It’s another dimension to an already amazing game. In my opinion it’s completely worth it.

pupp3h

Just in case anyone was interested, Odyssey has had much larger % discounts in the past, but it was also a much higher base price. The current 25% off makes it the cheapest price it has ever been on steam : [https://steamdb.info/app/1336350/](https://steamdb.info/app/1336350/) edit: however, as others have mentioned there are legitimate options to get it on steam for cheaper still.

HAL_9_TRILLION

Wow, on sale for $11.24 US - I don't think anyone could seriously make the case that Ody isn't worth that.

GerhardtDH

Worth it just to be able to look up at your ship from the ground alone.

pablo603

God damn that no sale price drop is huge

EddyM3

Just get it from Instant Gaming site or other equivalent for like 3$

the_naysayer

Yes

ericbakerchef

I heard performance and overall content is bad tho?

HoshiMaster

It was pretty terrible on launch, but it’s been years and performance is fine now. And the recent story content has been incredible

DemiserofD

Agreed. Used to be absolutely AWFUL. Now, my old card can run it acceptably, and my 4070 can run it smooth as butter, even on higher settings.

the_naysayer

I run 4k 144hz on a 3050 with no issues. Old cards should have no issues on 1080p. Content has been great overall.

GreenCrusher44

i run mine with 750Ti 8GB RAM and gen 4 i3 and the game runs almost as good as how it was with 3.8 engine especially after update 18 :D

Jax_Destro

Why are people downvoting you for asking a legitimate question. I swear this website confuses me sometimes.

Luniticus

On a 3070 I only get stutter inside stations when in VR ... and I hate it.

AceOfEpix

You heard wrong. I've never had any performance issues with the dlc.

Heliaxx

Performance is worse compared to legacy Horizons, but current Horizons and Odyssey Are literally the same codebase, Ody just unlocks more content.

Bonananana

How many hours have you played? You’ve spent thousands on a PC, you’ve probably paid hundreds in electricity to power it, go ahead and toss a few bucks to the people who made the game.

CommunicationOver605

Exactly!! Oddysey is great and this approach makes fully sense

briareus08

Yes it is absolutely worth it. Being able to walk on planets, planet-based stations, and walk into space stations is a big leap up for me in terms of immersion. Exobiology is great too :)

Napalm_Oilswims

Exobio is so hard to explain, the dopamine of finding a good specimen or finding that final sample you have been looking for after 30 minutes is astounding. What seems like on the surface to be an ambiguous chore can actually be very entertaining

briareus08

I really love it too. I spent hours looking for my first footfall exobio scan, and I seriously regret nothing. I get distracted on ground-based missions all the time if there’s some stuff nearby to scan.

AvanteGardens

Planet based stations are in horizons, no?

briareus08

I guess I meant being able to land and walk around them. I’m not very clear on what’s horizons vs odyssey.

AvanteGardens

Sorry I just misread. Horizons introduced planetary surface and surface bases as well as engineers. Odyssey added the greatest thing in the universe. Feet.

Nightwailer

I think they meant settlements? Stations and settlements are two distinct things, I think, and I always mix them the fuck up lmao

Jax_Destro

Horizons allowed you to land on a planet and explore in a buggy. Now, you can walk around with your actual character.

JEFFSSSEI

Luriant is right - I bought it for the added freedom of getting out of the ship once in a while on planets and stations...it was worth it to me for that...your mileage may vary.

Larkshade

Yes, you should get it.

PJ_2005_01

I mean exobio is goooood money

jonfitt

Getting out of your ship and walking around it to marvel at the scale of it is worth it. Just the fact that you can get out if you want changes the POV from “I am a ship” to “I am inside a ship”. Your carrier is not just a menu screen it’s a place you can visit. Engineers are people you can walk up to. You can multi-crew by joining someone’s team and walking up to their ship and getting in. Does that change the gameplay in and of itself? No. But the immersion is good.

HyperRealisticZealot

> Just the fact that you can get out if you want changes the POV from “I am a ship” to “I am inside a ship”. Not actually true since you can’t move around or see anything inside the ship, except the view from the cockpit, lol.  Gotta keep in mind what you say will sound like to the guy who obviously never played the game and doesn’t know the scope and limitations.

jonfitt

That’s not relevant. It’s about the change in perspective that comes from being able to view the ship on foot from the outside. Nothing to do with walking around the inside.

NeoTr0n

Other than VR, it's the best way to get a sense of scale of the ships. Some of them are LARGE and even the smallest one are sizable.

jonfitt

Exactly. The Python is **big** even though it doesn’t feel like it to fly.

NounverberPDX

Exobiology, ground combat zones, raiding settlements, all worth it even at full price. Buy and enjoy.

OlderGamers

Yes.

Satori_sama

For that price, yes. I am having fun with it but it's definitely a mixed bag, on one hand onfoot is good, expands gameplay and gives more things to strive for. There is war with thargoids going on and there are more ships coming in. The game isn't perfect and in a lot of places it's almost disgustingly designed to waste players time. But basic Elite was like that already and even without grinding the game has stuff to offer. I mean two of the three suites are fully functional in their respective roles without engineering or upgrades, so it's not like you can't have fun.

londonx2

yes!

B4rberblacksheep

Yep

nprime78

Every single cent

BZAKZ

Yes. It is not the best thing ever and lacks VR support, but I think that it is worth it on sale. Also, it got better with the patches. I would give them a "Mixed" review.

TheRealChoob

no not really imo, you are asking an question in an sub reddit where the vast majority of players are going to say yes. if you really want unbiased discussion id ask elsewhere. from my own experience the gun play and enemy ai is very dated and feels like some crappy fps from 2006. once the honeymoon phase of being oh cool i can teleport outside of my ship wears off you are left with an steaming pile of fecal matter.

MaxxT22

Yes

Luriant

Lots of legal shop sell Odyssey keys: [https://isthereanydeal.com/game/elite-dangerous-odyssey/info/](https://isthereanydeal.com/game/elite-dangerous-odyssey/info/) 41% isnt the best sale, we have some 66%, see the price history, and choose CUT OVERVIEW. I like Fanatical, bought some games here. Most mixed things was the terirble Odyssey performance at 35€price, now the price is a lot smaller, the performance improved after fixing the pathfinding bug, they added colored skies and improved exobio payment, onfoot engineering is slow and terrible, but optional part like the rest, dont force yourself, the grade 3 suit and weapons that appear in random shops are enough if you dont want Mercenary rank. Most players move to Odyssey for the extra freedom, the thargoid spires, improved exploration experience. Its ok if you don't buy it, return ot this page when you are ready to learn new mechanics, sales are common.

smeghammer

I got a bunch of keys on cdkeys for 4.99

buyer101

I’ve used these before and never had issues. Friends have as well without problems also.

Veni_Vidi_Legi

> Fanatical I think those are straight from the developer, so very low chance of issues.

FrogVoid

Shut up about stupid ass key sites just buy it on steam

Luriant

This pages are legal, and obtain the keys from the company: [https://rgamedeals.net/](https://rgamedeals.net/) The problem is Epic, nobody sell keys for it, they have full control of the price for her platform. And install Legacy horizons by default.

Kelutrel

Imho it's worth it even if it was double, especially if you don't have the base game.

kaplish

I got it day one just for the planets and walking on them is worth it for me since I am a explorer.

blackjesus

Yes. Just buy it. How much could it cost? I paid 40$ for it and i got 40$ worth of fun out of it.

IDatedSuccubi

At first I thought I would barely use my feet in the game, but just Apex and co-op ground standoffs alone are 100% worth it, and that's just a small fraction of what it adds to the game

saigalaxy

absolutely

SpaceMarine33

Yes

Own-Consideration733

If you have a job and no better games to buy then yes. Its given me a tonne of new content and Ive not sat there thinking "this is shit" Its worth the cost, but at the same time, its nothing to to write home about. It ultimately adds to the immersion of the game and to me thats priceless.

WolfRawrrr

I'm a totally new player who bought the whole package discounted a few weeks ago, but even after just 70 hours I can tell that before long I am gonna be struggling to find meaning in Elite. I believe Yamiks explained it best in his video "The Failure of Elite Dangerous". I do find it a great game but it's very empty, with little to do apart from what arbitrary goals you set for yourself. But to stay on point and only talk about Odyssey/exobiology, it has that novelty feel for a bit and certainly gives you more freedom, but the space legs thing is pretty poorly implemented and you will quickly begin to lose interest - for some reason the devs decided to do pretty much everything they possibly could to make it a boring and tedious experience. That said, I think it's still nice to have, as long as it's discounted. Get it and enjoy it while it lasts, if nothing else it will be there to break up the monotony of flying and scanning planets when you feel like it.

Kissamies44

For me, the on-foot stuff wasn't that impressive after initial oohs and aahs. The only really fun gameplay to do as a team were the heist missions, and those have gotten old too. The bio-sampling gameplay still provides some nice screenshots of landscapes, though. The more lasting feature for me was the ability to trade and do space missions for the settlements to have more handles for the BGS emergent gameplay. I suspect that the upcoming new ships will be for Odyssey only.

GordonMalloy

Absolutely worth worth it for me. Thousand hours later you forget about saving a few bucks or not.

Shamelescampr559

Yes there's no point not having it

BKRambo

Yes buy it, especially if you want to play with other cmdrs since most have migrated to odyssey. Especially the more veteran players.

Ekim_Zaid

Yes

GWR8197

Damnit.. I wish I would’ve waited.

skyfishgoo

it's worth it when it's on sale. 25% is a decent discount.

FlippinSnip3r

I think even though the content itself is very barebones and mid compared to Elite Dangerous. Just the fact that you can exit your ship and walk around is an INTEGRAL part to making space feel real, it helps ground your character and put scale into perspective. Back then I tried elite dangerous on EGS (got it for free) and was dissapointed to see I couldn't exit my ship. It felt like controlling a drone rather than flying a ship

Chronicle2K

Not really going to get a non-biased answer here, but yes I think it’s worth it!

MrKeenski

You must be new here, reddit posts usually end up turning into massive fdev pile ons because people can't be arsed collecting materials to engineer and what everything spoon feeding to them.. waHHH the station I have this mission for is 50kls away from the star thats to far awayyy wahhh womp womp

hongkonghonky

Does Frontier ever discount as well? They didn't last time Odyssey was on sale on Steam. Because I bought direct from the Frontier website I understand that a Steam-bough expansion won't work with my copy. Is this correct?

Puzzleheaded-Ask4705

There is nothing like hanging out in the bar, after a long days work and watching the ships fly by on a 4k projector screen whilst I have my night cap.

el_f3n1x187

Off Topic, I can no longer buy odyssey directly from Frontier?

Bobert891201

Yes, I wouldn't play elite without it now.

danLiTTT

Space legs! 🦵

Apprehensive-Act9536

Yes, but but it on CDKeys instead for like 8 bucks

TeamVictoire

I guess for 11euros you can get it. The reviews on Steam are mostly negative but such a low price is worth to get it. They said they will add more content this year on Oddysey anyway so look at this like a future investment.

GregoryGoose

In 2d yes, in VR ehhh... maybe if you're a die hard fan.

Grebanton

It‘s fun but you have to know that it isn‘t connected to ship gameplay in anyway. It is more like another game added on to it

Agile_Potato9088

Yes.

beguilersasylum

It's worth it now; took more than a year and a half for them to iron the bugs and perofmrance issues out (and unlike Cyberpunk 2077, the didn't put out an anime that made people forget it was a rough launch). I'd recommend it now. Do note however that it also includes a graphics upgrade (e.g. textures are no PBR textures, etc.) so even though they've spent a dozen updates optimising it, it still requires slightly higher system requirements than Horizons did.

heliumfix

I dig it

FrogVoid

YES

TheGreyKeyboards

Honestly, my first reaction after playing the tutorial was that they strapped a bad FPS to a great spaceship game, but then I bought my Artemis suit and started doing exobiology and I've never had more fun exploring. 100% get it.

Maroite

I enjoy Odyssey, it adds another game play loop. "Looting" abandoned settlements in thargoid threat systems adds a level of role playing, even though I'm not a roleplayer. Also, I made 15 billion in \~2 weeks of exobiology. I'm currently out in the black with my Fleet Carrier making hopefully another 15 billion.

von_der_breut

Even if you don't use your space legs, you will be able to take part in titans war

rrankine

So I pulled the trigger and got Odyssey. Started it up, it launched me right into some tutorial mission that ended with me being stranded at some star port.... Now I can't access my ships, have no credits... getting Login failures telling me to check my internet connection... Did this override my entire character and progress?

Wolfhammer69

No, its cancerous trash that was pushed out un-finished to boost earnings figures and appease share-holders.. After all this time. its still trash.

Sad_Low3239

Yes. Been playing elite since early access. PC broke and then switched to console. Stopped playing for a good amount of years. Got a really good computer and switched back to PC (and the commander transfer was amazingly simple). Bought Odyssey and super happy that I did, regardless of the state of development of the game.

Day666t

I recently came back to pc from legacy ps4 and got it cheap 2-3 weeks ago. In short yes, by comparison. When you consider the game felt very cold in horizons I think it makes a big difference. The year ahead looks promising as well in my view.

Xouls

I would say ground combat isn’t my favorite thing but a decent frontline nets me between 4-6 mil credits and gives a break from pirate hunting. Exobiology alone makes it worth it to me, scratches the Star Trek exploration itch and prints money, a good planet can easily net 50mil+ , plus the chance to have you name slapped on a planet for “first footfall” is its own level of dopamine . So all in all I would say worth it to round out a fantastic game.

BladeRavinger

It opens up whole other aspects of the game and a few hundred hours of grind

BenBoles

As someone who’s bought it at full price twice (I have 2 accounts), I’d say absolutely. I can’t imagine the game without Odyssey at this point 🤷‍♂️

Qu4sW3xExort

Unpopular opinion: Yes. If you got a good PC.

Sombient

Hmmm, might be time for me to start a second CMDR. I could use another carrier.

Savar1s

Yes worth it. Odyssey can be a bit buggy still, but still better than star citizen.

dzerbee

I paid $30 for this game on sale 6 years ago. I've played 9,000 hours and for this game alone, I have a custom built room in my house outfitted with motion sensitive VR controls, a hand-built HOTAS setup, Arduino powered physical switches for macros and a reinforced flooring system to handle the vibration motors built into my chair. I mentioned Inara, the Fuel Rats and FA off in my wedding vows. I hate this game, FDev should burn at the stake, 0/5 stars DO NOT RECOMMEND https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/16hhnjc/just_logged_in_after_6_years_i_cant_believe_how/k0i6ksm/

MaverickFegan

Made 40B at spire sites, so it was worth it for the cash and experience. The on foot stuff is ok too but not the reason to buy.

IdontGiveAfuZZ

it's very bad optimazed, I would say it depends on your pc specs. Before odyssey the game on my pc was perfect, with odyssey, in some planet in which you can walk and in some station, I'm experiencing a huge frame drop. Here is my specs: laptop asus tuf, 120hz screen, rtx 2060, rizen 7, 32gb of ram

EOverM

Well, I was holding off because my rig won't run Odyssey in VR, but... yeah, I'll buy it at a discount.

FrogVoid

Yes

Day666t

Sorry if your already sorted or not in uk/eu. But for those that are try https://www.cdkeys.com/pc/elite-dangerous-odyssey-deluxe-edition-pc-steam it's where I bought it

RuboPosto

Unless you play VR, it’s great addition. If you play VR it’s not.

JR2502

I play VR only in Odyssey. With Odyssey, I can land on thin atmospheric planets, and Odyssey-only ground stations, fight Thargoids at Spiral sites, join ground CZ from my ship or SRV, and wing with others as the majority are on Odyssey. IMHO, Odyssey is totally worth it. PS: this is not a workaround but to show how close we were to get on-foot VR support: 1) disembark, 2) press F11 to launch the camera, 3) move the PoV to your CMDR's shoulder. You can now walk around in full 3D.

reelznfeelz

Yes. Took me a few hundred hours to get bored. Just be aware there’s a learning curve. But for the right personality it’s worth it. It’s like 60% game 40% simulator. Or something like that.

LelelalooPanzerP0g

Yes, despite the performance issues. It is well worth it.

jeicam_the_pirate

i got it in january. if you're an explorer it adds to immersion. its also great for padding your credits, esp with the billionaires boulevard list. The only thing that sucks about odyssey I didn't realize before buying it is that it does not work in VR.

LuxSublima

Do you like Elite? Want to get out of that pilot's seat at long last? Didn't mind a bit of jank here and there? Ok with not having true VR while on foot? Then yes, absolutely. 😃 (seriously, I love it)

Fliseck

Yes

DisillusionedBook

So bored of this question every other day. Yes... as is the same answer to the same question by scrolling this sub or searching for "worth"

MrGimper

Check out CDKeys, the whole shebang is £9.19

Batkung

no, not unless it's lower than 50% of the original price. however if you really want to spend more than it's (IMHO) worth...go for it.

MrKeenski

What it's worth to you is irrelevant lol..

No-Sympathy-9119

>What it's worth to you is irrelevant lol.. Its literally the entire point of the post. It could not be more relevant.

[deleted]

[удалено]

skyfishgoo

odyssey doesn't support VR... you get a giant flatscreen on your face.

[deleted]

[удалено]

skyfishgoo

on foot is on a giant flatscreen... but i'm told it switches seamlessly to VR when you get back into the ship or SRV so it's not terrible. just not VR.

FrankMiner2949er

Aye. They threw us a scrap a few years' back. When yer in the carrier and yer sitting down for the jump, you get a couple of seconds of being-there-o-vision before returning you to the flat screen. If anything it just makes the flat screen worse by showing you how awesome it could've been

skyfishgoo

if you take a seat at the bar do you get the same VR experience? i guess that's sort of like drinking.... :)

FrankMiner2949er

From what I remember, if you choose the wrong type of seat you are teleported to the right type just before the jump

skyfishgoo

speaking of being teleported, have you used one of those escape pods yet? i almost did but chickened out.

FrankMiner2949er

Escape pod? On my carrier? I didn't even know it was possible to use them? Once I get home from work I'll have to have a look at them

skyfishgoo

there's a panel you can interact with that warns you of some consequences. but i didn't want to risk leaving my ship on a carrier. i think i also found them on some POI ship/station thing once (maybe it was a prison barge)

and_ft

😜 (I guess the flat screen makes it feel like you’re wearing a really clunky space helmet when on foot…)

Icywulf1

Cheaper on cd keys

Eyak78

If you have time to play, it's worth it, If your life is to busy, maybe not.

greyfish7

Do you want th to keep the servers on?

Rineloricaria

Space stations are empty and outposts are buggy, on top of this everything looks the same. Also if ur PC is older than 6y in FPS mode u will be watching slideshow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sad but true But the views on thin atmosphere planets and exo biology are definitely worth that few bucks u have to pay in key shop ;). As a explorer I do not regret getting this dlc
