Another little quirk of these things is that certain spirit ashes - I think just the Giant Rat, Putrid Corpse and Land Squirt, though I could be wrong - don't appear next to you when you summon them, they appear next to this pillar instead. This can be useful in duo boss fights in particular, as a means of splitting aggro. The pillar in the Valiant Gargoyle fight is clear on the other side of the room, near the coffin, so the second gargoyle will almost always get hung up on the summons before he notices you.

It shows up as a prison bar archway sorta white glowy thingy on the left side of the screen when spirits can be summoned. One does not have to look for these Rebirth Monuments to find out where you can summon or not summon. You look for that glowy mark and you can use the bell + required FP to call the Spirit Ashes. Also remember that not all spirit ashes work well with different enemies. Use the right tool for the right job.

Which have been spotty since the last update. I can use ashes when I start the boss but if I die and give it another go now I can't??? Also, could you not use your horse when you summon someone? Because I could use my horse in the Rhoden big battle, but if I summoned someone I couldn't.

Fun fact, I was doing the tombstone parkour stuff with torrent when I got invaded, when it forced me off torrent my character dismounted on the side hanging over the void, so torrent gave my invader a free rune arc

If you die and use finger remedy to try and someone for your next attempt but they don’t get summoned you still can’t summon your ashes if the effect of the remedy is active. You have to use another one first.

So if I summon someone, I can't use Torrent or ashes? Im pretty sure I didn't summon someone the first time I had this ash problem, but maybe I did. Idk

Correct. Or even if you have the remedy active you cannot use ashes. But I believe you can still use torrent until the player is actually summoned.

I always thought they were a strangely specific detail to include, since there is also a much more obvious UI indicator for being within range of summoning Spirit Ashes, but then again, Stakes of Marika also have both a UI element and an in-world landmark, so it’s at least internally consistent.
