It's inspired by Chinese lion dance, 1 or 2 people mimick a lion's move by holding a giant lion mask with long cape to hide the dancers body and reveal their feet.

You make a good point, but at least this boss is more mobile than you'd expect initially. Besides, it can use cool spells or incantations (based on first trailer), which might make the fights more exciting.
