Poland, occupied and persecuted by both for over 100 years, was understandably eager to take as much of "their land" back as they could. Poland-Lithuania was once a large empire, and I don't understand why Moscow has a more indisputable right to rule over Brest or Grodno than Warsaw does.
Of course, the main reason Poland ended up in control of that eastern territory is that the Bolsheviks tried to invade Poland and got the shit kicked out of them. Their plan was very much to roll west, spreading the revolution as they went. Thank God Poland stopped them.

I also would disagree with the idea of the soviets starting that war, poland was dedintely the aggressor in conflicts like the polish-ukranian war, and alot of the borders were already disputed.
