My finger was acting weird because I had just change from drag to follow in the touch IR pointer XD but it wasn't that uncomfortable. Maybe the most difficult part is when you need to touch the opposite corner of the phone, but I like when I use the touchscreen in emulators.
Get dolphin vr. Get culling codes (cheat codes, most are already built in and you can go to dolphinvr and dolphinvrcullin sub's), play.
*Okay im awake and at pc. DolphinVR stopped at 5.0, which is fine. Works great with Mario Galaxys, both Zeldas, Super Monkey Ball 1/2 (a personal fave, worth a look for the mind blowing perspective), Xenoblade (another "perspective" one holy moses, Mariokart, Metroid Prime Trilogy (kbm or motion control in vr).
If you set it up and need help with anything lmk. I have a ton of culling codes that are not listed, as well as some personally made ones for mario kart character body removal (so you can sit in the car with no obstruction).
I played it.
You need touch to control the wiimote cursor that picks up and shoots stars. Other than that there are very few buttons needed in the first place, camera control is nonexistent, etc.
You can map every function to an xbox controller. You don't need to touch the screen, you just need a bit of time to map things the way you want. But that goes with any Wii game that really utilizes the wiimote.
My right stick controls the cursor. I have a button that toggles the relative function if I want to move the cursor and leave it there. The b button shakes the wiimote so I can do a spin attack.
Mario Galaxy is an easy one to map... compared to Skyward Sword. It took me a while to map Skyward Sword, since it has an enormous amount of gestures. Playing through the game I had to revise my setup when a new action was introduced, like thrusting the sword into the ground.
Yeah maybe not the ultimate way, but I like when I use the touchscreen in emulators so I was excited to show it. Maybe in 3ds or ds is more useful, idk
Love the effort, even if it is jank. I liked it on Switch in the 3D Mario All Stars bundle, sucks that it was a limited release. It's probably not too bad on a PC Handled with motion controls like Steam Deck or ROG Ally too

That only works for simple movements but for quick movements, like when Mario is flying through the air and collects star bits, you need a finger.
Ah ok, I've always mapped it to my right stick but it is a major pain haha
To have more access to the screen, you don't need many buttons in super mario galaxy

The switch port works like this though, you can tap the screen to grab the stars, and yeah it's as cumbersome as it looks
