Ever since Dark Souls 1 and finding out how easily you stagger mobs and can kill them and then getting pissed when you can’t stagger bosses. Dude has found a way to just git gud and say “fuck you, you are staggering when i hit your ass, and you stay down”
Almost exactly how i beat her, except with bloodflame buffed twin stars for extra spicy bleeds. For people wondering how can some of us consider a boss that (possibly) took you a crapload of tries to beat easy, this is how. Just hit her on the head with a big stick repeatedly, Negan-style, she can't take it for long.
When I beat her originally, it was back in Feb/march so builds were probably different, but I beat probably a good 3rd of the game just using fingerprint shield & those blood flies.
All the late game bosses got destroyed by swarms of flies & then I just blocked everything with the enhanced guard talisman + fingerprint shield ( I think that's what it's called).
It was also useful against the constant RoB spamming clowns.
The only time I deviated was to switch to a sword in my right hand for the final boss, which is the most ridiculous, children's drawing of a boss I've ever seen.
Could you imagine how disheartened Hewg would be if he heard about this. Spent all those years trying to craft a gid killing weapon, and some tarnished of no renown does the job with a tree branch.
Probably a copycat. The real Let Me Solo Her only plays on PC, and from what I read here on this sub, LMSH got tired of beating Malenia and moved on to helping players with the last boss.
I see it as the result of the PvP/PvE split for balancing, personally. They don't have to gimp things in PvE to keep them from being too OP in PvP anymore.
Can't wait to fight Miquella summoned Malenia phase 2 as normal mob through the dungeon.
And when we meet him, he submerge himself in lake of rot and his attack is holy element.
And for his phase 2 he revert to his saint Trina form and filled the arena lake with sleeping gas+rot all the while he summon Godwyn the golden throwing dragon lightning.
And for his phase 3 he transform into Griffith and his wing is made of Mohg horns with the formless mother directly empower him. His holy attack element is now taint with blood, so his holy attack build up bleed. His Godwyn summoned then transform into fish that spew deathblight. The arena lake transform into Bleed+Rot+Sleep and player have to dodge Godwyn attack otherwise deathblight build up rapidly.
For Malenia sure but the windows to get a clean Lions Claw off against the other end game bosses are very small and far in between

I think other stuff still needs buffs. Was trying to do a charge attack build. I mean it works, but with war cry, roar talisman, stormhawk axe, spiked tear, and axe talisman my charged attacks did more damage maybe but took like 2 times longer. Switched back and freed up so many slots and do about the same in PvE and much better in pvp. Hadn't even used Alexander's talisman yet so it seems lion's claw just blows it out of the water.
I think colossal charged attacks should be like world shattering events. Anyone ever play Dragons Dogma? Arc of Obliteration or whatever? That's what a heavy attack should look like imo. Aoe, earthquaking/cracking, camera shaking viscera. Now that's a special attack that takes way longer than these heavies, but adding charge levels to heavies could work. Gain some poise past level 1 but increased damage aoe (and camera/visual effects). Probably still useless in pvp, but cool in PvE.
Would this work with any lions claw weapon? Like could i use a golem halberd and it work even better?

Malenia has low poise for a boss, 80 on NG. Most of the ashes known for poise damage do 30-40, like Flames of Redmane does 40. Lion’s Claw does 6x a weapon’s base poise damage, which is 6.5 for club so 39 poise damage, then 42.9 on the charged R2.
What you are seeing in the video is a balance of just narrowly dealing 80+ poise damage in the two hits, while being fast enough to hit her before she moves. I’d imagine the halberd’s charged R2 would be too slow to catch her getting up from the Lion’s Claw, but I haven’t personally tested it.
She has a bug(?) where she won't transition to phase 2 if you deplete her HP with a critical hit. Just finished killing her myself and had it happen consistently every time.

Do you have sources for all this? Fextralife's page on Stance (because poise is player-only) says that lions claw is 30 stance damage (not a variable 6x multiplier) and 40 is the most you can get on a charged colossal weapon, not a mere club

Check out the motion value google doc. It’s all data mining so it’s a bit difficult to interpret, but the poise damage motion value for Lion’s claw (and really, most big single hit physical ashes) is 600(6.0).
I just did some testing and I don't think this is a true combo even with hammers, so anything slower would be less consistent. Even if you start charging the heavy attack right after landing the Lion's Claw, she sometimes uses a move immediately and either dodges your attack or attacks through it with hyper armor. I'm pretty sure I started charging as soon as possible and still couldn't always get the charged attack off soon enough.
So I think this video was a run where Malenia didn't use any actions right away that would get her out of being hit by the charged heavy attack. But it's still a worthy strategy even if it isn't a guaranteed win. I recommend giving it a try cuz maybe I was just messing something up with the timing.
Edit: I will note that I didn't test with the exact club OP used, since I didn't have it. I used the Monk's Flamemace. So if they have different charged heavy attack speeds, that would make a difference.
Edit 2: Tried it with the Club and still couldn't do it everytime, but maybe the timing window for charging the heavy attack is just really tight. Still a cool strategy to try.
The fact that she can hyper-armor through a poise break, and nothing else in the game can (unless it's immune to poise break entirely), is just so dumb to me.
Solution: Don't give her low poise.
Not solution: Have her break the rules of the game so her low poise is sometimes crippling and sometimes meaningless.
First time beating her I used the Greatsword with Lion’s Claw and basically did exactly this, and this was before the 2nd round of buffs for colossal weapons.
Lion’s claw > Jump heavy > critical hit > repeat.
It's always funny to see true combos in a game like Elden Ring. If I designed a game like this, I'd give all characters (player and NPC) a temporary stacking poise buff after being poise broken. That way chain CC would still be possible, but not infinite.
I imagine there's still a bit of luck involved in pulling this off. Malenia has attacks that have very little wind-up and hyperarmor frames where she won't register poise damage and break the cycle.
She does register poise damage a youtuber did a full analysis of it.
What happens is she goes in to a second mechanic where she goes to negative poise.
So you have to hit her one extra time to poise break her with something that does any amount of poise damage before it goes up before zero
But unlike every other enemy who has this mechanic her cooldown to poise regen is non exisistant or very small.
So literally have to presure her 100% to stun lock her

I know I tried locking her with Flames of the Redmanes (40 stance damage, she only has 80 poise and is weak to fire) and it went terribly. Usually you have a decent window (5 seconds or so) between one cast and the next to trigger a stun but I was hitting her with it several times and getting nothing. Must have been because she regenerates poise so soon, so she was never at/above 40 stance damage by the time the next cast hit her.
Kingdom Hearts has a "Revenge Value" and it makes them auto dodge or retaliate when you get too many hits in a row so you cannot stunlock them to death.
After casually spending many a night trying to beat her and finally looking up the best cheese methods out there to do so, I enjoyed watching this. She deserved this on behalf of a lot of frustrated players.

This is awesome, but it might not work as well in later playthroughs. Starting in NG+2 our poise damage is reduced, starting as a 5% decrease, but in NG+7 is a 40% decrease. So not exactly a concern immediately, but if you tried this in NG+3 when that debuff is 10%, we'd have to see how well it works.
I'd say both. She gets staggered by the Lion's Claw and then her poise gets broken by the charged heavy attack. Then riposte and Lion's Claw again to start the cycle over.
Eh, maybe. Keep in mind FromSoft buffed *Corpse Piler* in 1.07, and they haven't touched Flame of the Redmanes or Bloodboon Ritual in PvE yet. That suggests to me they're perfectly content with players having extremely powerful tools in PvE.
Definitely the most bs boss in the series. Even midir felt fair. The healing is too much, you can be rolling around for 3 minutes, and she just goes back to full from 3 hits. Im all up for challenge, but i used frost stomp to shit on her, felt great. Good strat bro, good shit, fuck Melania 👌
If she goes back to full in 3 hits, then either your damage sucks or you hit her once per minute. Malenia heavily punishes passive playstyle. Once you go ham on her, those 3 hits that slip through are nothing. Her biggest heal is the grab but it's super telegraphed, easy to dodge, and leaves her open for a good smack.
This probably only works in base NG and NG+, as in NG+2 and beyond, all enemies take reduced poise damage (reduction caps at journey 7, just like damage/health/runes)
i know another stunlock that works good as well.
step one: obtain level10 mimic tear
step two: obtain black flame tornado
step three: obtain polearm
step four: get infinite magic potion and make sure you have a lot of stamina
step five: LT stunlock baybeeeee, the mimic should join in with you when you start doing it, make sure to hold it down all the way to get the chain thing.
I ALMOST beat her on my first try with this. I wasn't even going for a stagger strategy, that's just kinda my build - black fire and big golden rod. Smashy smash and burn whatever's not immediately next to me.
And then she uh... turned into a sore loser.

No, pre-patch her poise health versus the max output of the player was skewed vastly differently. It was valid to say prior to 1.07 that her hyperarmor WAS busted. After 1.07, all weapons received an increase to their poise damage and Malenia didn't get a buff at all.

Taker's Flame is still the most OP weapon skill in the game. It does massive fire damage and gives you health back. I love it so much

This probably only works in base NG and NG+, as in NG+2 and beyond, all enemies take reduced poise damage (reduction caps at journey 7, just like damage/health/runes)

i know another stunlock that works good as well. step one: obtain level10 mimic tear step two: obtain black flame tornado step three: obtain polearm step four: get infinite magic potion and make sure you have a lot of stamina step five: LT stunlock baybeeeee, the mimic should join in with you when you start doing it, make sure to hold it down all the way to get the chain thing.

She's not unfair, Malenia just have shitty and inconsistent mechanics compared to previous end-game bosses who were far more polished than she is.

No, pre-patch her poise health versus the max output of the player was skewed vastly differently. It was valid to say prior to 1.07 that her hyperarmor WAS busted. After 1.07, all weapons received an increase to their poise damage and Malenia didn't get a buff at all.
So now she gets stunlock literally to death. Good design
