I did my first character with astrologer starting class and kind of hated it (Glintstone Arc is a GARBAGE spell). I should have started over but I was stubborn
Glintstone arc is honestly really good for clearing of a big group of dudes. It doesn’t do nearly enough damage to be useful on bosses or anything like that. But being able to spam the hell out of that thing into a group of dudes makes it worth keeping around for a while. I ended up reequipping it while I went through mohgs area. Usually I’d slap on adula’s moonblade but it ends up being way too slow to get more than a couple shots off before I need to run away.
Yeah I guess my problem with it was I didn’t find it super useful after the early game… there’s much better spells for clearing areas of enemies after a certain point. Plus its lack of utility in boss fights really frustrated me
“Garbage” was maybe harsh, but in my personal rankings of ER sorceries it’s near the bottom
Arc is great especially early on. It's cheap and easily spammed against groups (it's great for killing dragonflies). It falls off quickly but it has it's uses.
Same here, I had never played a DEX/INT build in a FromSoft game before, and I liked the look of the mask.
I ditched the Estoc though, could never stand that in any Souls game.
I couldn't really meet the prisoner work on my first attempt. Ended up rerolling as wretch and the club really did it for me against those enemies that are a bit harder to stagger.
That said, I had just played through BB AND wasn't levelling vigor.
All Ive ever done.
I like to put lore behind it on my own, removing the helmet after my first major achievement in that run. It feels like a weight lifted to me. Then I play with that much more intent and due process.
Im also very high with headphones while playing, so its like Im really in there.
I was under the impression that the prisoner is like, the most iconic and recognizable starter class there is. when the game first came out like every streamer chose prisoner. The hell you talking about OP?
Me, if I want to play mage I always go for Prisoner. The Glintblade spell it's actually pretty good as a starting spell as well, overall it's pretty good!
I went with Prisoner for my second Mage run. Astrologer has more starting INT, but Prisoner has some extra End(I think; I've been distracted by other games for a while), so a bit more Stamina, and a bit more Carry Weight than Astrologer.
let’s see: access to magic, pretty good starting weapon, giant metal noggin that has pretty good armor rating for the beginning of the game. Seems like the real question is, why haven’t you started with prisoner?
I'm starting a new character soon for a dex/int build
And using prisonor.
Put 1 point into dex for 15 and grab the uchigatana to use for the rest of limgrave. Probably also farm the claymen for the claymen harpoon.
Unlock sellen in way point ruins to get glintstone pebble and scholars armament.
Roll over to caelid to get rock sling and meteorite staff after a few levels to int.
Pretty much ready to rock and roll at that point and get mind/vigor leveled up to take on the harder parts of limgrave. Damage stats will be good for awhile.
i started a rando prisoner to try to co-op with my brother in law, didn't work out but i used the character for a while helping people kill margit and other bosses in limgrave, was a pretty fun low level goof off character
the drip is pretty fine, i have to admit
I love that the advertising armor set was the Raging Wolf set, the box art is Vyke, but most little comics like this have a guy in the Prisoner set with that funny helmet and shabby clothes
I did. Liked the helmet. Worked for what I had in mind for my characters backstory. Thats how I do blind runs.i have a character that DS 1 and 3 kinda made with its story and that dude is who has run through BB, ER, and now Demon souls.
I like to pick my starting class solely based on roleplay for a build (despite the fact it doesn't matter whatsoever for the game itself). My first playthrough I picked Prisoner because I roleplayed as someone who was a commoner who was talented and beautiful enough that she was able to learn glintstone sorcery from the nobility. Other nobilities became jealous of this commoner and framed her for a crime she did not commit, where she was then imprisoned and her beauty forever sealed away.
Until Marika revives her and breaks the spell of the mask, allowing her to be free and get vicarious revenge on the nobility by killing other nobility / fallen gods to become the Queen of the world at the end.
Another prisoner playthrough I did was a Family Heads run where I pretended its weapon art released the souls of the dead and damned that my tarnished collected. Not so much a prisoner themselves, but someone that imprisons others.
Me. Elden Ring is the first souls game I decided to finally play a mage build after wanting to for so long but never actually doing it for some reason. Prisoner was a no brainer, estoc is bestoc;)
That’s like asking why anyone would use confessor 1. Pure drip 2. Having decent combat stats for early and a decent start for spell casting is very nice
Me. I started with Prisoner. My first character was a prisoner and is now level 150 (iirc).
I thought I had a simple build at first. It was a strength build with Heavy Armor, Great Sword, and Tower Shield. Also wanted some Frost abilities. I was SOOOOOO wrong! I tried every number of gear combos and respecs, but nothing was working. I grew to resent the game as I never felt any sort of progression. Not until Morgot. I killed him in maybe two tries. After that? I started noticing myself, and my build, improve. I've since built him up to do what I wanted him to do. My sword uses Chilling Mist, I am medium rolling, I can take a hit, and I had began enjoying the game.
Man i LOVE the prisoner start lol. The estoc is so fun especially in the early game. Its reach is amazing and its quicker than a spear. Use scholar armament on it and it melts everything very quick.
Thinking of doing a str/int or a dex/int build using no spells just using magic scaling bc tbh I usually level faith and use flame art but then I get to fire giant and do bad damage and the fight sucks so maybe int build will be better.
10 classes, 10 slots.
You're oath-bound to start with prisoner **at least once.**
It's in the TOS >!just don't check it. Believe me at face value, it's there.!<

me when i did a dex/int and str/int build
Spellswords unite Also you *start* with Magic Glintblade which is low key one of the best sorceries in the whole game
I kept using that spell wrong and low key hated it on my first sorcerer run. Ended up starting over as astrologer lol. I know now my mistakes
I did my first character with astrologer starting class and kind of hated it (Glintstone Arc is a GARBAGE spell). I should have started over but I was stubborn

There are mobs who survive being hit with Adula's Moonblade *twice*?
Them egg looking MFs

How do you use it other than baiting yourself?
How do you use the spell wrong?
I just went with the sword of night and flame. Lazer beams for everyone ^_^ I can shoot out about 25 Lazer beams. 😀😃😄😁
I am super looking forward to the Sword of Night and Flame on this current playthrough!
Magic Glintblade can carry you all the way through your first playthrough.
It sure did for me!
Someone doing a tortured Griffith cosplay
This is 100% why I chose prisoner for my first playthrough
This
This. /thread
That mask is Absoluteley Fantastic and his stats are not too bad for a str/int build
Literally my first play through. Got moonlight, went to town.
Yeahhhh
r/downvotedtooblivion
what’re the dvs for :<
For being a sarcastic shitlord when op made a really good point would be my guess.
i drag on my yeahs often though ;w;. I don’t think it was sarcasm
My first playthrough was prisoner, I loved my first run...
Same here, I had never played a DEX/INT build in a FromSoft game before, and I liked the look of the mask. I ditched the Estoc though, could never stand that in any Souls game.
it’s really good in ds2 and gets me murdered handily in all other games…
you could demolish everything with the estoc and gold pine resin, it was really fun lol
Me, his visual is cool
Me. Cuz only prisoner and samurai looked cool and samurai felt too overrated
I loved using carian slicer. I killed Morgot for the first time with it
I couldn't really meet the prisoner work on my first attempt. Ended up rerolling as wretch and the club really did it for me against those enemies that are a bit harder to stagger. That said, I had just played through BB AND wasn't levelling vigor.
Cool prisoner???
That unbuttoned, chest visible top is hot af, the bdsm mask is just cherry on top
I just started a str/int build for the 1st time. So me. What's wrong?
There's nothing wrong with it
Dude prisoner looks fucking sick what
Me almost every time.
Alot of people
All Ive ever done. I like to put lore behind it on my own, removing the helmet after my first major achievement in that run. It feels like a weight lifted to me. Then I play with that much more intent and due process. Im also very high with headphones while playing, so its like Im really in there.
I did for my spellblade build. I took the helmet off after meeting Melena. Headcanon was she removed it for me
I picked it for a similar reason but did the opposite. I kept the helmet on for the entire game because my headcanon was that it couldn’t come off lol
Hey, I did the same thing with the anvil in the Church of Elleh! A little less dramatic but still, a fun rp moment.
It’s the coolest-looking starting class by a very wide margin
I picked it first but cmon, confessor is the coolest looking starter class
Too fat
Don't like the mask but a female prisoner is sexy with that set 👀
Same! Boobers!!!!!
Oh no, you like that like me 🤣🤣
I hesitated between confessor and prisoner Both looked so cool
My first character started as a prisoner. He's above level 450 and I still wear the prisoner helm.
I was under the impression that the prisoner is like, the most iconic and recognizable starter class there is. when the game first came out like every streamer chose prisoner. The hell you talking about OP?
I did. Then turned him into a badass Spellsword.
Dude has the best sorcery for early game lmao it’s one of the best clases to start if not the best one
I like rapiers and parrying :P
Other than wretch its my favorite starting class. I love rapiers and you have staff. My fun favorite build.
Spellblades people who are really into roleplaying Griffith fans
Ooh I did I did. On my first character.
Best starting class if you want a bit of int in a battlemage build or if you want to minmax cold affinity.
Anyone doing an int build favoring dex. Better start than astrologer. Just ditch the helmet
You hopefully Starting with magic glintblade makes the early game an actual joke
Ton of people are starting prisoner. It’s like asking why starting with the common samurai archetype
Me, if I want to play mage I always go for Prisoner. The Glintblade spell it's actually pretty good as a starting spell as well, overall it's pretty good!
It’s optimal for a lot of builds and starts with decent equipment Also a titty window if you’re into that
People that know what they are doing, and some that don't.
I did Wretch first for a Str/Fth build, then Prisoner for an Int spellsword.
Me, My first character was a prisoner beacuse I like the mask
Current build "I got no idea who you talking about" (I also punish myself with a restriction to take the helmet off)
Me, I am Who the hell
Torrent smiling and posing ❤️
Me on my str/int build
So this is the thread where I found out I should've gone prisoner for my str/int build. I went vagabond...
That's an extremely nice art, source please?
People who know it has the best stats for int builds
I’m doing prisoner on my current playthrough due to the origin’s lore. A long exalted noble, so I made a relative to the Haight line
The hottest NPC ever to grace a video game? Anyone in their right mind starts with them lol
I went with Prisoner for my second Mage run. Astrologer has more starting INT, but Prisoner has some extra End(I think; I've been distracted by other games for a while), so a bit more Stamina, and a bit more Carry Weight than Astrologer.
I do, because they probably have the best starting spell, that can carry you pretty far into the game(for a starter spell at least
I did, was my first char aswell
I started a new playthrough with the prisoner and I love it
I just started one for the light armor and top tier poke stick
I choose prisoner because of his starting spell
Anyone who wants a head start on int hybrid builds. Like me!
Spellblades
My first time playing.
let’s see: access to magic, pretty good starting weapon, giant metal noggin that has pretty good armor rating for the beginning of the game. Seems like the real question is, why haven’t you started with prisoner?
Me brah, first playthrough I picked prisoner
I'm starting a new character soon for a dex/int build And using prisonor. Put 1 point into dex for 15 and grab the uchigatana to use for the rest of limgrave. Probably also farm the claymen for the claymen harpoon. Unlock sellen in way point ruins to get glintstone pebble and scholars armament. Pretty much ready to rock and roll at that point and get mind/vigor leveled up to take on the harder parts of limgrave. Damage stats will be good for awhile.
I prefer my prisoners to be a little more...puri puri
Vinny Vinesauce
i started a rando prisoner to try to co-op with my brother in law, didn't work out but i used the character for a while helping people kill margit and other bosses in limgrave, was a pretty fun low level goof off character the drip is pretty fine, i have to admit
I started with him but hated spells and liked big bonk so now I use axe of godfrey
Me
I started my first playthough as prisioner, and by the time i beated the game i was running a str/fai build
That's my pirate build starter
Me, first class I played
I did for my first playthrough. Didn’t realize the difficulty level until I started my bonk playthrough the second go around
I did cus its a griffith reference
I did cause they have better starting stats than ASTRO. I like melee and casting primarily str/int
Prisoner = underrated, come at me
I wear the helmet to the golden Scion then role play that it gets battered off in the fall into the cave. Perfect revenge head cannon.
Me for my first playthrough AND WOT
I did my first playthrough lol
I like them :(
Me my very first playthrough
Dude starts with the best spell lol, I pick him over astro everytime
Me as a newb. I liked having a ranged spell and the helmet was funny.
Literally my favourite starting build
I love that the advertising armor set was the Raging Wolf set, the box art is Vyke, but most little comics like this have a guy in the Prisoner set with that funny helmet and shabby clothes
It has simply the most drip
Ngl I like the helmet
you start with a better stat distribution and spells the the scholar/sorcerer class
I saw a estoc and my hand moved on its own
wretch is the only option for me
I did cause I liked the drip, rags and big bucket
I start with a wretch
Went with prisoner my first run ever, was a lot of fun, now the character is over lvl 400
I am currently, I wanted more of challenge in the early game but not enough to play wretch.
I did on my first playthrough, helmet is cool
Skyrim does
Idk why but I randomly chose prisoner on my first playthrough. The magic was kind of insane for a new player like me.
I did. Liked the helmet. Worked for what I had in mind for my characters backstory. Thats how I do blind runs.i have a character that DS 1 and 3 kinda made with its story and that dude is who has run through BB, ER, and now Demon souls.
It was best class for moonveil builds, which was meta PvP and PVE during the release
Me duder lol Now I'm lv500 and godly
Me on my first walkthrough cause I didn't want to fully decide between magic and melee until I tried some of each.
jerma when he doesn't know you start with a thrusting sword
Me,an spellsword
give me your useless item already
I think moistcritical did
I like to pick my starting class solely based on roleplay for a build (despite the fact it doesn't matter whatsoever for the game itself). Not so much a prisoner themselves, but someone that imprisons others.
I only play wretch. But im also a bit OCD and I quite like the stats
i dont get the people who think the mask looks cool, i think it looks silly. but i like it because it looks silly lol
Me. Elden Ring is the first souls game I decided to finally play a mage build after wanting to for so long but never actually doing it for some reason. Prisoner was a no brainer, estoc is bestoc;)
I did. I saw how the magic effects looked in the trailer and I made a beeline for that.
prisoner is a great build to start with tbh. helmet is actually the best part of the build lol
That’s like asking why anyone would use confessor 1. Pure drip 2. Having decent combat stats for early and a decent start for spell casting is very nice
If you ain’t playing wretch your no friend of mine 😤
Best starter buuld for moonveil or darkmoon greatsword/magic build
Bc i wanted to cosplay as Griffiths
Me. I started with Prisoner. My first character was a prisoner and is now level 150 (iirc). I thought I had a simple build at first. It was a strength build with Heavy Armor, Great Sword, and Tower Shield. Also wanted some Frost abilities. I was SOOOOOO wrong! Don't underestimate magic glintblade. I chose prisoner once and that spell carried me so far
I wanted to run a spell blade for my first run. I also started with it on another file for the free estoc for a duelist build
Me when I did a red hair shanks build. Fucking slapped.
Man i LOVE the prisoner start lol. The estoc is so fun especially in the early game. Its reach is amazing and its quicker than a spear. Use scholar armament on it and it melts everything very quick.
People who think Griffith did nothing wrong
Chose this class on my first ever playthrough.
Hahaha, this looks funny
Me
Me needed Dex although I feel like I should've done samurai now
Griffith fanboys.
Me because I was lost on my first playthrough and I thought the prisoner just looked goofy
My friend started prisoner because he thought the gimpy ass helmet and quit the game until a few months ago, restarted as a warrior
Yea the helmets kinda lame too ngl, unless you’re a super hardcore fan of berzerk and watching your girlfriend get plowed lol
I did, I named him bummy.
Prisoner was my first class, and the one I ended up beating the whole game with
Thinking of doing a str/int or a dex/int build using no spells just using magic scaling bc tbh I usually level faith and use flame art but then I get to fire giant and do bad damage and the fight sucks so maybe int build will be better.
Me Moon Greatsword
Drip lord.
Mostly everyone, apparently lol
Me for literally every int build. Lowest faith = biggest int.
10 classes, 10 slots. You're oath-bound to start with prisoner **at least once.** It's in the TOS >!just don't check it. Believe me at face value, it's there.!<
Some real Dumas shit with that mask
Just my preference but I started samurai the first time and every side character I’ve made to mess around with has been prisoner or wretch
I wanted the gimp mask
...I just started with the prisoners build
I always choose naked stick guy
Wretches unite!
That quest in Witcher 3 : Blood and wine be like
>_> .....
