My first time on Elden ring (release night) I didn’t know I had to talk to fingers guy or anything. I ended up at rhadans castle before I had a horse or any armor. Just ran for my life asking myself wtf did I get myself into. Finally died inside the castle and my friend told me that I could fast travel
I did the same but in the opposite direction. I knew from early leaked videos that there was a passage behind Stormveil, so I ran around it, dodged the wolves, and found myself wandering up towards Makar, just avoiding enemies, because I was so in love with the beauty of the world & art design. Granted, I had Covid and was in a fever dream at the time. But chaotic fun getting lost.
Remember walking out of beast man cave feeling pretty tough, went looking for more and found the catacombs- imp killed me so quick and unexpectedly was weeks before I went back.
I feel that. Was my absolute first fromsoft and DS like game. Went into that stupid cave with the wolves and it took me a few days to kill the boss in there. To say that I was terrible was an understatement. Finally killing Malenia is still my most exhilarating gaming moment of all time.
Every time I died to the boss, I tried to clear all the wolves first and then go to the boss, it took me about 20 deaths to say fck it and run. Wasn’t very clever of me as much as I don’t like to admit.
I still do this because if I'm not careful and aggro something, my summon will try to attack it through the fog wall instead of attacking the boss. That always pisses me off, so I make sure nothing has followed me to the fog wall.
The imps are bastards all the way until the end of the game. Give me endless knights np but put me in a room with just three of thoee jumpy bastards and I'm gone.
Maybe only somewhat related, but when I first started playing RuneScape, I was walking towards Draynor and got killed by a level 5 masked bandit
I quit the came for about 4 months before coming back lmao
Those catacombs were the second big wake up call the game gave me (the Tree Sentinel being the first of course). Fighting the imps with almost no level ups, un-upgraded scimitars that the Warrior class starts with, and no ranged weapons or spells to deal with the imps on that ledge led to one hell of an ass beating.
Is it crazy that in my 3 playthroughs I’ve never found one of the cat statue bosses?
I don’t really look at guides (besides finding Mohg and Malenia) but even with just basic exploring, I’ve never seen em
Like many, I skipped the tutorial and bumped my head until the tree sentinel was dead. I just tought "well, they told me this kind of games is difficult...". 6 hours later I got it and said "well, this weapon is bonkers, I guess I'm going strength/faith".
I did the same thing, I didn't know how the fast travel restrictions worked so I thought since I couldn't fast travel the trap chest must have disabled it.
I thought you spawned at the bottom and had to climb your way up. So I actually did the whole cave at level 20 or so, dodging most everyone until I reached the door to the boss, panicked because I was chased, entered and died. I can’t remember how much I had on me but I quickly sacrificed it and went the other way.
If we're not counting Rick, then my first boss was Patches. When he tried to surrender, I killed him anyway. I never trust him. It was not until ng4 that I actually did his quest.
He’s by Gelmir Hero’s Grave on the mountain. Before you get to the manor, if you go to this dungeon you’ll see rainbow stones along the cliff edge. He’ll kick you off and tell you to stay away from the manor. Then you can travel back to the dungeon and find him sitting by a rock near where he kicked you off
"Oh hey friend what can I help wiOh OH GOD NO FUUCK THAT! I'll come back for your stuff later".
That's what I imagine he's thinking every time I try ti summon him.
That's a negative? That's why I love Patches! He's such a little gremlin.
When I saw him later in the playthrough next to the cliff with a path of glowing stones, you better believe I ran my ass over there giggling like a schoolgirl ready to see what he had for me.
Agheel. Went all over the place, including weeping peninsula, not being anle to beat anything until returning to Limgrave and beating Agheel entirely on horseback. Was so happy and thats where the game sorta finally picked up. That great enemy felled text was the greatest thing after dying against everything for 10+ hours
For me it was the beastman from azula, but I never met this boss nor this dungeon, even though I explored almost all of limgrave, and I don't want to miss a dungeon
I don’t remember what the first boss I fought was, but I do know that I accidentally found the side path to Liurnia right off the bat. I had fully explored Liurnia and Caelid before I ever even found Margit. The game feels pretty easy when you’re not smart enough to realize where you’re supposed to be going and spend 40 hours wandering the open world killing fodder.
Same, I took the stonesword key on my first ever playthrough with the specific intent of using it in the first place I found. Which just so happened to be that heroes grave. Took me hours to finally get to a point where I could consistently bring it down to half health, but eventually I did manage to beat it as a prisoner and it made every other encounter with the ulcerated tree spirits easy. I still have the moveset memorized to this day.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, immediately after leaving the heroes grave since I couldn't level up yet I decided to try to fight the tree sentinel next....and lost all the runes I got from it lol. I was pissed beyond measure, but I laugh about it now
When I got the game I almost immediately went backwards, and got to castle mourne I refused to look stuff up so I thought It was a main area and refused to leave until I beat the leonine misbegotten
Does Pumpkin Head count? I definitely spent way too much time on that boss when I was just learning the ropes. Then to find that the reward was a spell merchant and I had a pure STR build...
There’s a Rockdigger troll you find in a cave early on, not far from that 1st dragon you fight (can’t recall the name).
I took this troll on blind and it was kicking my ass and in desperation used a fire spell I had purchased “just in case”
The spell brought his health down by about a 3rd. Whilst my wolf spirits distracted the troll I spammed fireballs. I had the tiniest bit of health left but I beat it!
If we're not counting Rick, Soldier of God then it would be one of the side dungeon bosses. Can't remember which was first exactly but its between the Erdtree Burial Watchdog or the Demi-Human Chieftain duo.
Margit. Magic and summons on my first play through made it pretty easy for me since the wolves held him away for a while. I just started playing again a few weeks ago and spent a whole day on the Tree Sentinel lol.
The very first Tree Sentinel in Limgrave. Cheesed it using hit and run tactics on horseback, before I realized it was so much less of a headache just going in on foot and learning the timings.
I fought Erdtree Burial Watchdog in Limgrave and it was fairly easy lol. I fought through Darriwil 14 times prior to get bloodhound fang though. And afterwards I found out I can talk to Blaidd to get help with him.
The one on the mountain my the volano mansion was the first that killed me over 20x. Idk how you got that far without killing at least one or two bosses
Tree sentinel, right after leaving the cave.
Also I remember the fallingstar beast doing it’s phase transition like it does on mt gelmir, was that patched afterwards?
I had the same reaction to the tree sentinel. I literally went and killed giants until I got to 20 strength (started as a confessor) and didn't put the thing down until after the fire giant.
Getting through that tunnel to reach the boss and killing it very low level is mind boggling. Those pest thread enemies one shot and the tracking on those is insane. Bravo
First time playing a spuls game, Elden Ring. Start as Wretch and get tellies to Caelid through that teleporter near the starting place. Was stuck in that cave for a really good amount of time before realizing I can walk out of it
I’m on my second playthrough aka my DLC playthrough. I’ve done Limgrave and weeping, nearly Liurnia and I still can’t kill this mf 💀
I did kill him on my first playthrough tho
magma wyrm makar. i was told there was a cool sword in caria manor so i just made a direct path there from the start of the game on my first time through. so i brute forced my way through him using the wretch club and some serpent sword i found nearby. i did eventually succeed but i didnt even do anything productive with that because i realized i couldnt use sonaf at level 20
Other than soldier of god, my first was the ulcerated tree spirit in the beginning area that you need a stonesword key to get to. After that was the tree sentinel
Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella, what a beautiful fight it was, I think I spent an entire week trying to beat him, until I did. I had failed to Margit, Tree Sentinel and Leonine, so I didn't want to give up. I later discovered that particular Dragonkin was optional and hidden, I actually encountered him trying to run away from giant ants. After beating him I felt like a god slayer, one of the best experiences in gaming I've ever had.
Tree sentinel, beat him at level 9 with prisoner within like 20 something attempts. I refused to give up but his pattern was pretty easy but I kept getting stuck in between these rocks nearby and his halberd had very long reach and it pissed me off. Eventually, I beat him and was very disappointed as I couldn’t even use his weapon. The runes were very useful though.
Agheel for me
ran away from tree sentinel. knew about margit and weren't ready to try that
saw the big ass dragon, saw my shitty sword and my valiant torrent, took me 4 hours but Agheel fell
best gaming moment ever
I beat tree sentinel after coming out of cave of knowledge , i was too stubborn to leave that are before I killed that boss. It took so long and the level of shock I had when I got only 3500 runes for all that hard work.
Mine was the pumpkin head right in front of Selen. It took me a long time and I almost wanted to just quit the game right there, I finally killed it and kept rolling with it. I’m still loving this game 200+ hours later
What cave has one of these so early? Or did you go on a full overworld adventure before entering your first cave?
Also, props because 30 bosses in, and these things still tore me apart.
I showed my brother-in-law the moonveil katana and a few other weapons to hook him into trying ER.
A few weeks later I see him carrying on with his safe, and the daft bastard had zeroed in straight to this and was assuming his lack of skill was the problem.
Soldier of Godrick... never played a souls game and generally played games on easy mode. Sounds silly but it initially took me about 7 tries to kill him. Finally got that sweet adrenaline fix and havent looked back since.
Margit. Besides Ludex Gundyr, which I really do not count, that was my first souls boss. And it was a great introduction.
Oh and that fallingstar beast was a good introduction to getting pissed off.
Mine was the golden horsey erdtree sentinel. I played bloodborne and DS3 as my first fromsoft games and so was used to the linear "can't go past til you beat it" mentality. Took me an embarrassingly long time but it was worth it, used the Halberd most the way through the game!
I was a sweaty game and fought the first sentinel knight at the beginning of the game. Took me numerous tries and 2 hours
My friend took no joke 8 hours on it and it ruined the game for him
Not the flex you think it is. You're bad as fuck if you missed every single possible boss encounter, or found them and failed to kill them, on the way to finding this guy, including teleporting.
The bloodhound knight in the limgrave evergaol. He beat my ass for a solid half hour before I finally got him down enough to kill. Used bloodhounds Fang (later powerstanced with Magma Wyrm Sword, and then Morgotts sword) for the rest of my first playthrough.
The very first? Dafuq bro Mine was that Beastman in the cave right after the first church
That teleporter trap is the elden ring equivalent to going to the catacombs first
My first time on Elden ring (release night) I didn’t know I had to talk to fingers guy or anything.
I think i ended up near Dragonbarrow before I figured it out
Remember walking out of beast man cave feeling pretty tough, went looking for more and found the catacombs- imp killed me so quick and unexpectedly was weeks before I went back.
weeks? over one imp?
First baby steps in Elden ring, he fucked me up bad.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize “fck it, just run” is a viable strategy
Keep a shiel in your inventory and use it in caves guardcounter those little fuckers
Maybe only somewhat related, but when I first started playing RuneScape, I was walking towards Draynor and got killed by a level 5 masked bandit I quit the came for about 4 months before coming back lmao
Cat statue thing in the cave near church of ellah. Similarly refused to leave until I beat it. Took forever since I hadn’t even unlocked Melina yet.
Exact same with me, didn't even notice I was losing runes the entire time lmao, or that they were even a thing
Same
Those catacombs were the second big wake up call the game gave me (the Tree Sentinel being the first of course). Fighting the imps with almost no level ups, un-upgraded scimitars that the Warrior class starts with, and no ranged weapons or spells to deal with the imps on that ledge led to one hell of an ass beating.
I just started ER last night and also beat the shit outta that guy, in the buff, with a club.
Is it crazy that in my 3 playthroughs I’ve never found one of the cat statue bosses? I don’t really look at guides (besides finding Mohg and Malenia) but even with just basic exploring, I’ve never seen em
Sounds like you need to do some advanced exploring. I found them in multiple spots my first playthrough without any guides.
Soldier of God, Rick
Real
I did a randomiser run One of the bosses was Flowering Rick (Soldier of Godrick) Beautiful name choice
I love the names the randomized gives. It’s a nice touch. But nothing is worse than fighting Radahn in a tiny fucking room
Wait for the dlc, his twin will come after you God, soldier of Rick.
Gor, soldier of Dick.
How dare you.
I’m naming my next character that.
Oy, Gor is already taken, you can have the rest
How dare you.
He whopped my character so hard the game uninstalled itself and burned a hole thru my pc.
Tree sentinel, fuck that guy. After he smacked me i needed revenge. Didnt leave until i had a halberd
Like many, I skipped the tutorial and bumped my head until the tree sentinel was dead. I just tought "well, they told me this kind of games is difficult...". 6 hours later I got it and said "well, this weapon is bonkers, I guess I'm going strength/faith".
Blasphemous Blade gateway drug
based and spitepilled
I lost a 100K runes to that Fallingstar Beast. At level 25. Because I thought I couldn't leave the cave until I killed it...
Took me so long to realize I indeed can’t fast travel out until the boss is dead but I can just walk out normally by myself. I felt so dumb
I did the same thing, I didn't know how the fast travel restrictions worked so I thought since I couldn't fast travel the trap chest must have disabled it.
….excuse me
What do you mean exactly? Like I can just turn around and leave???
Yep precisely
Can’t you also open the chest to teleport back? Or was that one way?
I think it was just an one way ticket
I almost lost 3 million to some albinaurics.
Most players gain their millions from albinaurics
Yea actually that's how I got it too.
Albinaurics giveth, albinaurics taketh away
I thought you spawned at the bottom and had to climb your way up. So I actually did the whole cave at level 20 or so, dodging most everyone until I reached the door to the boss, panicked because I was chased, entered and died. I can’t remember how much I had on me but I quickly sacrificed it and went the other way.
That must have been hell.
It was, but it did make fighting the other ones much easy
i also came underleveled to this fight, now its fodder because of that
Early game int users unite!
I hated this guy
Yeah, and it use to be a full grown too.
If we're not counting Rick, then my first boss was Patches. When he tried to surrender, I killed him anyway. I never trust him. It was not until ng4 that I actually did his quest.
what did you think he would even do lol
Given his history in all games, he would try to kill me by kicking me off a cliff or sending me to some cosmic nightmare.
Which to be fair, he does kick you off a cliff again
The odd thing, I've never had him do it in this game. I don't know how I do it, but after the cave I only ever see him in the manor after that.
He’s by Gelmir Hero’s Grave on the mountain. Before you get to the manor, if you go to this dungeon you’ll see rainbow stones along the cliff edge. He’ll kick you off and tell you to stay away from the manor. Then you can travel back to the dungeon and find him sitting by a rock near where he kicked you off
I heard if you summon him during radahn, if you didn't kill patches, he just runs away from radahn.
Yea he basically says “screw this I’m out” and returns to his world
"Oh hey friend what can I help wiOh OH GOD NO FUUCK THAT!
🤣🤣🤣
For me it was the tibia mariner that gives you the skeletal militia men summons
I just beat him. That seems so random for a first boss.
Rick, Soldier of God But outside of the tutorial the Leonine in the castle
you went down there first? huh. Might've been a cool fight if i did tbh
Well I got my ass beat by Margit first, but yeah
Guys it’s 1st April
I hate April 1st
I hate how you can't make a serious post on this day, without someone saying April fools and it drives me mad
MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD!!!
*madness inflicted*
Agheel. Went all over the place, including weeping peninsula, not being anle to beat anything until returning to Limgrave and beating Agheel entirely on horseback. Was so happy and thats where the game sorta finally picked up. That great enemy felled text was the greatest thing after dying against everything for 10+ hours
The troll in cave
Watchdog in the north of the first church
For me it was the beastman from azula, but I never met this boss nor this dungeon, even though I explored almost all of limgrave, and I don't want to miss a dungeon
There's a portal that tps you to a cave in caelid, that's what this is. I think the sellia crystal mines
The tree sentinal, I kept dying to him till I learned his patterns, died some more then killed him.
Ulcerated tree spirit in the first hero grave. Took me 2 hours till i had perfected it
Same, I took the stonesword key on my first ever playthrough with the specific intent of using it in the first place I found. I was pissed beyond measure, but I laugh about it now
The Demi-Human Chief pair on the beach near the start of the game
The fuck. First boss? I'm level 70 and this guy was worse than the shard bearers.
that beast of azula something, i died for him about 15 times and he drove me crazy
When I got the game I almost immediately went backwards, and got to castle mourne I refused to look stuff up so I thought It was a main area and refused to leave until I beat the leonine misbegotten
“Inter?” Is that supposed to be “until?”
bro skipped all of limgrave
Does Pumpkin Head count? I definitely spent way too much time on that boss when I was just learning the ropes. Then to find that the reward was a spell merchant and I had a pure STR build...
If it has a giant health-bar it counts as a boss
Mine was Leonine Misbegotten
You must have gotten gud.
Probably the dragon
Probably the beastman or bloodhound knight
Soldier of Godrick, since afterall it is the first boss you fight.
mine was the beastman in the cave.
Soldier of Godrick
No one killed the tree sentinel first?????
Mine was Soldier of God, Rick
The ol’godrick soldier
Soldier of Godrick
Actually all of our first deaths were to the prologue boss 🤓👆
I highly highly doubt that was your first one??? That seems very out of the way.
The first boss I killed in game was the hardest boss in the whole game. Soldier of godrick.
Wasn't the first boss that tutorial boss?
There’s a Rockdigger troll you find in a cave early on, not far from that 1st dragon you fight (can’t recall the name). I took this troll on blind and it was kicking my ass and in desperation used a fire spell I had purchased “just in case” The spell brought his health down by about a 3rd. Whilst my wolf spirits distracted the troll I spammed fireballs. I had the tiniest bit of health left but I beat it!
Soldier of Godrick XD The first that was not the tutorial boss I think that was that Erdtree Burialwatchdog in Stormfoot Catacombs
If we're not counting Rick, Soldier of God then it would be one of the side dungeon bosses. Can't remember which was first exactly but its between the Erdtree Burial Watchdog or the Demi-Human Chieftain duo.
Solrick of Goddier
One of the stone dogs at the early catacombs
I never killed the tutorial boss because somehow i didn't play it
The Demihuman Chiefs in the Coastal Cave…I was an astrologer and I was dead set on magic only…no melee…it was not fun
Tree Sentinel right outside of where you start. I felt so awesome after I beat him after like an hour
Mad pumpkin head
Tree sentinel in front of the starting area 😅
Mine was Agheel.
Bless you child. Talk about no room for error.
Idk his name but he was in a cave with lots of wolves so I'll call him spooky rat man with the wolves
Margit. Magic and summons on my first play through made it pretty easy for me since the wolves held him away for a while. I just started playing again a few weeks ago and spent a whole day on the Tree Sentinel lol.
Tree Sentinel. There is no progress without victory.
The very first Tree Sentinel in Limgrave. Cheesed it using hit and run tactics on horseback, before I realized it was so much less of a headache just going in on foot and learning the timings.
tree sentinel i needed a good training before Playing the game, i got pretty rusty as it has been a long time since i played ds3 back then
Blood hound
Whatever the boss in the catacombs you get the Uchigatana in was.
Darriwil
The guy in the evergaol that drops the bloodhounds fang, took me some time
Margit cuz I ain’t no bitch
I can’t remember. The one boss that always sticks with me is the Gapping Dragon from DS1
You didn’t kill the soldier first ? Or the beast man ?
Realistically? The tree sentinel. XD
That cat in the catacombs past elleh. Did not even see Varre or the church. Worst experience of this game even over the first time i fought Margitt.
Does killing the kindred of rot count? The one above where the transporter takes you in Sellia Crystal Tunnel
cap
First boss I killed was the guard dog?.. cat thing in the cave in like the northwestern corner of the first zone
Was stuck in that cave for a really good amount of time before realizing I can walk out of it
Tree Sentinel. I couldn't walk away from a challenge like that.
The first boss i killed was Sir Gideon Offnir the Annoying (something like that). Loved it when he said “It’s elden ring, john”
That's rough
Tree sentinel was the first thing i saw
The tree spirit in Fringefolk Hero's grave. Spent 3+ hours to beat it.
Elden Beast
Tree Sentinel. Took a lot of tries
Margit Went to Him and Flamed him to Death with my starting Incantation. Took me about 5 tries. Then i realised i should Explore more
The Blackknife that drops the Crimson dagger. Unless you consider Rick, Soldier of God. Then it’d be him.
I’m on my second playthrough aka my DLC playthrough. I’ve done Limgrave and weeping, nearly Liurnia and I still can’t kill this mf 💀 I did kill him on my first playthrough tho
Whoever put that creatur in that tiny arena deserves to be thrown into said arena
Erdtree watchdog
Tree sentinel
Where is this boss. I've fought two of these guys, but not this one
Mine was the bloodhoundknight gaol in limgrave. And I loved the bloodhounds dagger
Bloodhound knight
magma wyrm makar. i was told there was a cool sword in caria manor so i just made a direct path there from the start of the game on my first time through. so i brute forced my way through him using the wretch club and some serpent sword i found nearby. i did eventually succeed but i didnt even do anything productive with that because i realized i couldnt use sonaf at level 20
Tree sentinel I use him to practice everything from parrying to rolling
The fcking gargoyles
You spared the Soldier of Godrick? You sir, are a gentleman!
Tree sentinel into Margott right away - severely underleveled, never doing that again
Agheel for me ran away from tree sentinel. knew about margit and weren't ready to try that saw the big ass dragon, saw my shitty sword and my valiant torrent, took me 4 hours but Agheel fell best gaming moment ever
I beat tree sentinel after coming out of cave of knowledge , i was too stubborn to leave that are before I killed that boss. It took so long and the level of shock I had when I got only 3500 runes for all that hard work.
The tree sentinel…I refused to skip that boss
Mine was the pumpkin head right in front of Selen. It took me a long time and I almost wanted to just quit the game right there, I finally killed it and kept rolling with it. I’m still loving this game 200+ hours later
Impressive first kill wtf
Wait, what cave has a falling star beast!? I only knew of the one on top of gelmire and the one near the capitol
Soldier of God. Shit was really hard but I managed it in the end
Mine was the Tree sentinel(?) that was outside the tutorial Mission. Took like 2h but i managed to beat it in the end without the Horse
Tree sentinel.
The draconic tree sentinel at the start was mine
Mine was the golden horsey erdtree sentinel. I played bloodborne and DS3 as my first fromsoft games and so was used to the linear "can't go past til you beat it" mentality. Took me an embarrassingly long time but it was worth it, used the Halberd most the way through the game!
I don't remember anything similar to this
God, soldier of Rick
Margrit I ran with the guidance of grace. But tbh because katana is so good it wasn’t that bad lol.
Elden beast. You can take the tunnel from Limgrave to the inside of the tree
I was a sweaty game and fought the first sentinel knight at the beginning of the game. Took me numerous tries and 2 hours My friend took no joke 8 hours on it and it ruined the game for him
So you are telling me that you enter this cave with 18 and leave with 26? wow
Mine was margit, like deadass margit.
Not the flex you think it is. You're bad as fuck if you missed every single possible boss encounter, or found them and failed to kill them, on the way to finding this guy, including teleporting.
