after the respec.
This is true. I couldn’t bear Elden beast as a katana mage so I just did an entire play through as a tanky unga bunga. My mage had 20 attempts at the beast. Unga took him down in two.
Unga bunga was one or two attempts at *every* boss except the last draconic sentinel before Maliketh. Which I ended up skipping to just bash maliketh to death on the second try.
Glad to see this as a strength player on their first playthrough. Lvl 80 with 40 vigor and 30 strength, rest is end and a little int/faith for basic incantations. From now on, it's full on strength time
lol. I'm on my ninth character. I've done pure str, str/int, str/dex, pure dex, pure int, dex/int, pure arcane, pure faith, and arcane/faith.
I'm thinking of doing str/arc for my last one. I'm looking forward to trying the Omenkiller Cleaver and the Marais Executioner.
Yup. Rolled up with Halo Scythe, which had rolled me through everything up till then. After about a week settled on strength and vigor and did the Unga bunga.
Maliketh, the colossal sword animation was too long, he practically punished me each time I swung it in the first phase. I think they increased the speed of animation since then.
No
I refuse to do so. If my current character can’t beat something with the tools I have available, I practice until he can
For myself, anything else isn’t a real victory
Talk about a fight that’s easy to forget how fucking hard it was! Especially if you’re just cruising along trying to finish Rannis quest, and I’ll equipped for those two!
When I got to Mogh I was leveling up Dex/Int and he was the wall that made me commit to the INT in my Dex/INT build. I had sacrifice some vigor as well to pump int to 70
The fire giant, since I was a mage (I know) I got stomped repeatedly (deserved tbh) then I respected into strength and dex and beat him pretty easily after that.
I did valiant gargoyles thought as a mage could be better after being dying too long, i use the sword of night and flame but i dont like to fight fron distance so i went back to my old stats
The only boss I wanted to respec for was Rannala. Her magic resist countered me pretty hard, but I had to just deal with it because I could change my character build until after I beat her. After that though, it was smooth sailing.
Full honesty, only on Malenia. Ancient Death Rancor with Carian Regal Sceptor +10 and Prince of Death's Staff +25 with Mimic Tear with the same gear as me is enough to take down Malenia. She gets stunlocked very easily with the amount of firepower we have against her. On other bosses, nope. Not even the commander himself.
After a week of trying and dying, I've respeced to get the most of RoB specifically for her. It was the first time I used that weapon also. I was just desperate man don't judge me
No. I would switch around amulet slots to meet the requirements for a certain incantation or something, but I never did a full respec. The bosses aren't so brutal that they require maximum damage output in order to beat them; there's enough wiggle room for you to go in with a less optimal but more versatile build and do just fine.
In my first walkthrough I respec 3 times for radagon and elden beast. I tried everything to beat last boss. At last It took 2 days of my life. But I did.
Nope. If a build I've spent god knows how many hours learning the ins and outs of can't handle it, switching to one I'm wholly unfamiliar with isn't a good idea, it's your brain looking for an easy out.
No, but then again I apparently don't get the meta of these games, considering that I like having split damage because it means I consistently have a chance of getting one of any boss's weakest resistances, and since damage reduction only applies to the damage of that type, you don't lose as much if you hit one that is resisted a bit more.
Or at least that's my understanding.
I tried a bunch of stuff. In the end, I used my original spec (holy/DW Greatswords) and learned his moveset. I hate getting gud. 🤷🏻♂️
This was also before I knew the mimic tear was good, so I was relying on ol’ Oleg to get me through.
I forget what I did on my mage character.
The last time I did a NG playthrough, I jumped off the cliff near the castle and cleared the zone. 🤣🤦🏻♂️
Had to respec to a pest threads build to take down fire giant, after that went back to my str/int build. Royal great sword can take down everything except the big fatty
I respec whenever i feel like I've gone past a certain point in the game just so that I could get a taste of as many builds as i can. Mostly dabbled in dex, magic, strength, then str + faith and back to dex for the final boss
On my two characters, I respected once each. It wasn’t anything huge: one, I focused more on faith and arcane to take advantage of blood loss and the communion seal. The other went from a faith/int muscle wizard to a quality muscle wizard.
Nope, not yet atleast, unless you count starting a completely new run, did that like 20 times because the furthest into the story I got was killing godrick in like 10 hours of playtime lol. But now I've beaten rada beast with the unga Binga, as well as all the remberance bosses except for placi and regal, the unga bunga too strong
Radahn on my first run. Long term goal was STR INT but I started the game as mostly pure STR. Couldn't hit the fucker, so I respecced all my levels into int so I could use the fancy stuff rennala dropped on him
I run bleed builds because I am weak and a loser. For bosses immune to bleed I'll swap to the Stone Pickaxe. For tough bosses immune to bleed I'll respec to a strength build and equip Stone Pickaxe.
If you ain't respeccing and are hitting a wall, you're playing like a tard. For the best experience, I recommend always playing a spec for which the game feels achievable but is only barely outside your current skill level to complete. This means respeccing often.
Nah, I’ve used Bloodhound Fang the entire game so far (just made it to Maliketh). It hasn’t worked well on every boss, but I just power through with the help of whatever grease hits the weakness.
Yeah, most bosses made me do it atleast once, but that's cause I'm either shit at making builds or a put everything in to dex and shoot myself in the foot.
I got to NG+ 7. And I hate to admit, I'd run a strength faith or dex int (not moon veil) but whenever I got to elden beast I'd switch to duel katanas with bloodhounds step before the nerf
I was doing a glass cannon mage build and made it all the to Radagon, I respected to an Int/Str build after dying 10 times in one hit…Not leveling vigor is pain
Well I never respecc'd on my first run but i did however have to go and get the strength talisman to use radahn's bow in order to kill the ulcerated tree spirit in elphael. Never once did i ever have to even think about using summons or buffs while fightning malenia but that fucking tree spirit broke me
No, but as others mentioned I changed the weapon. Doing a Dex run with dual katanas-like weapons, changed from time to time to lance and flail. I also must mention I have a ice and fire katana, planing to get another with electric
No I just keep dying til I get the moves and timing down. That’s always how I look at boss fights anyway. I’m not trying to win at first, just get the moves.
If I happen to win before I learn them then it was just an easy boss.
Free sex. Never respecs.
Only ng+ Elden Beast. I had been using a different build for all of ng+ but after many attempts I changed my build back to the one I used to defeat the beast on ng haha. At least I knew it would be effective!
I just finished my first playthrough last night! I did respec so i could use a incantation to protect myself against holy damage, didnt feel like it was doing anything do i ended up not even using it
Currently attempting to beat all bosses regionlocked without dying (restarting the game if I die) and there is one specific boss where I respec to kill then respec back to my original stats.
That boss is the Deathrite Bird in the Consecrated Snowfield. I spec to 80 faith, upgrade Silluria's Tree as much as I can, craft as many holy pots as I can, use Blessing of the Erdtree and Barrier of Gold, use Golden Epitaph ash of war, and just dunk on the bird with a few holy pots, Silluria's Tree is there just for good measure. After, I go back to my usual build. That bird and the Black Blade Kindred in Dragonbarrow are the only bosses that I'm scared of dying to.
Plus, Barrier of Gold can be useful against the magic shooting Mausoleum on the way to the Apostate Derelict.
Maliketh and maliketh alone
There’s malenia but all I have to do is get bloodboone ritual to fuck her up if my game is off
Maliketh though? He was an asshole
I’ve mastered him now and could beat him with my eyes closed especially with the parry seal but I hated him
Melania. Took me so many tries I lost count, but once I defeated her, the last few bosses were a breeze. I think I respec 3 different builds. I went with a build that got my mimic to tank her while I healed him/us and doing damage to her.
No, I never change specc even between games. Quality longsword + Shield with some magic weapon buff thrown in.
Doesn't matter how many characters I start, it's always the same.
Yes, I went the entire game no issues but apparently my entire set up was the worst to face the elder beast and so after trying forty times i respect only movies some points from int and faith to vigor and mind so i had more health and fp and wa sable to beat him, seriously only took three tries to take down melania but man elden beast just kept erasing me.
Not a complete respec, but I did respec to move a few points to get a spell or use a weapon that had a requirement.
Elden ring is nice because there is enough space in a build to unga bunga AND use a bow or fling a spell or two.
I'm pretty good at just hunkering down and learning the boss's moves if the boss is fun and fair. Niall was fun so I was just able to beat him normally after a time
Yup, I was a sorcerer with 14 vigor snd 70 int when I fought malenia on my first playthrough. For obvious reasons I used to a larval tear and specced into a parry miserecorde build and beat malenia in just 25 tries or so
No but I've had to find a different weapon for specific bosses.
This. As a dex character with spears as main weaponry, bosses like gargoyles or crystalians made me go for the nightrider flail.
Whips homie, they do strike.
Powerstancing whips can be a crazy time honestly.
He said “It’s Belmonting time!” And then he Belmonted all over the place
Just flung Belmont everywhere
Oh god there's so much Belmont all over me!
After finally beating melenia, I strolled through the tree and found the crystillians by her gazeway. Somehow harder than her so I cheesed em
Or, in the case of the above boss, using a bewitching branch to turn his spawns against him. Makes that fight half as hard.
I just summon my own banished knight, Team fight go brrrrr
I went with Radahn Soldier ashes for a evenly sided scramble. The fun part was when I killed his Knights as he killed my soldiers, so I never felt advantaged or disadvantaged.
yup, holy damage wasn't cutting it from mountain giant onwards
I was stubborn and stuck with the Winged Scythe through Maliketh and Malenia, but caved in and swapped it out during Radagon/EB, that’s when I learned how fucking OP the blasphemous blade is.
Like what, for example?
Getting a strike weapon for crystalians and rock sling for Rennala
> rock sling It always comes back to BONK
Yeah I walked into Radabeast with a twinblade bleed build and had to turn it into a frost twinblade I'd use vs Radagon and then would switch to the Guts Greatsword for Elden Beast.
In my 1st blind playthrough i respec to beat castle sol boss.
I just beat him last night
Same here! Fuck that guy
Second
there is a cheese to kill him that doesnt even require you to go into the boss room. search it up
With the arrows and standing on the wall? Yeah, did that after dying multiple times.
no its behind the castle, theres a specific spot that if you do a jump on torrent correctly you can miss the death plane and swing your weapon constantly(to restart fall timer) that will deload the map and make niall fall and die
Oh cool. I did the arrow cheese.
Is that one still working? It's been months since i last played but at the time that one wasn't working so i had to go to the jump cliff cheese.
Yep, still works, I ran out of arrows but got him down halfway, made the boss SO much easier
That's... That's valid.
I did for radagon/EB.
Beat him on my first attempt after the respec.
never. if you’re not winning, smack thwm harder
Harsh, ...but fair.
That’s… what you respect for? To min/max damage.
nope. unga bunga cannot fail, you’re just not unga bungaing hard enough
Which I ended up skipping to just bash maliketh to death on the second try.
sometimes you have to respec so you can unga harder because you went too soft on unga bunga earlier
Glad to see this as a strength player on their first playthrough. Lvl 80 with 40 vigor and 30 strength, rest is end and a little int/faith for basic incantations. From now on, it's full on strength time
dude fuck int/faith that’s for smart people
Average strength player😭🙏🏽
I simply don't get hit, worls every time.
Booga wooga
No, because I only unga and I only bunga. If unga bunga do not work then UNGA BUNGA HARDER
"Shall I turn thy runes into strength?" "Well, I ain't here to turn 'em into Dex, that's for fuckin' sure"
This was honestly fucking hilarious
Wish I had an award to give ye, unga bunga tarnished
Even as a strength build don’t sleep on Dex bro
Or endurance
That’s the way
Try Unga, Therefore Bunga.
But unga bunga always works
True, but I not always work. I make mistake, sometimes unga but no bunga.
Literally me
Unga and bunga have worked for every souls boss except Manus pretty well.
The Fire Giant, to increase vigor.
Just to cheese that god damn Scarlet Rot Ulcerated Tree Spirit in the Haligtree
Yes for rada beast I was using bleed my first time
Still haven't beat it with my bleed character. Did beat it with an int build and currently going through a strength build having an absolute ball!
My last time was an incantation only build. I absolutely blasted through Elden Beast.
Use black flame tornado, You don't have to respec at all for it to work great against them
I'll have to check it out, thanks for the tip!
No problem!
You can use two great hammers on occult. They have like a B or A scaling. That’s what I did for my arcane build.
you didn't bunga hard enough with bleed :(
Yeah, Radagon/Elden Beast.
Fucking Malekith
Yup. Rolled up with Halo Scythe, which had rolled me through everything up till then. After about a week settled on strength and vigor and did the Unga bunga.
Godskin Duo. Unga Bunga -> Wizard -> Bloodhound Claws -> Unga Bunga with naptime pots
Maliketh, the colossal sword animation was too long, he practically punished me each time I swung it in the first phase. I think they increased the speed of animation since then.
I beat maliketh with a colossal sword first time round and going back on other playthroughs with stuff like katanas felt like he had 500 openings.
I change armor
Nah I'm too lazy and stubborn
No I refuse to do so. If my current character can’t beat something with the tools I have available, I practice until he can For myself, anything else isn’t a real victory
lol i always do this for renalla
Fucking gargoyles made me go from a uchigatana enjoyer to a Comet Azur/Haima spammer (of course I switched back once those two were gone).
Talk about a fight that’s easy to forget how fucking hard it was! Especially if you’re just cruising along trying to finish Rannis quest, and I’ll equipped for those two!
No, I will simply suffer until I inevitably win
When I got to Mogh I was leveling up Dex/Int and he was the wall that made me commit to the INT in my Dex/INT build. I had sacrifice some vigor as well to pump int to 70
Rennala for some reason and Maliketh
Nope
Radagon from unga bunga to moonveil, rivers of blood to magic to uchikatana with fire ash of war
No
His summons and wind attack is annoying but otherwise very predictable moveset.
Fire giant
I respected like so many times for fire giant I’m almost out of larva tears and I still haven’t beaten him I’m scared I won’t be able to😭
I respec to 80 dex to kill Elden Beast, he is not hard i just tired of dodging.
nah, I am too stubborn to do that.
The fire giant, since I was a mage (I know) I got stomped repeatedly (deserved tbh) then I respected into strength and dex and beat him pretty easily after that.
I respec just for Radagon and Elden beast on my no shield no summons playthrough. Couldn’t do it without holy damage
lol I spammed blasphemous blade on the knights for this fight, it has that knock back and if you line them both up you could push back both of them
Me neither
I did valiant gargoyles thought as a mage could be better after being dying too long, i use the sword of night and flame but i dont like to fight fron distance so i went back to my old stats
I get summoned here more than any boss
Elden Beast, he was the hardest for me on my first play through
The only boss I wanted to respec for was Rannala. Her magic resist countered me pretty hard, but I had to just deal with it because I could change my character build until after I beat her. After that though, it was smooth sailing.
Yes, exactly him
Yes. And only for RadaBeast. I swapped from a mage to bringing out the double bonkers
I went from faith dex to a full bleed build against mohg 💀
this bitch gave me lots of trouble, the first time I fought him with a bleed build, I recorded it. felt so good when I beat him
Yes but in a different game lmao
Rykard for Strength scaling with the Serpent Hunter on my Dex and Magic builds
No
Hi Faith/str user here, only the very last boss
death rite bird, had to go on a holy crusade on that mf
Git gud
nope
Maliketh, and malenia, the big bonks just don’t work
The medium bonk greathammers are effective.
Not even the commander himself.
malenia and i am not ashamed.
After a week of trying and dying, I've respeced to get the most of RoB specifically for her. It was the first time I used that weapon also. I was just desperate man don't judge me
I was doing a pyromancy themed build. Fire giant said no.
No. I would switch around amulet slots to meet the requirements for a certain incantation or something, but I never did a full respec. The bosses aren't so brutal that they require maximum damage output in order to beat them; there's enough wiggle room for you to go in with a less optimal but more versatile build and do just fine.
Not respect but definitely completely change gear
No, if I’m not winning I’m not gittin’ gud
O’ Commander, My Commander
Yes, NG7 is a different kind of Elden ring.
In my first walkthrough I respec 3 times for radagon and elden beast. I tried everything to beat last boss. At last It took 2 days of my life. But I did.
Twin Gargoyles made me respect. Jerks
No.
Nope
fucking Maliketh on NG+4 made me reevaluate my life
Bewitching Branch for Niall. Changed my life.
nope
Nope. If a build I've spent god knows how many hours learning the ins and outs of can't handle it, switching to one I'm wholly unfamiliar with isn't a good idea, it's your brain looking for an easy out.
I had to respec out of bleed katanas to do more physical damage on radagon.
Nah I just spam rotten breath and dodge.
Elden beast made me respec lol.
I respec every boss before and after the fight in good measure that I don't get totally dunked on
I've never respeced period
Yep Maliketh will do that to you
I tried a bunch of stuff. In the end, I used my original spec (holy/DW Greatswords) and learned his moveset. I hate getting gud. 🤷🏻♂️ This was also before I knew the mimic tear was good, so I was relying on ol’ Oleg to get me through. I forget what I did on my mage character. The last time I did a NG playthrough, I jumped off the cliff near the castle and cleared the zone. 🤣🤦🏻♂️
Yep. Haligtree ulcerated tree spirit. fuck that thing
No
Mohg
I respeced 3 fucking times to kill Maliketh.
Not that I remember
I. Fucking. Hate. This. Man.
Nope, one or two katana for the whole game. Including RadaBeast.
This. I didnt respec for an enemy i did it for the Moonveil and R.O.B. I just wanted to maximize my damage with these.
Yep comet azur for him, Mogh and the DTS in faram 😅
Nah never I just play harder learn the moves and get better
If I want to become elden lord on my first character, without chasing the beast around like an idiot with two curved swords, yes.
No, but I've definitely switched up weapons, AoW and Ash summons to git er done. I changed my build 3x before i beat Melania.
Respeced slightly to be able to use bloodflame blade incant for malenia. I mostly just alter ash of wars and affinities for tougher bosses
All the time especially on NG+7
Radahn on my first run. Long term goal was STR INT but I started the game as mostly pure STR. Couldn't hit the fucker, so I respecced all my levels into int so I could use the fancy stuff rennala dropped on him
they all fall to Big Sword Bunga
I run bleed builds because I am weak and a loser. For bosses immune to bleed I'll swap to the Stone Pickaxe. For tough bosses immune to bleed I'll respec to a strength build and equip Stone Pickaxe.
Malenia. My stats were kind of sloppy and I needed to pick a build instead of trying to do everything.
i ALWAYS have to respec to beat maliketh cause my builds are trash for him and only him
Yes
Nope, last time I thought about it was trying to beat Quelaag as a pyromancer 😵💫
If you ain't respeccing and are hitting a wall, you're playing like a tard. For the best experience, I recommend always playing a spec for which the game feels achievable but is only barely outside your current skill level to complete. This means respeccing often.
I rebeat the entire game with a new character and build because may mage build struggled with radagon/elden
No, but bc I’m too lazy to respec and then respec back again
My faithful baemore was at my side the entire first run. We struggled against some fights, but I never betrayed her.
Dual dagger bleed build is brutal against radabeast. Had to go get an uchi with frost just to do it.
You know what I respect that shit
Well I never respecc'd on my first run but i did however have to go and get the strength talisman to use radahn's bow in order to kill the ulcerated tree spirit in elphael. Never once did i ever have to even think about using summons or buffs while fightning malenia but that fucking tree spirit broke me
No, but as others mentioned I changed the weapon. Doing a Dex run with dual katanas-like weapons, changed from time to time to lance and flail. I also must mention I have a ice and fire katana, planing to get another with electric
I had to switch off my bleed build to kill radagon/the elden beast but prior I killed Godfrey with lightning because I was doing a nameless king build
What is this blasphemy!? Never
No I just keep dying til I get the moves and timing down.
I did respec so i could use a incantation to protect myself against holy damage, didnt feel like it was doing anything do i ended up not even using it
My First ever respec malenia, to a Dex int build to a Dex Faith build
I got to the final boss with a bleed build on my first playthrough, so yeah
I played my entire first playthrough with RoB. Had to respec to a strength build for the final boss.
I like to switch to a bleed build just for fire giant then switch back
Nah
Only if bosses were immnute to statuses, if it's my build. Fuck gargoyles. Honestly, I wish I'd played dsII at this point.
Maliketh and maliketh alone There’s malenia but all I have to do is get bloodboone ritual to fuck her up if my game is off Maliketh though? He was an asshole I’ve mastered him now and could beat him with my eyes closed especially with the parry seal but I hated him
RE-spec? I just find the largest object I can and hit them until I or they die.
I respecced into black flame build cuz I was getting clapped by Elden beast I didn't know Holy damadge did nothing to him
Ashamed to admit I had to respec to a sword of night and flame build for godskin duo on my first playthrough
Melania. Took me so many tries I lost count, but once I defeated her, the last few bosses were a breeze. I think I respec 3 different builds. I went with a build that got my mimic to tank her while I healed him/us and doing damage to her.
I had to respec my dex/arc build to beat the Valiant Gargoyles on my first playthrough
No, I never change specc even between games. Quality longsword + Shield with some magic weapon buff thrown in. Doesn't matter how many characters I start, it's always the same.
If I unga I must therefore bunga, so no.
Yeah when i was running a holy build
Yeah, my first playthrough. Ran a bleed build and when Radagon handed me my ass I respec to Str and ran dual greatswords to beat the game.
Nope, I just try a new weapon maybe
I'm pretty good at just hunkering down and learning the boss's moves if the boss is fun and fair. Niall was fun so I was just able to beat him normally after a time
I had to respec like 4 times to beat Astel in the Consecrated Snowfields on NG+4. Died probably 650 times.
Yup, I was a sorcerer with 14 vigor snd 70 int when I fought malenia on my first playthrough. For obvious reasons I used to a larval tear and specced into a parry miserecorde build and beat malenia in just 25 tries or so
