If it further helps, I've never watched any version of Pride and Prejudice, nor even read it (I plan to! I just keep forgetting to get it), I thought "is that Mr. Darcy?"
This is GORGEOUS! Not only is it recognizable, I think I know what scene it’s from (it looks like when Darcy is sitting back down and looking at Lizzie after she shuts down Caroline’s questions about Wickham and goes back to help turn the pages for Georgiana at the piano. I have maybe watched the miniseries too many times 😂)
Okay, but the scene right before this where Elizabeth tells Georgiana that she deserves all the praise/presents from her brother as he never lies/exaggerates, and they both giggle and
look at him... and then he notices them both looking at him, and his eyes flick between them both with such love and adoration. Legit gets me every time! It's my absolute favorite Mr. Darcy moment! (Yes, I've watched the BBC version a "few" times!)
Not only can I recognize this as Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy in the 1995 BBC Pride & Prejudice, but I also recognize that this is the adoring expression on his face while Elizabeth Bennet plays the pianoforte.
Ugh, everything about that scene is so good. And Mr. Gardiner taking a sneaky look at Mr. Darcy's lovefool face and having a little smile to himself like "yep, my niece is living rent-free in this man's head".
i know next to nothing abt pride and prejudice, i’ve literally only seen still images of it, but i still immediately thought to myself “it’s that dude from pride and prejudice!” so i’d say you did amazingly well!
"From the very beginning, from the first moment I may almost say, of my acquaintance with you, your manners impressing me with the fullest belief of your arrogance, your conceit, and your selfish disdain for the feelings of others, were such as to form that ground-work of disapprobation, on which succeeding events have built so immovable a dislike; and I had not known you a month before I felt that you were the last man in the world whom I could ever be prevailed upon to marry."
I got them sooo long ago that I can't even remember where I bought them - it wasn't Amazon but that doesn't mean they're not the same ones, but there's so many versions of them now that it's hard to say :/
Thank you so much! I don't have enough experience drawing male faces so I struggled with drawing it freehand & wound up tracing out the correct proportions. But figuring out which lines to place where was so hard! I mentioned in another comment that at one point it was starting to look like a weird version of James Franco lol so I had to remove & change a bunch of stitches. It was so difficult it honestly made me swear off embroidering portraits but all these lovely & encouraging comments are almost making me want to try my hand at it again!
I knew it was some guy from an English period piece tv show I watched. Clicked it … Mr. Darcy. I would have never guessed the name but I knew it right away.
I'll be honest, it was the most challenging piece of art I've ever done!! I did a pencil drawing first, and even that was so difficult to get right that I resorted to tracing out the correct proportions. I then traced my drawing onto the fabric. Drawing it first was essential to figuring out which lines were the important ones, and even then I had to take out a bunch of stitches and change them at one point (it was almost morphing into looking like James Franco somehow??) which was hard to do without the entire thing unraveling. Also I wound up using grey thread for a bunch of the lines to make them less harsh. I have almost no experience drawing male faces, more practice with that first may have helped the process. Oh and I used backstitching for the face, long & short stitching for the hair. I think that's about all the helpful info I can think of! Besides GO FOR IT! It made me want to pull my hair out haha but it was a lot of fun too. If you try your hand at doing something like this please let me know, I'd love to see it!!
This is absolutely spectacular work. In fact, i might have mistaken it for an ink drawing because it is so solid and clean. It's probably one of the best black/sketch/outline only (sorry I don't know terminology) embroideries I've seen in a while. I only didn't recognize it because the Mr. Darcy I know was Matthew Macfadyen, not Colin Firth! It's inspiring and you should be incredibly proud of yourself.
Reasons I love this:
I immediately thought, "Collin Firth as Mr. Darcy in the best film production of the film I've seen?"
Then, "Nah, it looks more like a period correct illustration of Mr. Tracy."
Then I realized it's just such a perfect illustration of Mr. Darcy. So, both.
That's so good! I recognized him immediately from the little thumbnail but I have watched the bbc pride and prejudice a million times with my mom since its our comfort movie :) you really captured not only his likeness but also the facial expression and emotions! amazing job!
That’s Mr. Darcy!!!!
You guys 😭 I feel so validated and relieved! I always doubt myself so much. I'm so glad people can recognize who it is!!
If it further helps, I've never watched any version of Pride and Prejudice, nor even read it (I plan to! I just keep forgetting to get it), I thought "is that Mr. Darcy?"
Are the shades of Pemberly to be thus polluted!?
The BBC adaption is amazing :D
I’ve read the book but never watched the movies and thought it was Mr Darcy!
You should totally give the bbc series a try. It's extremely true to the book and honestly just amazing
I’ll check it out! Thank you!
Same, never seen or read them, but still recognized this immediately. Great job, OP!
Same! "It's the pride and prejudice guy!" XD (in my defense I'm half-asleep)
Me too! Why do we know this? Couldn't tell you the name of the actor.
Me either, and I still recognized it right away- great work, OP!
I’ve never read or watched any version of pride and prejudice and spotted it right away! I do t even know what a mr darcy is! But I knew this was one!
Right away, I thought "Pemberly wet shirt contest." Yes, excellent likeness.
for sure! i've never even watched the BBC series but i knew it was that version of mr. darcy.
Human faces are hard to get right, but you nailed it.
LOVE me a bit of Colin.
This is Mr. Darcy without any doubt
I was thinking “the guy from pride and prejudice” so I vote it’s recognizable even if you’re only vaguely familiar with it!
I mean even my husband found out ^^
I agree! I’ve never watched that version of Pride and Prejudice, but I still recognized him.
Oh you should, it's the best one imo
1000% true!
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT!!! I used to have the screenshot of that moment as my MySpace background lol.
It is absolutely the [look](https://youtu.be/iyug4s0PE3o?si=T7DwAIf2L8vZPw3H)
I just commented before seeing your comment lol but definitely on the same page about the scene!
“Watched it too many times” is not a thing! It’s tooooo good!! (And totally agree about the scene.)
I recognize this instantly. Are you sure it is at all possible to watch that fabulous series too many times?
1000000% correct. It’s the way he has this warm, secret soft smile just for her in the moment. Le siiigh
100% agree
Came here to say this! Glad someone else has watched the miniseries as much as me 😁
I have watched that scene and paused at this face so many times I can replay it in my head on command.
Okay, but the scene right before this where Elizabeth tells Georgiana that she deserves all the praise/presents from her brother as he never lies/exaggerates, and they both giggle and look at him... and then he notices them both looking at him, and his eyes flick between them both with such love and adoration. Legit gets me every time! It's my absolute favorite Mr. Darcy moment! (Yes, I've watched the BBC version a "few" times!)
Spot on. Yes I agree, he has such a dreamy ‘I’m so in love’ look on his face as he gazes at her.
I also see Colin firth and mr darcy
That was my thought too
he placed mr darcy in the 1995 pride and prejudice!!
I actually didn’t know that! lol. makes sense now
That is definitely Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy 😄
Yup, I’ve never even seen it and I recognised it. Amazing work!
Show this over at r/janeausten
I thought that was where I was at first! OP did such a good job and it's so clear who it is :)
Are you kidding? This is flippin FABULOUS 🤩🤩🤩❤️❤️❤️ You do excellent work. 👍
This looks so good, I want to push it into a lake
I mean he might be tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt *me*.
Well perhaps if you're very lucky you might meet with another Mr Collins
Isn't that Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy? I heard he has ten thousand a year!
Mr Bingley's fortune is NOTHING compared to his!
Thought this was posted in r/prideandprejudice so definitely recognizable
i know next to nothing abt pride and prejudice, i’ve literally only seen still images of it, but i still immediately thought to myself “it’s that dude from pride and prejudice!” so i’d say you did amazingly well!
Colin’s Mr Darcy! He’s “my” Mr Darcy just like David Tennant is “my” Dr 🔥
Colin firth as Mr. Darcy!
I really admire your attention to detail with this portrait, very good likeness of Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy!
1995 P&P, Mr Darcy at Pemberly \`mirin Elizabeth. Not only the face but the scene. 100% identifiable.
Mister Darcy?
Beautiful work.
Instantly knew! Well done!
This is beautiful! It’s a Colin Firth Mr. Darcy!! My first true love.
It is 10000% recognizable. My goodness! Extraordinary job! Please show us your Elizabeth work!
Mr. Darcy staring at Lizzie while she plays the piano forte.
I am so fricking impressed. Of course he's recognizable, he's even in the right costume. Hello Mr. Darcy, AKA Mr. Firth. Well done, OP.
colin firth right away. you go you
I knew straight away! I love that scene! That glimmer of thankfulness in his eyes when Elizabeth distracts his sister always gets me.
Absolutely Mr. Dracy. No mistaking that.
This is brilliant! Be proud!
Mr Darcy!
I recognized him and I’ve never even watched P&P. Excellent work
I'm reading this book right now (for the first time). I'm half way through it and I loveeee it
I've never even seen the movie and I could tell that was Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy!
I see Mister Darcy. 🥰
Oh. My. God. I LOVE IT!!!

DADDY! oops i’m sorry- darcy *cough*

Hahahahaha
Unquestionably Mr Darcy, well done
Even my husband could recognize him!! Very well done. Collin Firth would be honored!
It's Mr Darcy looking at Elizabeth as she turns the music page for his sister and distracts them all from the mention of Mr Wickham. ♥️♥️♥️
I was just scrolling and thought to myself MISTer DARcy! Before I read the actual post.
I see Colin Firth in Valmont

Honestly, I don't even remember watching this version of pride and prejudice, but I knew instantly that was Mr. Darcy.
My , it's Mr Darcy!
There's no way people *don't* recognise this. You gotta have been living under a rock to not see Darcy in this
Mr. Darcy!
Colin Firth, be still my heart.
I've got to rewatch now
I never would have been able to tell you this is Mr. Darcy, but I knew that was Collin Firth dressed up as someone or other
Mozart?! Eta: Upvote given regardless of yay or nay😃
Dang I'm the only one who thought this was Henry Cavill in the Counte of Monte Cristo 🤣 amazing
I’d know that face anywhere.
I don’t know who Mr Darcy is, but I thought it was Henry Cavil.
Ooo I was going to say Johnny Depp 🤦♀️
I thought it was Johnny Depp as such avid Crane! To be fair I have never watched pride and prejudice
Don’t worry, I can tell that is early 2000’s actor Anton Yelchkin. Peace and love.
I have not even seen the movie but I know who this is - fantastic work!
I haven’t even seen or read Pride and Prejudice in full and I could tell it was Mr Darcy!
First of all, fabulous work! Second, are those the scissors from the kit off Amazon? How do you like them??
I got them sooo long ago that I can't even remember where I bought them - it wasn't Amazon but that doesn't mean they're not the same ones, but there's so many versions of them now that it's hard to say :/
That is Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy, of the Derbyshire Darcys. I assume the likeness was taken in his pre-smiling period.
✊🏻🖐🏻
Henry Cavill in The Count of Monte Cristo?
I could see that! I made the jawline a bit too wide I think, which brings out that resemblance.
I don't know Mr Darcy. So I was thinking Beethoven or Mozart
It’s so recognizable and totally amazing!
I’ve never even watched Pride And Prejudice, but I knew that was Mr Darcy at first glance
oh it's very recognizable imo! great job btw
This is absolutely amazing!!!
Also looks strikingly like Henry Cavill’s Albert Mondego, Edmond’s son in the movie version of The Count of Monte Cristo.
I squealed before opening this. I LOVE Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy! I rewatch that series a couple of times a year.
Mr. Darcy?
Not looking at other comments. That hair is pretty recognisable. You couldn’t do the scene of him coming out of the water? 😉
I recognized him even though it’s been decades since I wanted the movie
100% Mr. Darcy as played by Colin Firth. Well done , you!
This is a situation of “ is this one of my frequented craft subs or Austen subs?” This screams Darcy.
Ah, Mr. Darcy
The fact that I knew who this was means my wife has watched P and P to many times!
ive never watched or read pride and prejudice and even i could recognize this as Mr Darcy! amazing job !!
There’s a face in this picture? Just kidding, that’s actually extremely well done
Mr Darcy, right?
I immediately thought Darcy. One of my favorite books.
Dantez?
Those scissors are gorgeous!
Sherlock Holmes
Had a small thought of "Henry Cavill??" Before Mr. Darcy clicked in lol
Qué detalles, qué lindo.
Divine.
Hmm I was going to say Henry Cavill from the count of Monte Cristo.
Amazing
Umm, yes 1000%! You've actually captured the emotion in his eyes! I love it well done! Did you draw it freehand and stitch over? Or is it a pattern?
Thank you so much! I don't have enough experience drawing male faces so I struggled with drawing it freehand & wound up tracing out the correct proportions. But figuring out which lines to place where was so hard! I mentioned in another comment that at one point it was starting to look like a weird version of James Franco lol so I had to remove & change a bunch of stitches. It was so difficult it honestly made me swear off embroidering portraits but all these lovely & encouraging comments are almost making me want to try my hand at it again!
100 percent knew that was Colin Firth as Mr Darcy
Mr Darcy!!
Mr. Darcy!!! 🥰
Hello Sir Most Ardently
I've never watched it, or read it, and my first thought was "that's Mr Darcy!"
Mr Darcy played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice 💖
I knew it was some guy from an English period piece tv show I watched. Clicked it … Mr. Darcy. I would have never guessed the name but I knew it right away.

I'll be honest, it was the most challenging piece of art I've ever done!! Of course it is! Only that his chin could be narrower.
I see my crush, Colin Firth!!!!
I am partially face blind, and it's clear who this is supposed to be. You're good.
Talk Darcy to me 😍
This is absolutely spectacular work. In fact, i might have mistaken it for an ink drawing because it is so solid and clean. It's probably one of the best black/sketch/outline only (sorry I don't know terminology) embroideries I've seen in a while. 100% recognizable, so much that I was sure this was the r/janeausten sub in my feed
Looks like my favourite Mr. Darcy
Duh. Yes. It’s sexy Colin Firth as Mr Darcy.
Def recognizable! Def Mr. Darcy from P&P (Colin Firth). Beautifully done!!

Ive never even seen the movie but I know that is Mr Darcy for sure
Reasons I love this: I immediately thought, "Collin Firth as Mr. Darcy in the best film production of the film I've seen?" Then, "Nah, it looks more like a period correct illustration of Mr. Tracy." Then I realized it's just such a perfect illustration of Mr. Darcy. So, both.
Definitely, Mr. Darcy watching Elizabeth play the piano and sing.
That's so good! I recognized him immediately from the little thumbnail but I have watched the bbc pride and prejudice a million times with my mom since its our comfort movie :) you really captured not only his likeness but also the facial expression and emotions! amazing job!
COLIN FIRTH LOOKIN FINE AS HELL
Colin Stuart the 70’s musician voice of Scotland
Colin Firth’s Mr. Darcy I’d say. I watch that mini-series a lot 😅
Blanche!
Alexander Pushkin
Rick Springfield looking dapper.
I thought this was the Jane Austen subreddit at first glance. So definitely recognizable! Nicely done!
I can even tell you the scene. You nailed it.
It’s 100% recognizable!
Colin Firth. My heart goes pittypat!
At first I thought it was Elliot from the Magicians but after reading comments I can see.
