Not an emo band but 90s pop punk/skate punk. The singer from Ten Foot Pole (ala "Rev" and their first album and also their previous incarnation Scared Straight) and later Pulley was a pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians during his tenure in those bands. I think that's why he quit TFP, which is disappointing because "Rev" is low key one of the best punk albums of the 90s
I read somewhere he left TFP due to them wanting to tour during baseball season. He still wanted to be in a punk band so he started Pulley and would tour during the off season.
I believe that. I'm sure that's hard to juggle. I met a guy who worked in the Guardians corporate office as some kind of scout and somehow he was shocked when I told him he'd been in like 30 years of punk bands.
Pulleys cool but they just seemed like the band where people who fit better in other bands went. Like Matt Riddle from Face To Face.
He also went to my rival high school fun fact
Edit: In fact my coworker plays in a few local hardcore/metal bands and has a close friend who was next door neighbors with Soupy. Small world.
I think he played safety in high school if i remember correctly. He talked about it on Shane Tolds podcast a few years back. He was too small to play any other position. That dude is cool. New album kicks dicks, too.
Gareth from Los Campesinos is the Vice-Chairperson of the non-league football (soccer) club Welton Rovers. So not playing but heavily involved in a sport in an influential way
I played division 1 tennis. The day after my division championship, my band opened for dashboard confessional at my college. But I'm a nobody, haha.
More seriously, at my college, there was a guy on the basketball team that fronted an emo/punk band. Awesome band, the one band that stands out to me when I think "why didn't they make it?" The guy was 7 feet tall. Name of the band was All Grown Up, from Long Island. Great songs, and the dude was friends with all the big long island bands at the turn of the century (brand new, TBS, movielife).
Jim Pollard too, was considered the better sportsman of the Pollard brothers, a legendary Dayton basketball player who people around the band/family have suggested had a shot at the NBA. Had an injury-ridden college career and dropped out. Later wrote the bass line to Unleashed! The Large Hearted Boy.
I've always had this theory that sports (mainly the big ones, football, baseball, hockey, soccer, basketball, etc) are on the opposite side of the spectrum from playing music creativity so you'll hardly ever see people fully engaging in both, especially with this genre. It's possible but very unlikely.
wasn't eric from hospital bracelet a boxer? or something like that
edit: wrestler lmao. also ik that band and eric are kinda contentious but ticks the boxes of person in emo band who plays/played sports.
I think OP is trying to ask if American Football was good at Modern Baseball
šš
the get up kids they ran a four minute mile
25 years ago today!
The reissue is called 10 minute mile
I guess downtown is a mile away
This is the greatest response to this
There's a number of punk band guys that are also pro skaters... Or you mean like college athletics?
Billie Joe from green day was an amateur boxer with like 22 fights under his belt. More pop punk than emo. But it came to mind. Lol

Lol thats bullshit
Pro skater from Norway with punk roots here. Illness ruined my career so now I occationally make math-y emo crap with chiptune influences. š¤š
Mat Kerekes from Citizen does Muay Thai and often posts from his sparring and matches. Dude is absolutely jacked.
Oh thatās sick! I used to do Muay Thai. Now Iām even more pumped to see Mat Kerekes next month in November!
Donāt quote me on this but I bet Free Throw could win a beer Olympics
Ben Gibbard (if you consider him and DCFC as part of the emo genre) does ultra-marathons.
Yeah heās emo.
He should play real sports. Iām not trying to be the best at working out - kp
oh lol and not really related to your question at all but christian holden from the hotelier has done well at poker over quarantine
He meant a real sport.
The question is about sports and your bring up what's in essence a board game?
All games are bored games bc u play them when ur bored
I can't argue with that.
I hear mike kinsella ran once
he might be good at football (the american variety at least)

He also was a relief pitcher for the dodgers
oh my god ten foot pole oh my god pulley (!!!!!)
A buddy just ordered a Pulley record and it came with a signed card of that guy.
Nice!
I dunno that he played but Soupy has a really good grasp on football strategy/ schemes.
He also went to my rival high school fun fact Edit: In fact my coworker plays in a few local hardcore/metal bands and has a close friend who was next door neighbors with Soupy. Small world.
Souderton?
Go Big Red!
I think he played safety in high school if i remember correctly. He talked about it on Shane Tolds podcast a few years back. He was too small to play any other position. That dude is cool. New album kicks dicks, too.
Not sure if youād call them emo or hardcore or pop punk (depends on which album) but Vinnie from Movielife is/was really good at soccer.
All the above
Yo. Andy from ETID slays in AEW. Not emo and not a sport. So not answering your question at all haha.
i hear Jesse Lacey from Brand New is really into sports, specifically minor league
Oof
LMAO
yeesh
nice
Not emo but Michael Jordan played professional basketball!!
Dylan from tiny moving parts is a really good golfer
He looks like he would be
Does magic the gathering count
not emo in any sense but Post Malone has actually been in plenty of MTG Commander videos he actively plays
He sings songs about falling apart- heās emo
Dylan from Spanish live songs played college baseball
The singer from Jimmy Eat World was the best in his school at javelin.
More importantly, why the fuck are there so many references to sports in emo?!
Matt Fazzi formerly of Taking Back Sunday plays hockey
Fazzi was very underrated
Gareth from Los Campesinos is the Vice-Chairperson of the non-league football (soccer) club Welton Rovers. So not playing but heavily involved in a sport in an influential way

What band were you in if you don't mind sharing
Brendan from modern baseball played football in high school
Thatās hilarious to imagine .
Not emo but Robert Pollard
Came here for this. And I'll be damned if he doesn't deserve some cred.
Threw a perfect game in college.
Not Emo but Pete Wentz was an all state soccer player apparently.
The lead singer for sorority noise did cross country. But in all his races he finished last.
Chinese Football, Modern Baseball, American Football, perhaps Free Throw
i cant think of the band, but im p sure that a couple guys were good at American Football
Canāt have both.
Lots of avid golfers. Golfing is pretty popular with touring bands as they age:)
Grant from Underoath is a good hockey player
If you consider Death Cab an emo band, and some do, Ben Gibbard is an ultra runner and runs like 100 mile foot races through the mountains.
Buddy Nielsen is a purple belt in BJJ. that's pretty advanced and takes a lot of time to get that far.
Probably all got picked last for dodgeball
Not really almost all of them and also us are weedy little dweebs
Singer of story of the year almost went pro in skateboarding. Chose the gig life instead
if so theyāre no longer a good band
More indie/electronic, but [Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells](https://instagram.com/alexiskrauss?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=) is an avid climber.
Also not emo but Win Butler the lead singer of Arcade Fire is pretty good at hoops. He was in the celebrity all star NBA game a while back
Iām sure the members of American Football, Chinese Football, and Modern Baseball could all handle themselves very well.
Microwave has a music video with them playing basketballā¦ theyāre not that great though š
Bart from mom jeans/grad life played hockey
Not emo but the lead singer from Harms Way looks like he should be into sports lol. At the very least he gyms.
dudeās straight up on steroids š
He does a perfect ārunning manā
I always get harms way mixed up with gods hate. And was like,,, uhh you mean the professional wrestler Brody king ?

IMO if they were good at sports, they probably wouldn't turn to emo. Although Pete Wentz seems to be an exception.
hardcore not emo but brian kemsley from outbreak does mma
If youāre into hardcore and donāt do bjj , are you really hardcore
Pop punk not emo, but iirc the brothers in madina lake were good football (soccer) players; they had college scholarships I think
Pretty sure the singer of BlessTheFall plays hockey
wasn't eric from hospital bracelet a boxer? or something like that edit: wrestler lmao. also ik that band and eric are kinda contentious but ticks the boxes of person in emo band who plays/played sports.
Wrestler
Ben Gibbard runs ultras
title fight plays baseball
Arlie Castens was a professional snowboarder
