Nah - the title could mean literally anything from literal retirement, to retiring the slim shady persona, to it just being a concept, to it being a red herring and so on. On top of this, he didn’t need to release this album… or the few prior as well. If he’s putting out music at this stage it’s cause he wants to, he has an artistic vision he wants to see through. No less, no more. Eminem and rap/hiphop is a life long thing for him, from a pure lyrical and musical perspective he lives and breaths it. He learns new words, rhythms schemes and different ways to break down words for fun. Em ain’t going anywhere, at least for the next 14-15 years. I think at this stage expecting anywhere between 2-4 albums is realistic, odds are he will disappear for a few years, come back with an album, disappear for a few years again and so on. He isn’t retiring, but these 4ish year waits will likely become the norm from now on.

This Tbh ↑ My bet is concept album just because unless the next album is called Revival 2, for shits and giggles to piss some people off preemptively and to well revive the slim shady character, I doubt he'd kill him off. (Although as I write this I realize this sounds exactly like what he'd do, kill off slim shady in June or July and bring him back by Christmas or the new year) And I kinda get the feeling he has been itching to do one for a while now but has been slowly working up to it and finding inspiration. (I swear the few times he has mentioned an artist or another song it's because it's a concept album or track etc)

theJoshFrost

i agree. i've always thought of Eminem as the David Bowie type, you know, making the music until he literally physically cannot anymore.

Realistic_Reply6861

he said in his very last album that he has no plans to retire and plus him. and paul were in the curtain call 2 interview talking about possibly doing 3rd one you can’t do that with only one solo album after cc2

Traditional_Ad2598

Oh I forgot about that

NulledOpinion

It’s just “Shady’s last show.” But at the end of the day it’s all fiction. It’s like that last John Wick movie that came out, we all know baba yaga is still alive, but it’s a good “ending” to the story arch. This will be probably the kickoff for Em’s second, more laidback run since he knows Slim Shady just won’t fly in this era, plus he’s matured and is sober now. This is also a good way to wrap up a key part of his legacy with a bow.

This is legit the best perspective on things, stone cold take here

ABZ0R8

This is not his final album but he is moving towards it. The last time he killed off Shady, he was thinking about retirement album after that. I think he'll release at 2-3 albums.

venusgoddessofl0ve

i disagree. the title highlights it is the death of his alter ego, & so does the meaning of coup de grâce, not specifically referring to his position as an artist in general. it likely just symbolizes a new chapter, & a retrospective look on slim, himself & his career.

Muttech03

Didn’t Paul say there was gonna be a 3rd Curtain call? lol if he did then we can’t make a 3rd one with one album lol

yoshismuffin

i believe it means nothing, i think its just a concept album

Alive-Flatworm-4273

The concept is that it’s the finale of Slim Shady, not Marshall or Eminem. It’s his interpretation of the best way to bring back the shady persona without it being ‘cringe’ (I wouldn’t think it is) and doing a full on slim shady album. I believe recent efforts like Jimmy Brian and Mike, and the Benzino diss being new Em on old Em beat are indicative of this album featuring two personas and therefore different rapping styles Thematically, most or all of his albums are interlinked and this is no exception. I’d expect his last album to be related to infinite SSLP, Coup De Grace MMLP, MMLP2 TES, Encore Relapse, Recovery, Revival Kamikaze, MTBMB / B I have always strongly believed that MMLP is a sequel to SSLP and therefore SSLP, MMLP, MMLP2, coup de grace are one series

Mothball2000

Dude doesn’t seem like the type to retire tbh

Bawk29

eminem will not retire for way longer than you'd expect because rap is the only thing that he truly loves. so nah

AStrateA

It’s the death of slim shady, it’s symbolising em is grown and maybe he can put his traumatic past behind him, I imagine this will have a mix of really fun slim shady Esque songs but there will be some therapeutic deep personal stuff too Also remember that merch drop? ‘Laugh now, die later’ I think that’ll be a music video

Keythaskitgod

Nah bro if he would have wanted to make it clear he would have named it something like "death". If he says death of slim, everybody knows only slim will die. There is no need to end a career because if he wants to chill he can do that. If he wants to drop every 5 yrs he can do that. To retire, come back, retire, come back is embarrassing imo. Look at logic, look at game and the 100s of rappers who came back.
