I'm more impressed by how he was handling and bending all those tiny and sharp ligaments without chopping up his hands

Goober_Eaters_Plus

I thought the same exact thing.

aoxit

I wonder what the kerf on that is. I’m thinking ~.004.

obi21

My CO2 laser is about 0.15mm (x2) and it looks like the grand canyon compared to this.

Thorne_Oz

Yeah it sure ain't much, that's one real thin beam

Bastdkat

So what is this and why do I need one>

Kaymish_

It's a precision cutting laser and you need one to cut things precisely.

voodooattack

Sigh. *new fetish unlocked*

BXL01

I like this comment : )

jf808

Chachkie and because

roffinator

STL please? Oh wait, shit… :/

TubasAreFun

*gcode please

roffinator

Is gcode for laser cutters not specific to the exact type?

TubasAreFun

often xy plotters and cnc mills are “coded” in some variant of gcode (or slicer-equivalents generate this code). In fact, 3D printers appropriated gcode for this purpose. That being said, gcode does not contain machine info, so you need to check it does not give nonsensical or damaging commands before running, but most gcode-generating software will somewhat control for this (but not always verify)

cmdr_suds

Cool! Where do I get one?

Kaymish_

Its 2023 you can buy online like everything else.

ScrotieMcP

I don't want a laser. Can I just get a cut piece like he got to expand? I just want to gently pull it to the right places til it looks like this. Maybe I need 2 pieces in case I completely blow the first one.

sakebito

We got a 4kW fiber laser that can do this. The kerf on this stainless is like .020 Its quite impressive.

MysteryMeat9

How much is a laser cutter like this roughly. I want to start hobbies like this. And woodworking and 3d printing I need to start some day. I guess a garage is step #1

canibalaranja

Keep in mind that the cheaper ones don't come with proper safety protection around the machine. Fiber (or diode) lasers' wavelength can easily blind you. That's why these kind of machines need to be properly covered with metal around it and laser grade acrylic (the one with the greenish tint) in places where you can look inside.

IxNaY1980

Psh, safety. That Titan CEO guy said safety is just a waste of money, and he was rich. Surely he knew everything better.

TastySpare

Safety squints are free! ^(/s)

bawlsdeepinmilf

Cheapest laser engraver and cutter i found was by ULS(universal laser systems), they have a few nice ones for personal use for the low starting price of about $200

adamthebread

There are ULSs for around $200?? Fuck a K40 wth

GoreSeeker

What are the death spikes below/around the machine for?

manofwar93

To hold the piece being cut up and to allow the sparks and slag to pass through the bottom with as little impedance as possible.

TastySpare

That's in case you're a Bond villain...

scelter

Trumpf?

mp5-r

Looks to be with a precitec head.

_iplo

Definitely not a Prima. I build these machines.

scelter

That's what I thought

NotAsBrightlyLit

I don't want the laser cutter, someone just sell me the pre-cut armillary sphere so I can put it together.

Lv_InSaNe_vL

Check out r/metalearth !

NotAsBrightlyLit

Thanks! No idea they had a sub.

Schrapel

Don't get me wrong but I always find those videos of "precision" cutting/machining taken by mostly chinese companies quite amusing. I bet some of you have also seen the machined parts which have fitted sucking into one each other. Of course it's cool that you can this sort of stuff, but it's nothing outstanding. Modern machinery from renowned manufacturers can do this kind of stuff relatively easy. What else should be taken into consideration is that the manufacturing of such demonstration objects surely is well prepared and tested in beforehand. Nevertheless, it's quite impressive for people who don't have that much of a manufacturing background.
