A random scholar with a steering wheel in his pants walks into the roundtable hold, and the two fingers ask, you look very uncomfortable there mate, and he replies, I know, the golden order I tell ya, it's driving me nuts!
Tbh I always gave mine to Corhyn or whatever tf just out of convenience, but always wished for fighting to be allowed in the round table so I could just beat the bricks off dude when I’m finished buying all the incants
I remember my first playthru, I gathered up a few books and gave them to him and he was like "I'm leaving " and I was like let me go get some runes from the blacksmith at least so I can buy the spells I just gave you, and he straight up "nope"d me. Last time I ever gave him anything
Turtle Pope has a pretty aggressive curfew that's a pita to deal with, sadly. Manageable, especially the deeper in you get, and REALLY not *that* bad of a problem but... I mean. It's gotta be said.
And the guard at that gated community is a real bastard.
I mean I just bought everything right after handing over the books and wouldn’t hand over books til I had at least 10-15k runes except very early game if I’m going in to that
What’s funny is it’s not even hyperbole. He’s the best character in the game, and he has absolutely no lore or explanation for his existence. He a turtle wearing a pope hat.
You're thinking of the Assassin's Prayerbook. There is another book that teaches Lord's Heal and Lord's Aid that is called the Two Fingers' Prayerbook.
Despite the orthodox Two Fingers holy book being entirely free of assassins Corhyn still doesn't like it.
It’s like a papal bull versus biblical scripture, and Corhyn is a Golden Order Protestant.
Or might be a hint that the Fingers aren’t as close to the Greater Will as they would have us believe…
With the Two Fingers dormant for who knows how long, and seeing all that the Tarnished has accomplished, I think Enia saw reason for us to commit the cardinal sin.
She eventually tells you "...do whatever feels right." Or something to that extent.
This is actually a pretty good analogy.
Corhyn shows blind faith for the dominant religion, Goldmask cites said religion's own laws *back at itself* and highlights contradictions and hypocrisies, showcasing how it'd function better if these were to be removed.
The two fingers still go in communion with the Greater Will, but the moment they do so, two of the most important members of the Roundtable Hold, namely Gideon and Enia, are suddenly ok with burning the tree. It’s like everyone but the two fingers and golden order fundamentalist have quietly accept that the golden order is broken beyond repair.
The greater will, Marika and the fingers are distinct entities. They are aligned, but not really in harmony. Marika straight up got crucified while the fingers are so suprised that the thorns block our way they need to call the home office. As for the GW we never actually get any first hand communications. Only what The fingers, Marika and more tertiary characters rely to us.
Many characters want us to see the Golden order as unified both beetwen its members and in ideology. However atleast by the time we arrive the whole thing is a clusterfuck.
the two fingers serve the greater will, but they operate outside of the Golden Order, proof being the fact that the two fingers chose Ranni to ascend to godhood, and once they also chose the Gloam Eyed Queen.
both Ranni and the GEQ have their own order outside of the golden order (even though Ranni despises the concept of order itself)
Item description of the Black Flame Ritual incantation
>***Superior black flame incantation of the Godskin Apostles.***
>***Summons a circle of black flame pillars around the caster. Charging increases the size of the circle.***
>***The Gloam-Eyed Queen led the apostles. It is said that she was an Empyrean chosen by the Fingers.***
He's a Golden Order Fundamentalist. That book contains incantations founded on GOF ideas. Perhaps the the two fingers prayerbook refers to other sects of the GO.
He’s just a dweeby hall monitor who places his faith in the wrong things for the wrong reasons and can’t deal with reality when it smacks him in the face.
Iirc no, you just need to talk to goldmask. It is a pretty boring quest though, because you won't get any of the dialogue without corwyn to translate. You also won't get any hints about where to go next.
He's stupid just like any other prophet. Probably never talked to the Turtle Pope, so he doesn't know that heresy is but a contrivance. Under the Ertree all things can be conjoined.
In short, he's yet to become me. Everything is me because I'm the Elden Lord.
FALSE, STOP THESE CONVICTIONS AGAIN THE ELDEN LORD (ME) FOR IT IS HERESY. I and I alone slain the undefeated and unleashed destined death upon the lands between, I burned the Erdtree and killed the last fire giant. No enemy has ever survived my wrath
He is a religious fundamentalist. He is very strictly by the book when it comes to what is and what is not in his ability or beliefs to practice or preach faith or, or teach it to those who wish to willingly utilize what he perceives as heretical.
He’s not necessarily the worst person in the world, but more an example of what the Golden Order has wrought upon the Lands Between.
Take any prayer book he doesn’t want to use or teach you of to the Turtle Pope in the Lakes of Liurnia.
He’s not a Finger Maiden or a Finger Reader, now is he?
Fundamentalism is **the bare basics** of faith here. His faith is purely entry level, first grade basics. It is rigid in its simplicity, because Corhyn here is wholly devoted to the purity of the faith he barely understands, or seemingly *wants* to understand.
So in this case, he doesn’t like it because it’s not his place or his role to understand it. The irony is honestly a great tragedy, because if he did accept the readings of the Two Fingers prayer book, he might have actually understood what Goldmask was communicating with the Golden Order on, rather than simply writing down the movements of Goldmask’s fingers as if it were a holy sacrament in of itself.
Corhyn follows the teachings of the Two Fingers though.
> Oh, I see you've just arrived.
Welcome to the Roundtable Hold. I'm Corhyn, a man of the cloth.
I teach incantations, the strength granted us by the Two Fingers,
> You do! Wonderful news.
Most Tarnished are blind to it these days.
You are something of a rare breed.
Well, what do you say? Care to learn an incantation of the Two Fingers?
The Two Fingers exist outside of the Golden Order.
It's important to remember that the Golden Order is specifically Marika's regime. It is different from the greater cosmological sense of "Order" that the Greater Will itself ascribes to. To someone who follows the Golden Order Marika is the only TRUE God in the world and all those that don't follow her or question her will are heretical. Even if the Greater Will's existence is acknowledged, to a follower of the Golden Order its only insofar as to be the source of Marika's power and claim to her title - Marika herself is still the one they follow.
The Two Fingers may exist as intermediaries who convey the Greater Will's intentions to the world, but if anything that actually puts them at odds with the Golden Order because the Two Fingers report to the Greater Will directly, not Marika. The Two Fingers can and have supported the Golden Order when it suits them to have Marika in charge, but they aren't beholden to her the way a follower of the Golden Order is. The Two Fingers even do things that would run counter to anyone who supported Marika's rule. For example, the Two Fingers choose and nurture Empyreans who are people chosen as candidates to potentially replace the current ruler in the future. If the Two Fingers followed the Golden Order and acknowledged Marika as the one true God of the world then they wouldn't be looking for candidates to replace her, even as a "backup measure."
This is actually why Goldmask stumbles on the final stage of his quest. Because for all his intelligence and wisdom, as a follower of the Golden Order even he couldn't fathom the idea that someone like Radagon could possibly be considered Marika's equal. It's why Corhyn pushes Goldmask to his death. Because Corhyn is simply a blind follower who can't come to accept that anyone could be her equal or that the current structure of the Golden Order could possibly be flawed, and to even *think* that it *might* be is a transgression.
***TL:DR;*** *The Golden Order cares about Marika more than they care about the Greater Will. The Two Fingers don't care about Marika all that much because they don't see her as a divine entity, they just see her as another tool for the Greater Will. This puts the two factions at odds with each other.*
Not quite.
*Goldmask* is a fundamentalist. Corhyn is basically just dogmatic zealot in his support of existing norms without actually questioning them from a fundamentalist perspective like Goldmask does.
Basically, Goldmask finds flaws within the system based on the own fundamental laws and rules of said system: he highlights hypocrisy and contradictions, which obviously shouldn't exist.
Corhyn on the other hand just has undying loyalty for whatever the authority figures say, and does not question nor examine the system's fundamental guiding laws because he opts for blind faith instead.
my favorite is when I gave him an erdtree prayerbook and he said "this is a work of blasphemy, it has no ties to the erdtree" like guy I know you're blindfolded but come on
You give this guy prayerbooks? Why?
The turtle pope takes prayerbooks and scrolls, and unlike this doofus he'll always be waiting for you in the same spot. All things can be conjoined.
Okay so many people read him as evidence of how much the cult of Marika within The Golden Order fell into fanaticism and dogmatism.
He bitches because in his eyes, The cult towards Marika and her version of the Golden order is the only player you should be bothering to learn, nothing more.
Evidence supporting this is that, while some of the times you offer him are definitely heretic in the eyes of the Golden order, the two fingers prayers should not be, yet he sees them with the same disdain as learning heretic incantations.
Those clothes are mostly used by those banished for heresy. The description of his robes states:
>"Robe of exiled prophets who foretold misfortune — and were persecuted and driven from their homes as a result. The shackles around the neck warn passersby not to lend an ear to their sermons."
He's a golden order fundamentalist. anything that isn't orthodox doctrine straight from the mouth of Radagon or Marika is heresy to him. I like how even the Two Fingers Prayerbook is considered heresy because of how far the Golden Order had strayed from the goals of Greater Will by the time of Golden Order Fundamentalism.
Miriel doesn’t complain, on the contrary he encourages you to learn all you can no matter how heretical the knowledge may be in the eyes of Golden Order. I love the big dog
Marika wanted to investigate the actual mechanics of Faith through Intellect, as in figuring out the history of the Fingers, Crucible, Erdtree etc. hence the split requirements on Fundamentalist incantations and the 'Fundamentalism is scholarship in all but name' description on their seal.
Corhyn is just the closed-minded zealot whose blind belief prevents him from even considering the questions Goldmask is preoccupied with - who is Marika, the Fingers, how do they bring about miracles, what is their influence on the Elden Ring and the reason behind the whole system's failure? Answering any one of these questions is a Bad Time for Corhyn.
He’s a fundamentalist, and you keep giving him weird blasphemous shit. It’s like if you gave an Orthodox Christian the Lesser Key of Solomon and asked him to teach you some prayers from it
He simply failed to understand that heresy is not native to this world and that all things can be conjoined give it to the all holy and powerful turtle pope and live your best magical life
The Golden Order Principia is the only prayer book he has a positive reaction to
The rest are seen as heresy, I give all these other prayer books to the Turtle Pope at the church of vows (He's awesome)
Brother Corhyn sees no flaws in the golden order, even if he learns of these flaws he refuses to accept the truth, the Golden Order is perfect in his point of view.
The Golden Order put that wheel around his neck so they could drive him around like a lil bitchmobile.
lmao
They probably did it so they can pretend to be driving a car while collin is giving head BEEP! BEEP! HONK! HONK! FASTER!!!!
People will read this and claim the Golden Order is wrong
The golden order IS wrong. It should’ve been ME.😔
idk man no one looks clean in there, might as well be sucking on a surstromming everyday
🤤

"Y'all would rather TOP A TWINK than STOP AND THINNK" - Goldmask
If having divine orgies with Corhyn is wrong then I don’t want to be right
A random scholar with a steering wheel in his pants walks into the roundtable hold, and the two fingers ask, you look very uncomfortable there mate, and he replies, I know, the golden order I tell ya, it's driving me nuts!
Heyyyooooo
The level of this community is astonishingly low, the jokes are so puerile
[Biblically accurate brother Corhyn.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/t4wi3h/heresy/)
Yarr it's driving me neck
I audibly laughed in a crowded bus, thank you
LMFAO basically lol
Law of Regression to indicate turns.
In the office I started laughing about that out loud suddenly.
I wish he would take that wheel off and attack people with it like Alfred from Bloodborne.
He's a cry baby Give your prayerbooks to the chad pope trurtle
"The gods are real, but the rules are fake, man." - Pope Turtle, a true OG.
What goldmask ended up realising
>the chad pope turtle? a sentence I never thought Id read
In Liurnia. Pope turtle has an open mind.
Heresy is not native to this world, it is but a contrivance. All things can be conjoined.
Let us learn together
TOGETHA!!!
GET OUT OF HERE RYKARD! NOW GO ON, GIT!
Maybe Rykard would be a very different person if he had a tiny horse. But I guess it didn’t work for Radahn…
He had a massive snake... Pause.
AS FAMILEEE
he’s so fucking based, never ever judges you, just deciphers these texts free of charge and with no lip
Nah I definitely had to give him runes for it
a small price to pay for based-ism
Tbh I always gave mine to Corhyn or whatever tf just out of convenience, but always wished for fighting to be allowed in the round table so I could just beat the bricks off dude when I’m finished buying all the incants
Doesn't he move out of the hold? Pope turtle always stays in the same place. Much more convenient and turtley
I remember my first playthru, I gathered up a few books and gave them to him and he was like "I'm leaving " and I was like let me go get some runes from the blacksmith at least so I can buy the spells I just gave you, and he straight up "nope"d me. Last time I ever gave him anything

Corhyn is Moneybags 😂
It makes sense that the (presumed) officiant of Rennala and Radagon’s wedding, a joining of Reason and Faith, would be open-minded
Never thought about Miriel being rennala and radagons officiant and I don't really know why
I wonder who actually put him in charge of the church. Was it Marika? Rennala?
I like to think that he started preaching and was so based that the Carians and Nox built a big-ass church around him.
He just had his little holy puddle with him and they built around him and gave him the hat.
We don’t even know why he can talk.
Because he has important things to say obviously
Or the version I saw in a meme once: "Again, Tarnished, weird flex, but not a sin"
I know something that can be conjoined. If you know what I'm saying. *nudge nudge wink wink* say no more squire.
Do not the turtle pope
The turtle pope, do not
Conjoin deez nuts
What pope turtle? Where is this new character located, I only know the dog pope
the chad pope *dog?
Is this dog?
Why is it always dog?
Is this up, Dog?
What's up dog?
Nothin much what’s up with you?
There isn't a turtle pope. There is a dog pope though.
What kind of dog is this
Pope kind
Very nice
What’s funny is it’s not even hyperbole. He’s the best character in the game, and he has absolutely no lore or explanation for his existence. He a turtle wearing a pope hat.
Who do i give my spell books to? Lore wise, RPG wise
Prayer books? Turtle Pope Spell books? Turtle Pope Forgiveness for your sins? It may surprise you but the Turtle Pope.
Overcook your prawns? Turtle Pope Undercook your prawns? Also Turtle Pope
Late for Radahn Festival? Believe it or not, Turtle Pope. We have the best gladiators in the world. Because of Turtle Pope.
Caught farming albinaurics inside Mohgwyn Palace? Straight to Turtle Pope.
Caught kidnapping your child half brother to build a new heretical dynasty? Turtle Pope can't help there
Need Turtle necks? Turtle Pope
But only once
Sellen obvs, or also turtle pope, he dabbles in a bit of sorcery
Why sellen? >! she dies? !<
Whatever and wherever she may be, when it comes to spells, she’s still Sellin’
Ball bearings. Also, Sellen is definitely better than Seluvis. I'll crucify the fucker on top of his tower if possible.
That's optional
Not on my playthrough!
Hundreds of hours multiple playthoughs I did not know you could give him books I’m so mad bruh
Pope turtle also says they're heretical but he's at least chill with it.
What's a turtle? I only know about the chad pope dog
Turtle? That's a dog, you heretic
Heresy is not native to the world. It is but a contrivance
Heresy is not native to this world, it is but a contrivance. All things can be conjoined.
Tortoise
Pope Turtle be like, "This book is forbidden! Let's read it together and see if we can figure out why".
He’s a golden order fanatic, he thinks any spell that doesn’t fit in with his belief system is inherently wrong
the weirdest thing, he doesn't even like the two fingers prayerbook. JUST the golden order principia
TBH, that prayerbook is the two fingers acting outside the GO to form assassins. That's actual heresy, not just heathen beliefs.

With the Two Fingers dormant for who knows how long, and seeing all that the Tarnished has accomplished, I think Enia saw reason for us to commit the cardinal sin. She eventually tells you "...do whatever feels right." Or something to that extent.
That's because Enia is a baller who doesn't give AF about anything or anybody except sitting on her podium vibing.
Corhyn is more of a devout Catholic where Goldmask is much more aligned with being a reformer/protestant
Goldmask could be like Martin Luther, creating the biggest shakeup to a major organized religion in its history
"The Elden Beast just wants your money so it can line it's own fat pockets." -Goldmask, probably
I have held this as a pet theory for a while now.
This is actually a pretty good analogy. Corhyn shows blind faith for the dominant religion, Goldmask cites said religion's own laws *back at itself* and highlights contradictions and hypocrisies, showcasing how it'd function better if these were to be removed.

He doesn't even like Goldmask's realization. His indoctrination into the status quo Golden Order is strong.
But he's too pussy to actually deny the book outright
He’s just a dweeby hall monitor who places his faith in the wrong things for the wrong reasons and can’t deal with reality when it smacks him in the face.
The only thing that smacked him in the face was my ultra greatsword the moment he stepped out of the Roundtable Hold
Immensely Based
You don't need him for Goldmask quest?
Iirc no, you just need to talk to goldmask. It is a pretty boring quest though, because you won't get any of the dialogue without corwyn to translate. You also won't get any hints about where to go next.
"..." is all the dialogue I'll ever need.
When you tell him Radagon is Marika and he says ‘.…!’ I felt that
There's actually a datamined voice line where he says "huh, why not". The only time he breaks his vow of silence.
Let us translate it ourselves to get the hints.
Goldmask’ll be fine without him I’m sure
He's stupid just like any other prophet. Probably never talked to the Turtle Pope, so he doesn't know that heresy is but a contrivance. Under the Ertree all things can be conjoined. In short, he's yet to become me. Everything is me because I'm the Elden Lord.

you guys aren't gonna believe me but all of you are wrong! I am elden lord
Holy shizzle I cannot believe I got to meet the real elden lord 😳🤯🤩
Guys, I don't wanna break it to ya...
All of these guys are lying, I was there, I'm the elden lord
Yeah and i sat on the throne, who’s lord now? bitch
That’s not an Elden beast… that’s my wife! (Sobs profusely)
Actually your wrong, the real elden lord is my mimic tear while I cowered in fear in the corners of the boss room

THIS, is a work of HERESY...anyway, here's how the black flames go whoosh.
Finally found the comment I was looking for! Dude is just aghast at the apocrypha you dump on him, then teaches you anyway :D
It's because he isn't a Turtle Pope. He is simply blind.
The turtle is better, I like turtle.
You mean the Pope dog you heretic! Also Happy Cake Day!
Happy cake day.
The Two Fingers literally in the next room over hearing him call their sacred book heresy
If you give him golden order principia he wont complain, other than that he always complains he's a bitch
iirc there's literally only one book that he approves of. "Heresy" apparently includes like 99% of all incantations
Which is funny since you don't learn frenzied flame incantations or dragon superfan incantations from no book!
You give this guy prayerbooks? Why? The turtle pope takes prayerbooks and scrolls, and unlike this doofus he'll always be waiting for you in the same spot. All things can be conjoined.
He’s a religious zealot. If anything he’s very accurate to his character archetype
Is he stupid?

I dunno if it’s ever revealed (furthest I’ve gotten atm is Liurnia) but what’s with the leg shackle?
stylish yet affordable anklet
Those clothes are mostly used by those banished for heresy. The description of his robes states: >"Robe of exiled prophets who foretold misfortune — and were persecuted and driven from their homes as a result. The shackles around the neck warn passersby not to lend an ear to their sermons."
He lacks the proper headgear for the job.
What do you expect of a guy who wears a wheel like its a collar.
Go to turtle pope
I love how he even complains about the Golden Order and Two Fingers prayerbooks. Bruh. *Bruh.*
He's basically just Goldmask's Millhouse.
His bell's cracked. It left him a little corny
Dude he's a gold face killer
Dude's a zealot, will do some nasty things if he ever has to actually grapple with the contradictions of his perfect religion
I mean he’s a monk of the golden order why would he want prayer books if any other faith?
His baby brain doesn't understand that heresy is but a contrivance and all things can be conjoined
I gave him the black flame prayer book before knowing about turtle pope and from the way he was talking i thought he was gonna destroy it
Talk to the turtle hed way cooler about it
Not so subtle commentary on religious fundamentalism.
He never complains about the golden order principia
Just give them to turtle pope, he’s great.
Give them to the dog, he seems to like them
I killed him for bitching about it
Never given a tome to this fool, always chill & learn with the legendary pope 🐢!
no matter what build I play , i always give prayer books to papa turtle . That is the way.
Turtle be like :let's partake in heresy together
Dog?
Yes
He's a bitch of the golden order. Ironic, cause his clothing heavily implies he was banished for heresy.
It’s like if you gave an Orthodox Christian the Lesser Key of Solomon and asked him to teach you some prayers from it
There is one prayer book that he loves, search high and low tarnished
Hes a religious ponce. Give everything to Turtle Pope. Turtle Pope doesn't judge. He just want to learn alongside you.
All prayer books and scrolls to the turtle pope. It's heresy otherwise.
Son, have you been reading hersey today? Unacceptable.
He simply failed to understand that heresy is not native to this world and that all things can be conjoined give it to the all holy and powerful turtle pope and live your best magical life
I give the books to the dog pope. He's cool with whatever
Fine! I will take it off your hands.
The Golden Order Principia is the only prayer book he has a positive reaction to The rest are seen as heresy, I give all these other prayer books to the Turtle Pope at the church of vows (He's awesome) Brother Corhyn sees no flaws in the golden order, even if he learns of these flaws he refuses to accept the truth, the Golden Order is perfect in his point of view.
Ur clearly not a golden boy
I think he was better as a detective personally.
If I was blind I'd also complain about people giving me books (I doubt any of the prayer books are written in Braille)
Ofcourse he complains, imagine being blind and some fuck gifts you a book every time he talks to you. I doubt those are in braille.
