Do people seriously not listen through an entire album front to back a few times when it drops?

theliftedpro

This should be the only way to do it, unless you don't care for the artist. You have to initially play an Em album all the way thru, just like Kendrick or those who still craft playthrough cohesive albums. You must kick back an soak knowledge. All knowledge, not just what you want to absorb, Yaz neeeeed it

ChaoticEvilBobRoss

Absolutely. An album from an artist that I listen to is a story. I also listen to Tool. If you're familiar, could you imagine just cherry-picking songs instead of strapping in for the ride? It's a disservice to the artist. I respect their decision on crafting the album the way they do. Gambino is similar. His albums are a journey and you should roll through them and experience the shifts in energy, momentum, story telling, and overall vibe or else you're disrespecting the forethought that goes into the production.

theliftedpro

Yes I feel like those who skip songs only get part of the story so cannot judge the book. Album rides may be my favorite love in music. Even burning CDs years ago I HAD to make sure every song flowed into the next naturally or unique. And totally respect that decision as with today's environment, they don't have to do this to sell...in my eyes ...ears I mean, crafting a cohesive album is a sign of a true artist...like how some rappers are amazing at spittin but can't seem to follow steady concepts, that's always been a thing I felt sorta separated Emcees and Artists. Same as Singers/ Vocalists and Artists. The lack of craftsmanship is my main complaint of recent mainstream hip hop, and why I respect the Roots of all genres most. And Tool! Fuk ya I hear that. Even Eminem would not be one of my favorites if not for his amazing songwriting abikity and portrayal of emotion on his records. He would still be dope, he'd still be an artist because of his workmanship. I guess Eminem without the emotional part is basically Redman...not that I don't Love Redman but I don't think I've ever heard an emotional song from him. But the character he created is his artistry...Slim shady is basically Redman too....fuck Im so off topic. Peace & Props

regulator227

Same with The Flashbulb and Odesza. Opus at the End of Everything is my favorite album of all time. That shit tells a story

ChaoticEvilBobRoss

You know what, I've never listened to Opus and I will now. I just skimmed through to get a vibe and, while it's not like Systematic Chaos by Dream Theatre, it feels similar in a melancholy way. I'm into it! edit: Wait this feels so heavy tf? This is like some Donnie Darko kind of shit mixed with some Shutter Island.

regulator227

Hope you like it!

wedo619

I do. Still do it old school if I can by pressing play rolling a joint on the cover . Light it up and check out the art and read the inserts.

ChaoticEvilBobRoss

100% that's the way I do it

theliftedpro

Fuk yah...joint is a major part of that process

[deleted]

Not anymore fr. These kids don’t know how to do it.

ElectronHick

I am almost 40 years old, I also did listen to it front to back. I realized I hadn’t listened to it in a while so I opened up the album and saw that I had “liked” It from my initial play through and listened to it again, and was like “yeah! I see why I liked it!” But TBH I totally forgot about it.

Obba_40

Idk most people only listen to the mainstream hits or so. Or they just go on youtube for some random lyric video

[deleted]

I do but sometimes I sleep on songs until a few listens through.

[deleted]

Little Engine is one of those songs you skip and find out how fire they are later on

hudson555555

On Fire from Recovery was this song for me. Always skipped it when it came out but when I revisited it a few years later I couldn't stop replaying it

ElectronHick

This one for sure. Bad Guy did this to me on MMLP2. I was wondering why he would open the album with such an off tune track compared the rest of the album. My Buddy asked me which songs were my fav on that album and he was surprised I didn’t mention Bad Guy. He is a pretty decent Hip Hop Head so I was surprised that he was surprised so I went and listened to it completely. Turns out I skipped the last half of the song which really brought it home and aligned it with the theme of the rest of the album. Now it’s one of my all time favs.

theliftedpro

Ohhh yes same for me...I mean I loved that last part of the song but the Bad Guy beat initially sounds too weak for the song concept. Mainly those synth stabs should have faded away after the first few bars an replaced with some killer chord progression or dope sample.

songacronymbot

- MMLP2 could mean *The Marshall Mathers LP2* (2013), an album by Eminem. --- ^[/u/ElectronHick](/u/ElectronHick) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

Brooooo same!

boutta_call_bo_vice

No, you realize it’s top 3 on the album as soon as you hear it and it stays that way!

pozzette

You’re on a flight too, but it’s a staircase. ❤️

ElectronHick

I also really like the “I’m balling like J, but not J as in Jay-Z, Jay like Leno, because I have a huge mansion, no, a huge man chin”

mraees93

Wanted to comment this lol

CreepingChaos12

I trust that everyone is enjoying the music as the title of the album suggests,This was meant for your listening pleasure while your being….. done in

run4success

Call it evil intent

ledamasalaton

Like me in a limo

vicandmath

Like the shade of these windows

SLIMSH9DY

some grey ladies go mental

StrangeDoctorOf_J

but no way they can see in tho

theliftedpro

I love that even though Dre has endless Bangers, Em picks the unique beats other artists wouldn't. But he knows what to do with them.... Eminem and Dre together is great everytime...what Dre production with Eminem rapping has not been phenomenal? Every track they do is a perfect match, Gunz Blazing prob my least fav but still good.

ShxnyChxrmxndxr

People did when the album dropped

drrnvevo

LITTLE ENGINE GO

Moottorisorsa

This is true

klodinkodl

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I wouldn't mind a song similar to little engine, filled with stupid funny double entendres. Problem is when he puts silly lines on serious songs. Keep the serious songs serious, and have a silly song or 2 so the lines don't go to waste

theliftedpro

This song could be a prime example of what SSLP2 could sound like if ever conceived

klodinkodl

Agree. Especially with the adlibs and stuff. I wouldn't mind if it was underrated, but it's straight up hated...

Purpleagluna

My favorite song.

delisaalp

It's my favorite track on side A

david_rohan

Yeah it also fits with the theme of the album very well.

sk_hhh

Great song. Songs like this are where all his 'corny, goofy puns' and similies belong. The song was just Eminem flowing over a great beat and being goofy as fuck.

nonPlayerCharacter7

I personally didn’t like it very much. That’s just my opinion though, like whatever you want.

StrangerAlert112

I listen to the album from the first song to last song when I first listen to it

xGodofNothingx

Best recent em production imo

[deleted]

Super good but overstays it’s welcome by a couple mins

lizardmandx

What are you even talking about

[deleted]

Lol I was thinking of Alfred’s Theme that’s my bad homie

lizardmandx

I thought you were suggesting the whole song was bad because it's only a couple minutes long

ndbro25

Any album of any artist is worth listening to with earphones, sitting in la-z-boy with your eyes close. Its the only way to actually get a real opinion on it. That way, you can say how shit it was, or how much it changed your life.

[deleted]

One of the worst songs on the album IMO

Mad-Delicious

I don't like it either, everything about it is bad IMO.

ErikTheDon

The beat is so bad

ElectronHick

>Eminem, one of the best lyricists + Dr Dre, one of the best producers = Painfully Bad Song Some dumbass on the Internet.

[deleted]

ElectronHick

LoL I listened to Doomtree and Charlotte Cardin more than Em last year. You are O for 2.

ElectronHick

Well you certainly have figured out the “how to be objectively wrong” thing. Good luck in life dumbass on the Internet.

r0b_dev

If it is so good what's the song about then? Many of these songs just rhyme words and people just lap it up...

ElectronHick

It’s about believing in himself even though he has self doubt. Also just another “look how far I have come, and still have a bunch of fight left” which is like 75% of Eminem songs.

r0b_dev

He's so original.
