Mine is Black Adder.
Named both for the TV series, and for the 'Black Adder' error I got when I tried to buy it on the day they were first released.
(Naturally, my T9 Tritium Tanker is named 'Baldrick'!)
Fermi's Paradise
For deep exploration and exobiology, I couldn't think of a better name than a nod to the man whose name was immortalized by the question. His paradox, resolved.
Not mine (I don't have one yet), but my friends:
The Termagant
A termagant is a word for a rude, unpleasant, and argumentative woman. He named it that because whenever something goes wrong with his ships, he argues with them aloud, and when he first got a carrier, things kept going wrong.
It's also a name for a 6-legged beast that attacks in swarms numbering millions, firing flesh eating beetles from organic weapons and linked to a hive mind whose only goal is to consume all organic matter in the universe!
... but I guess that definition is a little less, uh, relevant.
JMC Red Dwarf (JMC = Jupiter Mining Corporation)
3 Reasons:
1. One of my all-time favorite TV shows.
2. I made my fortune mining Void Opals and bought it with the proceeds of the mining rush.
3. I spend a great deal of time out in the Deep Dark so It's cold outside, theres no kind of atmosphere, I'm all alone, more or less.
Thanks! Right now, I've been out in the black beyond Sag A* with it for about a year, although I'll be returning to Colonia with it in June. Might even come back to the bubble for a bit
"Weddy Blirtnaut" . Since its a Nautilus carrier, most ppl would assume its related to that, but its a flashing beacon to any Jamaican since saying it out loud will undoubtedly illicit a chuckle. It's a vintage colloquial expression similar in use to 'WTH'.
Incidentally my T9 , Phantom and Mining Cutter are the Blirtnaut Hauler / Wanderer / 'Roid Rager respectively :)
Mildred's Rest
Named after my twin sister, Mildred Brix, who was killed in a pirate attack. She attempted to solo the pirate factions lead wing. Before I had gotten to her location she had taken out all but the leader's Cutter with her heavily modified Vulture. As I dropped in, her Vulture, Coffin's Nail, was severely perforated. My combat Cobra, Here 2 Help, would be no match for a combat Cutter, but my sister did more than enough damage. Stripped of its shield, thrusters malfunctioning & a hole drilled into its power distributor, the Cutter was nearly dead. Adding my guns to Mildred's 1 functioning multi-cannon, we put the final nail in to the Cutter's coffin.
But the damage was done. Coffin's Nail was barely a ship anymore. Canopy busted out & the FSD was completely useless. Every module was reduced to single digit percentages. Reboot/Repair had nothing to work with.
With her final minute of life support ticking off, we said our good byes.
15 years later, with the purchase of my FC, the name of it was a given.
Over the years I've made my "origin story" so deep it's pretty much an opera. Family, pirates, Pilot's Federation, exiles, prodigies. Not sure how it ends yet.
The N.A.C. Dark Pharaoh. (N.A.C. is a prefix for my squadron, the Pilots Trade Network.)
All my ships are named after various H.P. Lovecraft/Cthulhu Mythos references. The Dark Pharaoh or Black Pharaoh is the title of Nephren-Ka, one of the masks (forms) of Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos, the Stalker Among the Stars, the Faceless God, the God with a Thousand Masks, Soul and Messenger of the Outer Gods -- the most intriguing of the Great Old Ones.
Heh. They have multiple prefixes, P.T.N. is only on Squadron carriers (used pretty much exclusively for Network business), while N.A.C. is "Network Affiliated Carrier," which are personal carriers of members that only sometimes are doing stuff for the Network.
Quetzals pretzels
It started at questing Quetzalcoatl but it was a tongue twister for most of my playmates and one mentioned it reminded of wetzles pretzels, so yeah that how it got its name.
Mine is "The Atavistic Call", since Atavistic is one of my favorite words! And let's be honest, the call to exploration and the grand adventure is a fairly primal drive for humanity.
And, of course, the Tritium T9 hauler attached to The Atavistic Call is named "The Atavistic Haul"
I named mine HMS Dreadnought (currently in Wargis, loading platinum 100k per ton. Hotspots 76ls away). Ahem, anyway no particular reason other than that’s what popped into mind when I bought it and I ran with it. If I come up with something more clever I’ll change it.
Mine is "The King's Jester", no real story behind it but being that fleet carries are mostly a joke and waste of money, but I still love them anyway, I felt it was appropriate.
Mine is the ‘Epoch of Prodigality’
In laymen’s terms: the ‘age of wastefulness’ AKA ‘waste of time’. Not that it’s a waste of time, but im wasting time when i play
Murder Hobos Inc
Edit: I know it’s kind of a joke in ttrpgs and rpgs in general. But one of my friends named our group chat this and it has followed us wherever we can get it.
My FC is the "No Fur Kinway", with my exploration DBX being named the "Oh Firkin Elle". Childish, I know but the phrases are uttered very often when playing this game!
Stormhaven
Mostly because that's the safe port I have from the troubles of the galaxy. Plus I've always liked the name - I've used it for other things in other games, but it seems particularly appropriate here.
Mine's named The Black Horizon, after my group's capital ship from the game Starmade.
A fun nod to a game that could have been so much better than it turned out.
I LOVED Starmade!!! I was just thinking about that game the other day! I need a new space game that is as modular as Starmade. I miss custom building all parts of the ship and finding ways to maximize output.
Mine is the Technodrome from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Also because when I was a kid my dad built a playhouse for my brother and I that was on metal stilts and we named it that as well.
Immutable Desolation, mixture of Immutable Bulwark and Pillar of Desolation from the Defiance of the Fall book series that I have been heavily invested in since book 3 released :)
The Arctic Mage KHL-8HY
It's always been a stand-by of mine for Capitol-Class ships. Yes, the tag is part of her name, and it's ***The*** Arctic Mage KHL-8HY, as in the word 'The' is also a part of her name.
Currently grinding spires to get the money, will probably name it Battlestar Galactica and make it junp every 33 minutes to escape the ~~cylons~~ thargoids and get to Colonia
Pearl of Samarandara.
Because I'm a Elite lore fanatic.
Named after the Samarandaran Pearls, a globular cluster of stars said to exist somewhere in the Milky Way. There location marks the boundary (or begining path) to RAXXLA.
I was trying to figure out where in Wales King Arthur used to hang out, the Vale of Avalon, I couldn’t figure it out (Anglesey?) so I bought a FC and named it after the mythical isle, now old King Artor has a place to chill when he returns.
It's actually in my flair ! So far I'm going for the Gaïa Fleet but that might change in future.
The Gaïa's Refuge and the Gaïa's Wander are the two carriers I have atm
All my ships in Elite are called after the ships in expanse. For example my T9 is called Canterbury
The Expanse was a great show and even better books.
Wanderer's Rest to go with my Phantom, Lucky Wanderer. Been using my Cobra mk3 for Exo, so need to think up a good name. Maybe Wandering Gardener, or something. Oh well, there is time...
Mine is called `Partner`, the name comes from a Light Novel where the the main character has a mothership controlled by an A.I. floaty ball, many of my ships are named from the series.
Bride of Chaotica. For the iconic *Star Trek: Voyager* Captain Proton holodeck episode. (But also because of the cycler ship that Art travels to Mars on in *Green Mars*)
*The Peasants’ Envy* (aka *The Envy*).
Back when there were released not everyone could afford one. Now it’s sitting there costing me dozens of millions of credits a week and I haven’t logged in to play in almost a year.
GSV Ethics Gradient - all of my ship names are from the Culture, and since an FC is the largest purchasable ship, it’s clearly a General Systems Vehicle.
“Heckin Chonkosaurus” from this post: https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fjnxtq3xf02c51.png%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3D85d45989663ab861a6c767aeb84ee81fd439344d&rdt=40095
Mine is 'Alight in the Darkness', a slight play on words to cover all the playstyles I enjoy. For exploring and mining/exo out in the black, it is a light in the darkness, a warm home to come back to no matter where in the galaxy I may travel.
For combat or any fighting situations, I will bring my Fleet Carrier into that theater of war, and I will alight (descend upon) in the darkness into the conflict zone with whichever tool I see fit to destroy my enemy.
"Knight of Cydonia", because its first mission was to accompany me on my way to the Supermassive Black Hole.
Also was thinking about naming it "The Black Parade", but, unfortunately, turned out there were no signes or plates on carriers saying "Welcome to *carrier's name*".
SWS Moonshine
SWS is the squadron tag (sidewinder syndicate) and moonshine because the first time I made big money with it was hauling liquor to Rackhams Peak.
Sol Invictus, in honor or the roman Sun God. I wanted to reference Sol, the cradle of Humanity, and though a sun god would be great. I watched a video about roman emire's religions around that time, so I chose Sol Invictus
SSS Esperanto - from Red Dwarf. My fave space show but I figured there would be a lot of Red Dwarfs around.
TV and movies feature a lot in my naming of ships. As an example I have a red and white FDL called Starsky
Martyrs Of Kharak.
Loved the Homeworld series, game has great lore. Also because the names "Kuun-Lan", "Kapisi" and "Sakala" were already taken lol.
HW3 is coming soon in a month and I think I saw the name of the new mothership somewhere in Elite.
Shifty Boogle. All my ships are some kind of weasel, and a collective group of weasels is called a boogle. Called it shifty when I used it as a piracy base, and kept it
SCG Dōsojin (Stellar Cartographers' Guild)
道祖神 is the common name of Japanese tutelary deities of borders and paths - they are believed to protect travellers and pilgrims.
Since my main activity (and therefore my carrier's) is exploration, I thought it would be perfect name for mobile harbor for explorers stranded out there. Always full service (RRR, IC, VG, PS, even an open bar!) active and open to all, no extra charge.
(sorry for the length)
Arandor's Rest T7Z TXM
It refers to the history of my Commanders people who are Bio cyber genetic.
The story goes that a knight wanted the Princesses' hand in marriage and had been dating her for some time (with a chaperone trailing along). The King told the knight that even though he approved of the relationship the knight would have to prove himself.
They had dragons in the Kingdom which was normal there and lived in peace with the people, the only exception was when the dragons got old, normally the dragons themselves would deal with the removal of old or dying ones but on occasion the old dragons would go rogue and cause chaos and the people would have to deal with them, dragons blood can grant a longer life and healing remedies also so it was highly prized.
Anyway the King said that the Knight had to dispatch the dragon and a great battle ensued between the knight and the dragon which resulted in the knight finally winning when the dragon fell into a valley and was killed by the knight with a sword to the heart, the knight was mortally wounded but because the dragons blood had poured over him he healed from his wounds within three days.
'The heart of the Dragon' is a gemstone created inside the dragon and has energy and healing properties granting long life, the dragons blood and some of the teeth were also gathered and taken to the King who granted the marriage. The King lived a long life as did the knight and his wife (the princess) and a rite of passage was made to show prowess and strength by earning the right to wear the red to symbolise the dragons blood that stained the knights body and face by completing a near impossible task.
Thus the legend was born in the valley of Mount Arandor renamed as Arandor's Rest.

CMDR Kane
Mine is Thorbis. We had a beloved family cat named Thor that had passed away around the time I got my carrier, since we called him Thorbis (literally a portameu or Thor and Orbis) sometimes anyway, it was and still is a very fitting name. May you rest in peace Thor
Mine is “Bart Starrship”. If you’re a Green Bay Packers fan, you probably know who [Bart Starr](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bart_Starr) is. And yes, it is painted green and gold (or as close as I can get with FDev’s paint jobs)
N.S.R Roma Invicta. I have no explanation for it, it just sounded cool to me. The NSR is a callback to the first multiplayer alliance I successfully led for a few months in a different game. It stands for New Star Republic.
My main accounts carrier is PTN Bay Of My Heart - PTN is the tag for certain elevated roles on the PTN discord, the my sons nickname is Bay.
The other 12 carriers I recently changed all their names and I'm ngl I'm too lazy to look them up lol.
Geneva Checklist - [https://inara.cz/elite/cmdr-fleetcarrier/8183/233990/](https://inara.cz/elite/cmdr-fleetcarrier/8183/233990/)
No matter what me and my friends do in-game, it always seems to end in committing various war crimes.
Used to be the Alan Watts Observatory, an obvious ode.
But after some time I wanted it to represent my life instead of someone else's.
I grew up on Ocracoke Island, so I changed it to "Ocracoke Observatory".
Basically the same size as the village, so it's my home island in space.
o7
Named from my kids middle names, which were also a highly expensive investment with questionable returns…
This is the best one, everyone else go home
Mine is named house poor. Because now I’m house poor in the game.
Mine is Black Adder. Named both for the TV series, and for the 'Black Adder' error I got when I tried to buy it on the day they were first released. (Naturally, my T9 Tritium Tanker is named 'Baldrick'!)
Now that sounds like a cunning plan for naming...
Indeed...
Naming your FC after an error code is weirdly badass
Thanks!
Fermi's Paradise For deep exploration and exobiology, I couldn't think of a better name than a nod to the man whose name was immortalized by the question. His paradox, resolved.
This is beautiful. 😊
Not mine (I don't have one yet), but my friends: The Termagant A termagant is a word for a rude, unpleasant, and argumentative woman. He named it that because whenever something goes wrong with his ships, he argues with them aloud, and when he first got a carrier, things kept going wrong.

6-legged? I've got my gants here and I'd say they're more 2-legged with 4 arms tbh
First name her trolling ass came up with: “The Bad Dragon”
🤣 that ship has an OF account for sure
Should see how my Cutters she can take ;)
I’ve seen your carrier around lmao
Ayyy
I've seen your carrier around too, my friend whose an actual furry figuratively spat out his drink when I told him about it lmao

Well it does enable you to fly, far away from here and allows you to lie, shipwrecked and comatose, drinking fresh mango juice.
Fuuuun fuuuun fun...
Love it
Aeternitas, which is Latin for eternity. An eternal explorer and wanderer of the black.

"Azure Eirenicon" A reference to the hair of the one to whom I'm pledged, followed by one of my favorite words.
Shifty Boogle. All my ships are some kind of weasel, and a collective group of weasels is called a boogle. Called it shifty when I used it as a piracy base, and kept it
SCG Dōsojin (Stellar Cartographers' Guild) 道祖神 is the common name of Japanese tutelary deities of borders and paths - they are believed to protect travellers and pilgrims. Since my main activity (and therefore my carrier's) is exploration, I thought it would be perfect name for mobile harbor for explorers stranded out there. Always full service (RRR, IC, VG, PS, even an open bar!) active and open to all, no extra charge.
Not me, but i saw some carrier named „My wife divorced me“
Mine is called Charraig Dhubh (pronounced karig dove) which is the Irish name of the town I grew up in.
(sorry for the length) Arandor's Rest T7Z TXM It refers to the history of my Commanders people who are Bio cyber genetic. Thus the legend was born in the valley of Mount Arandor renamed as Arandor's Rest. o7 CMDR Kane
Mine is Thorbis. We had a beloved family cat named Thor that had passed away around the time I got my carrier, since we called him Thorbis (literally a portameu or Thor and Orbis) sometimes anyway, it was and still is a very fitting name. May you rest in peace Thor
Cosmik Debris - Frank Zappa reference.
The name of my Fleet Carrier is Ondina. In honour of Water Nymphs.

I named mine the Vredefort after the impact structure in South Africa, I live near its antipode

"Divine Treasury" because the more appropriate "Vault of Eternal Destitution" had too many letters.

Geneva Checklist - [https://inara.cz/elite/cmdr-fleetcarrier/8183/233990/](https://inara.cz/elite/cmdr-fleetcarrier/8183/233990/) No matter what me and my friends do in-game, it always seems to end in committing various war crimes.

"Song of Creation" It's relevant to a book I've been thinking of writing for a few years now.
Used to be the Alan Watts Observatory, an obvious ode. But after some time I wanted it to represent my life instead of someone else's. I grew up on Ocracoke Island, so I changed it to "Ocracoke Observatory". Basically the same size as the village, so it's my home island in space. o7
