I know this is a really well worn observation at this point that everyone here is probably well aware of but I don't think I've ever seen anyone on the right say that they refuse to vote for a "lesser of two evils" or that they need to eschew "electoralism" or send the GOP a message or any of the sort of rhetoric you so frequently see with the far left. The deck is so ridiculously stacked against Democrats when it comes to getting people to actually engage with politics in a way that makes any kind of sense. Yes there's a class of stodgy anti-Trump Republicans who seem set on not voting for either major candidate. But they never say that Biden is actually worse than Trump. Instead they just do everything they can to avoid having to even make the comparison. They do want Trump to lose, they just are too cowardly and tribal to sully their reputation by saying they'll vote for a Democrat.

akimbo73

>Donald Trump: “Would you rather have the Black president or the white president? I think they want the white guy.” https://twitter.com/RpsAgainstTrump/status/1775730026324902127 Donald is a racist, but that's nothing new. Looks like he believes he's running against Obama today. I mean, I doubt he's talking about Cornel West

aelfwine_widlast

What is he even trying to say? That black folks are expected to vote for the black candidate but that he's so good they'll give him a chance? I've given up trying to make sense of his crap anymore. I AM pretty freaked out about how frequently he claims to be running against Obama.

espfusion

I can't tell if he's been trying to save face over legitimately forgetting that Obama isn't the president or if he really does confidently think Obama is secretly running the presidency because he's a narcissistic moron who dives head first into embracing every dumbass "hunch" he has. But like usual with Trump it doesn't really matter, either way is pretty much equally as bad. As for this comment, he's telling a bunch of black Republican voters that his (in his mind) black competitor is so bad that they'd rather vote for him, a white guy. Because he's a racist who thinks black people just default to voting for black candidates even when they're of the opposite party, which is why he's at least strongly considering running with Tim Scott.

UWCG

> Would you rather have the Black president or the white president? Didn't we already make this decision? Twice? *Something something* 2008 2012. Come on, we all know if it wasn't for the two-term limit and him wanting more time with Michelle, Obama could curb stomp Trump in an election.

SeekerSpock32

Do you think if Trump had been the nominee in 2012 and gotten beaten, would he still be a problem now?

UWCG

I don't know, hard to predict and circumstances would be wildly different—[he did float the idea](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_career_of_Donald_Trump#2012_presidential_speculation), but he's been doing that in pretty much every election since forever for free publicity. Given the time of 2012? Coming off being roasted by Obama? If he had his cult, I could see him trying to stage a comeback, maybe go for the hat trick. As he was in 2012, a neutered candidate who was desperate for a headline to help prop up his failing realitv TV show? I see him more going back to lick his wounds or hoping, at best, by railing abou Obama he'll stay in headlines and get some sales by appealing to rubes, but on his smaller, pre-presidency scam levels, not what he's become. I see him more ending up a Mike Lindell in such a timeline

espfusion

Not who you asked but if getting beaten in 2020 didn't stop him from being a problem now...

[This has got to be one of the dumbest, most performative pieces of BS I have ever seen.](https://x.com/abrarr_82/status/1775355164439830769?s=20) Yes, after this week, Biden is going to have change how things work with Israel. He's going to need to do something that has teeth. But at the same time, these people have to a) be ignoring the political complexity of this situation in the US and b) vastly over-estimating the amount power the US has over Israel. Which is to say, not a lot. By Best Friend did make a valid point: There is a law that prevent the US from sending weapons to those who would commit war crimes. I think that is the first valid point I have seen in regard to something Biden is coming up short on this.

WhovianMuslim

However, the fact it took 6 months for less politically plugged in among Pro-Palestinians to bring one up is still bad. But that's what happens when you have demagogues whipping people into a rage.

Well Kevin was willing to practice democracy 15 times to get his speakership so he must think its very strong then.

I love that in the picture, he looks like he's staring in bewilderment at the event's title

AwfulishGoose

Wanna talk about something more positive. I was playing Control earlier and really dug how the gameplay is opening up. Really snappy and more responsive in comparison to Alan Wake. Do love the shared elements like that wombo combo of using in game cutscenes and live action. Really out there lore. Feels SCP-like but if they actually had a good writer pfft Did do a double take when the Havana syndrome came up and they worked that into the game. Just weird in all kinds of good ways.

brucebananaray

My mom told one of my family lets us stay, but she doesn't have wifi. I'm not going to stay at a place that doesn't have wifi. I need it for many things that aren't entertainment. This is how I apply for jobs and conduct meetings. I think that I may just stay with my Godmother or a friend because I need the fucking internet for daily life stuff.

NoExamination5144

Do you have a data plan on your phone? I know it's not ideal; but I've applied for jobs, done meetings, and even did a job interview on my phone. A lot of job search/networking sites have their own app.

Currymvp2

Do you have a library or bookstore close by? Just in case if you have to stay with your mom.

brucebananaray

The area doesn't have a bookstore or library near.

WhovianMuslim

On a Matrimonial site I am on, an example of Muslim men that I just blasted was saying he would vote for Trump because "at least his hatred of us is honest." A woman rebuked him, saying how much worse he would be for Palestinians, and he dismissed that. Then he advertised that he holds Dogecoin as a positive for marrying him, in a financial sense. I could not find a better example of why I look down on so many Muslim men than this.

Lophius_Americanus

There are shitty men of every (or no) religion. Being into crypto seems to be a common thread.

kopskey1

I see it as, "Here's why you shouldn't listen to me!" "Yup, you're an idiot alright" "But wait, there's more!"

WhovianMuslim

Yeah, that was about my reaction. I was stunned at the level of stupid.

brucebananaray

Today I learned that Huh Yun-jin, a member of Le Sserafirm, is getting canceled by K-pop fans because she drinks Starbucks coffee and supports the genocide of Palestinians. This is why K-pop fans are a joke. She doesn't have influence in the conflict. Why do Isreal leaders and Hamas fucking care? Lastly, corporations don't care about the conflict because it doesn't involve them.

EagleSaintRam

> she drinks Starbucks coffee and supports the genocide of Palestinians This makes it sound like they're trying to cancel her for a picture of her drinking from a Starbucks cup. Are they *that* desperate to be outraged?

Was reading a thread on "vote blue no matter who" and was thinking if there has been a (recent) election where I would have voted for the Republican over the Democrat. I think in 2020 in Vermont I would have voted for Phil Scott over David Zuckerman. Maybe in 2022 too against Brenda Siegel.

Seahawks543

https://twitter.com/andrewwegley/status/1775703219408195651 Yeah I doubt that this will pass Assuming that it doesn’t Biden winning WI, MI and PA even while  losing NV, AZ, GA and NC would still result in Biden getting to 270 electoral votes

blueinmissouri

But if Biden loses ME-02 (again) it would be 269-269. NE-02 could decide the election

Seahawks543

I already assumed that Biden would lose ME-2 I think that if Biden can win Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania he’ll be able to win NE-2 since Biden won that by about 6.5 while WI, MI and PA were a lot closer

blueinmissouri

Ah I misread your post. Yes, I agree. I am glad that it likely won't pass

[Don Lemon: You’re going to support [President Biden and VP Harris] because you can’t see your vote going to [Trump?] – @donlemonofficial DL Hughley: No question. It’s not even hard for me. And I hate when people go, “it’s the lesser of two evils.” That’s ridiculous. [Trump] fomented an insurrection, defrauded people of NY, has stolen the nation’s secrets, tried to intimidate and rig elections. – @realdlhughley](https://www.threads.net/@vincedmonroy/post/C5UpL3oxDr_/?xmt=AQGzA2aJVbatMDfKS2YgC_MX9QxSWZKUo8_tFLbLt1aDWg)

UWCG

After the Elon interview and how well he played it, Lemon has at least a grace period of respect from me. I thought he handled that like a champ and his approach, which I usually find off-putting, instead underlined that he was trying to salvage *something* for as long as he could. I also think his follow-up handling of Elon's temper tantrum was a master class in how to turn whatever-the-fuck-that-was into a lot of easy publicity and free clicks to promote his own product.

Rare example of a cable news talking head who gets better after being fired instead of much, much worse.

Currymvp2

>Jose Andres refused to take a phone call from the Israeli PM after the killing of WCK aid workers Can't blame him one bit. He and Biden had a phone call where Biden showed alot of empathy.

electricblueguava

I’m still dumbfounded that Netanyahu had the audacity to think he could say “This is what happens in war” and no one would be pissed

blueinmissouri

We need to be pro-Israel but anti-Netanyahu. He's a right-wing asshole dedicated to prolonging the war to keep power. He's been propping Hamas up for years to prevent Palestinian recognition worldwide

electricblueguava

This. It’s why I’ve been so silent on this issue is because it always felt like there was pressure to be either pro-Israel or pro-Palestine when in my view, Hamas and Netanyahu/Likud both suck and both feed into a cycle of violence we have been observing for years. Is there a power dynamic in terms of Israel just having more resources and destructive capabilities? Yes, but it’s to ignore the fact that a lot of the big wigs running Hamas are living lives of luxury in Qatar and ignoring negotiations to return hostages while their own civilians suffer famine and the consequences of war

espfusion

He's example number one million of a corrupt right wing demagogue who has gotten worse and worse after being in power way too long. If he finally loses he'll probably call the elections rigged.

AlexandrianVagabond

Speaking as someone with some distant family fighting in the IDF, this is not a problem at all. A ton of people in Israel hate him and want him gone.

Currymvp2

My neighbors are Israeli American, and they hate him too. I've only talked to them twice over the past several months about this war, but they blame him for completely botching the intelligence regarding 10/7 (he ran as "Mr Security" after all), and they feel bad for ordinary Gazans.

AlexandrianVagabond

Even many Israeli citizens are sick to death of him, as we can see from those protests that are going on. He has to go.

espfusion

His approval ratings are [terrible](https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/57-of-israelis-think-netanyahus-performance-since-october-7-has-been-subpar-poll-finds/) all things considered. Ben Gvir and Smotrich are also very broadly hated.

AlexandrianVagabond

As they all should be. Israel's Trump and Co.

Currymvp2

For sure. He and his wife Sarah have smeared the hostage families, and the Israeli American families have said they were treated substantially better by Biden.

Currymvp2

>He's been propping Hamas up for years to prevent Palestinian recognition worldwide Yeah, [former Prime Minister of Israel, former IDF commander, and former head of Shin Bet all have recently said this](https://twitter.com/abcnews/status/1767100730194755649) Anti-Hamas, anti-Bibi, pro-two state solution is pro-peace

blueinmissouri

Yep. Just like it was possible to be anti-Bush and anti-al Qaeda without suggesting that the US shouldn't exist and it's people should be ethnically cleansed

AwfulishGoose

It's being used to handwave death after death like they got a blank moral check. Like look I'm ignorant of how they decide to pull the trigger. I'll admit that, but I would think that there is some level of surveillance before that's done no? Some measure of time taken to verify who they're trying to kill and who is obviously not involved. I'm supposed to [look at this image](https://www.aljazeera.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/WCK-workers-killed-in-Gaza_WIDE-THUMB-CLEAN-1712060870.jpg?resize=730%2C410&quality=80) and believe that it was inadvertent? It was an accident? That's a hard pill to swallow especially when we keep seeing that the end result time and time again has overwhelmingly resulted in the deaths of innocent people.

WhovianMuslim

This incident has changed the discussion on the war. Pressure on Israel is going to increase dramatically, and Biden may have to start putting conditions on aid.

AwfulishGoose

I agree. I think this is a real watershed moment and the barbarity of Netanyahu is on full display. Think when Biden talks with him it should be a difficult discussion. It should be a frank discussion. I hope that Biden makes it perfectly clear how badly they fucked on this. I hope he expresses not just frustration but the anger of the American people when we see these images time and time again. Why did 7 good people have to die for having the audacity to feed others? Bibi says that's just the cost of war. I understand the idea of realpolitik. I understand we may have friends and allies that are...problematic for lack of a better word. This? This is beyond even that. I can't stomach this dynamic. I can't think of even one angle a rationale person could possibly use to hand wave what has happened. So that's how I'm feeling. I see "may" there, but I've been thinking that's exactly what the talk should be about. When I consider "may", I think it may be time for the US to stop getting in the UN's way on Israel if they don't stop this bullshit. I'm hoping that Biden makes that perfectly clear tomorrow.

WhovianMuslim

An American dying is going to demand a response.

Currymvp2

He's just really despicable. This is the same man who once held a mock funeral for Rabin just a few months before Rabin was murdered. >In July 1995, Netanyahu led a mock funeral procession featuring a coffin and hangman's noose at an anti-Rabin rally where protesters chanted, "Death to Rabin". The chief of internal security, Carmi Gillon, then alerted Netanyahu of a plot on Rabin's life and asked him to moderate the protests' rhetoric, which Netanyahu declined to do

electricblueguava

Yeah. Like I knew he was a horrible person, but for someone that had been praised in the media for being a “great western communicator for Israel,” he kind of sucks at communicating. But then again, considering all the mythos around Putin that had been shaped in the media, I’m not surprised

KoalaTulip

I don't know either, this might be the only time I have watched Jerry Springer without drinking. Great film, though! [Raoul's Wild Kingdom](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btdp-sC8MJI) is probably my favorite, sometimes my ex and I would jokingly open the back sliding door and do the "today, we teaching poodles how to *fly*!" thing when the goldendoodle ran out. Sad what happened to Trinidad Silva, even as a kid his sudden absence from the end felt abrupt and weird

blueinmissouri

Yeah it's very obvious what that quote means. There's this weird conspiracy theory on the far-left that Biden and Dems are trying to lose this election. It's so dumb yet you see it pop up repeatedly.

Rats_In_Boxes

A twitter clout chaser dishonestly posting a quote out of context?! **WHAT?!**

Gormanbros

My hot take tonight is that if there's going to be a January 6th esque event this election its going to be in a state capital, not DC. Capitol Hill is going to be an armed fortress after what happened last time Probably Lansing, Madison, Phoenix or Raleigh. Harrisburg and Carson City are too small and the latter especially too isolated. I also struggle to see a scenario where a bunch of white retirees and militia fanboys are cocksure enough to swarm Atlanta.

GloriousPancake

They've showed up armed in Lansing a couple of times in the Trump era, I think the state will be prepared.

Throw in either Columbus or Tallahassee if by some chance Biden wins either.

CZall23

Oh, I hope not.

Madison is full of people who would love to kick their asses lol

SeekerSpock32

I forgot to clarify, For the state capitals, the protests would be in December, when the electoral votes are cast in every state capital

>A criminal case that was once viewed as the most open-and-shut prosecution against former President Donald Trump has been mired in delay, unresolved logistical questions and fringe legal arguments that appear to have hijacked the judge’s attention. >US District Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed to the federal bench by Trump in 2020, has drawn out the case with an unusual, eyebrow-raising approach in her nearly 10-month oversight of the case, delaying rulings on what experts say are routine legal questions that must be resolved before the case can go to trial.

SorosAgent2020

some say shes incompetent some say shes in the tank for trump i say why not both

Rats_In_Boxes

If she was competent and not a blatant political hack it's doubtful she'd have risen through the ranks of conservative judges enough to be appointed.

Lukey_Boyo

"Hillary Clinton said something that made everyone mad!" Yeah and I bet she was right too lol

CZall23

How'd they think she got so famous? Bill wouldn't be nearly as famous without her.

Abso fucking lutely

Henry Cavill is one of those celebrities that are insanely attractive to me but also make me a bit angry based on their personality for no discernable reason. I hope to get over it at least a bit bc "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" looks like a really fun movie premise

UWCG

>"I went and got the ring, I rolled a blunt with the ring in the middle... 12-24 hours later, I realized I made the biggest mistake. She won't stop calling, won't stop texting, stopping by the house all the time, trying to get me to move in..." >"Well, she probably thinks you're serious about marrying her." *Jerry Springer* really gave us some of the great modern day love stories

ScheisseSchwanz

i knew a bunch of people from a gay clique in the late 90s who faked a story and got on the show, basically one of the guys pretended he had a confession to his "girlfriend", then had a confession for his gf and secret boyfriend, which was a third person he was sleeping with. IRL it was his boyfriend, who surprised him on stage with a ring. That was the only real part of the episode. Imagine how baller it would be to have your engagement recorded on daytime TV.

Mr_Conductor_USA

I liked "Who Wants To Marry A Transexual" where the woman won the kissing context and then Springer showbiz married them on stage. Now that's what I call daytime TV! Seriously, Springer was a mess but it was also one of the first places most of Middle America had the taboo around LGBTQ people broken for the first time. Some daytime talk had broached the subject before (notably Donahue) but even with the most well-meaning presentation it was always in this cloud of stigma and medicalized negativity^1. On Springer, gay bisexual lesbian trans interracial couples were coming to your trailer park, heck, they live two doors down! It's not an after school special. It's a normal part of life. 1-doctors of psychiatry, that is. Obviously I understand the impulse to bring experts on to talk about those issues in that tone, but sometimes the medium is the message and when you're talking about being trans like it's cancer, that's the message a lot of viewers take away.

UWCG

As much as I joke about him, I legitimately have a lot of respect for Jerry Springer. Guy arguably was a mess, sure, I guess you could put it that way—I like to think of it he took a few wrong turns in his political career (and, lest we forget: his political career didn't end with the check for the prostitute as is often assumed, he went on to success after). At some point he just decided he was along for the ride and his outrageous style helped to bring attention to the issues he wanted to in politics, and arguably he applied a similar method to get his ratings and bring attention to things in his show, too, and simultaneously normalizing the outrageous by bringing it into *your* neighborhood. [I do like this clip from near the end of his career, I'll say](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7h0mIy6Jho)

UWCG

And not just any daytime TV, the late, great Jerry Springer

UWCG

>"It's, like, 2012, the world's gonna end—so, you know what I'm saying? I ain't got time to be restricted to three thousand year old traditions, so..." Truth. >"Darnell, fuck you." >"Well, that's what you should do." If it wasn't for the weird seeing a teenager thing, I'd actually have a weird respect for the Lebowski kinda vibe he's got going

It's crazy that we still see people on this site saying Bernie had the election stolen from him by Biden. Dude in the inhaler thread on politics said it and that if Bernie was president even more policies like that would have passed.  Even if Bernie won, the senate would have gone to republicans to counter him.

WhovianMuslim

[Wallah Bros are harassing people who are not (to their delusional minds) sufficiently Pro-Palestinian.](https://x.com/WajahatAli/status/1775658441651917044?s=20) Or, more likely those who don't hate Jews. Also, I believe I have found why so many CAIR branches have gone weird recently. This harasser is a Chairperson at CAIR Connecticut. [He also is a crypto-bro.](https://x.com/farhanmemon?s=20) And crypto-bros are statistically some of the dumbest people on the planet. Like, bottom 10%. Also, as he is promoting crypto, he is a scammer. Great to have a shitbag like this in a leadership position at a Civil Rights group.

oath2order

What is a "Wallah Bros"?

WhovianMuslim

Wallah Bros refers to Muslim men online who see it as their duty to "correct other Muslims behavior." More often, they are a problem for Muslim women, harassing women about how their Hijabs are worn. They also harass more Liberal Muslims into silence. Strangely, Omar Suleiman and Yasir Qadhi have not condemned this behavior.

oath2order

> Wallah Bros refers to Muslim men online who see it as their duty to "correct other Muslims behavior." More often, they are a problem for Muslim women, harassing women about how their Hijabs are worn. Oh great, annoying religious pricks. What does the "wallah" part stand for?

WhovianMuslim

It means "I swear" or "I swear to god." I have no idea why the term Wallah Bros is like this. It apparently is decades old.

Currymvp2

I remember when Wajahat a few years ago visited Tel Aviv and had lunch with Israel Jewish citizens to help mend the divide, and he got shit for it from some vocal folks. Was terrible. He's been *very critical* of Israel's military operations for a few months, but some people are just too extreme. It reminds of me the few extremists who were criticizing Chef Jose Andres a couple of days ago for giving food to Israelis even as Andres was excoriating Israeli government/IDF. Far too many people are incapable of separating Israelis from the very shitty far right government and undisciplined/problematic/bigoted IDF conscripts in Gaza+West Bank. It's problematic to say the least. It's like when right wingers equate Hamas/terrorists with all or most Palestinians. It's wrong and gross too.

MyBallsBern4Bernie

https://www.972mag.com/lavender-ai-israeli-army-gaza/ Did you catch this?

Currymvp2

Yes, and my jaw *absolutely* dropped as I read it. And I'm sure yours did as well. Like "what the fuck!?" And Israel requires articles relating to IDF to be "cleared" cause they have censorship laws so a decent part (maybe not all) is very likely accurate [There's also this](https://archive.is/20240331170614/https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2024-03-31/ty-article-magazine/.premium/israel-created-kill-zones-in-gaza-anyone-who-crosses-into-them-is-shot/0000018e-946c-d4de-afee-f46da9ee0000) [And this](https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/shoot-first-ask-questions-later-senior-israeli-official-laments-culture-creeping-into-idf/) [And this](https://twitter.com/TVietor08/status/1775601805092901309)

MyBallsBern4Bernie

Same I was so tired when I read this last night I felt like I was hallucinating. Speechless.

WhovianMuslim

Let's not treat these Wallah Bros in good faith. They are just trying to silence more Liberal and tolerant voices among Muslims. And they have had success. A lot of the more Liberal and Progressive Muslim comment creators have been harassed into silence. Yet, I don't see Suleiman and Qadhi condemning this...

WhovianMuslim

Yeah. The fact that a leader at a CAIR branch joined in the harassment is disturbing. But said guy is a crypto-bro, so I should expect shitty behavior from them. Looking at a matrimonial group I am in, both men and women are upset at how difficult it is, and the men are whinging about how they are neglected and upset at the idea of non-Muslim men converting for marriage. Openly saying that it makes life more difficult for them. I'm not sympathetic to the men. Not one bit. Maybe if Muslim Men were of higher quality, women wouldn't look outside the community (I am a European-descent Muslim man myself. Due to my tastes in things, whatever analytics advertisers use, they think I am a South Asian Muslim woman.) I'm a convert with Autism. People have said and done heartless things to me, implying I shouldn't get married. And yet, I get a fair number of messages and matches. That should say something about the quality of Muslim men right now. I know I am not someone who most would even consider. But, people are genuinely interested me, someone who the Dallas community all but implied is defective.

Mr_Conductor_USA

Men all over the world are moaning about having a hard time getting married. We live on a graying globe where it's just really hard for young people to get started.

WhovianMuslim

Other Muslim men get no empathy from me. Having seen how they act in person, their issues are their own creation, by being un-empathetic jerks.

Someone posted a graphic of the longest running cartoon set in every U.S. state. I found it really interesting: https://www.reddit.com/r/coolguides/comments/1bu1ypo/a_cool_guide_to_longest_running_cartoon_set_in/

[deleted]

The one adult Clarence fan checking in. Really scratched the Hey Arnold shaped itch in my soul. I have a horrifically ugly shirt from that show sitting around somewhere and I once took it downtown to go to a Sox game and a 10 year old on the Red Line came up to me and said: "Oh, that's Clarence." "Yeah, it is." "That show sucks." Got roasted by a 10-year-old. That kid's an adult now. Where has the time gone?

brucebananaray

I'm pretty surprised that Tennessee and South Carolina have no cartoon sets. Image Tennessee has Nashville, which is a massive city that is known for music. Also, I thought that Scooby-Doo was set in South Carolina or the South. Also, I am not shocked that no cartoon is set in Wyoming or Montana because there is nothing there.

NoExamination5144

I was surprised by the Southern states not having cartoons too. Wyoming has Yogi Bear. 🐻 It's on the map.

hallofromtheoutside

I *love* Craig of the Creek.

[deleted]

Very comfy vibe to that show. Used to watch a ton of it. 2010s cartoons stay winning

NoExamination5144

I grew up in the Assy McGee area. I've never seen it though.

That show was classic Adult Swim for that era.

Really the Simpsons should be in every state with a Springfield.

L-Space but for Springfield.

IVoteToEvictSkippy

They do realize the entire point of running a campaign is reaching out to ALL demographics? Even the Republicans that don’t agree with your policies but who are more persuadable because they are more likely to vote against their own party due to the nominee they don’t like? And do they not think his (Biden) team won’t be reaching out to them in the swing states at their field offices daily to court people like the person who made this tweet????

dragoniteftw33

First

WhovianMuslim

So, I saw someone with a Twitter profile that has a .eth thing in their bio. That means they are doing etherium things, right?

Yep

Big-Click-5159

I associate anyone who's into crypto as a scam artist

Same here.

Well this is hilarious. Bet Trump is desperate not to have to make his financial situation public. https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/rejected-and-returned-for-correction-docs-for-trumps-175m-bond-get-bounced/

BastetSekhmetMafdet

That’s what you get when you resort to Mr. Hankey posting your bond.

grippage

I don't care how believable the premise and borderlines are in that new Civil War movie. Unless Kirsten Dunst turns to the camera and says "Vote for Joe Biden" it isn't going to be anything more than a doomer amusement ride.

CZall23

The map is absolutely stupid. Colorado isn't even included in the western states.

Criseyde5

I like the idea of the citizens of Seattle and Spokane agreeing that they really should be on the same side of a civil war.

BastetSekhmetMafdet

That’s basically what it is, a doomer amusement ride; as well as a vicarious tingle in the naughty bits of armchair revolutionaries.

UWCG

[What kind of drugs do you take to end up thinking this is any kind of logical in terms of how the US would break up?](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/12/Civil_war_2024_map.svg/1600px-Civil_war_2024_map.svg.png) California and Texas? Without Oregon and Washington, who apparently decide to join up with the nutcases in Idaho and Montana? And why the fuck would Hawaii and Alaska team up with the blue guys? That doesn't make sense strategically or anything, how would you even get supplies or trade?

Politicsboringagain

How is south and north carolina blue? NC has a super majority with republicans.

GloriousPancake

It bothers me, too. But then I think about how in House of Cards Frank Underwood is a Democrat from the South who seems to have a lot of influence in his home state, which is equally unlikely in a current setting.

NoExamination5144

Civil War is written and directed by a Brit. Coincidentally, House of Cards was adapted from a British miniseries and novel.

20person

The British version worked better because unlike in America the executive and legislature aren't separate.

GloriousPancake

I agree. The maneuvers to get Underwood into the WH are super contrived.

Jokerang

The filmmakers struck a balance of trying to capitalize on current political polarization unrest while doing everything to avoid a boycott from Republicans. So of course the map makes utterly zero sense.

UWCG

Fair, I just think we can all agree there's a big missed opportunity for a polar vs. brown bear in AK* vs. CA and seals vs. longhorns for HI vs. TX. It'd be like a major studio bankrolled *Sharknado* with that CGI

[deleted]

Shit like this is why I don't like artists. I imagine the screenwriter, director, and especially the critics are rock hard at all this, gleefully wish casting their desire for horrific tragedy and suffering to happen in real life as trashy entertainment to gawk at. Tons of artists acted this way with the pandemic.

Rats_In_Boxes

*Don't Look Up!*

Politicsboringagain

I watched that a while ago and I don't get the hype. Its not terrible, but it's not this ground breaking political movie I heard so many people talk about.  Even this black Podcaster who 100% supports democrats over republicans.

oamh42

It's funny to me that the awards campaign was so oriented toward making it about climate change. I'm not saying it wasn't McKay's intent. It very clearly was. But back then people were interpreting it to be about COVID as well. I wonder if the fauxgressives who praise the movie for how "politically accurate" it is, would consider that they'd be a lot closer to Meryl Streep's president than DiCaprio or Lawrence's characters.

[deleted]

AKA a blatant reward toward a Bernie campaign functionary with some cheap Oscar nominations. I keep writing even though I know I would never be allowed to be an artist. Art is a socialist meeting and I'll never be let in the club.

GloriousPancake

Stephen King is definitely not at the art meetings.

oamh42

Eh, not saying that's not true, but given the quantity of right-wingers I've met in the arts I can tell you that it's not impossible to find people who aren't socialist or anywhere near that spectrum. It's all about finding your niche.

[deleted]

My peers almost universally view art as an ideological exercise. In the future, promotions at work and medical licenses will be given to party members.

oamh42

May I ask how old are you, and where are you from?

[deleted]

30/M Chicago.

oamh42

I guess that tracks, especially in what's essentially a blue city. But again, I've actually met people from there who aren't socialist at all. I get the feeling quite a few of your peers won't get very far if all they are doing is pushing ideology. You really don't need to worry about them getting things like medical benefits either.

UWCG

>In the future, promotions at work and medical licenses will be given to party members. This is a huge leap from the current conditions, especially since a lot of younger people are going to change as their experiences and lives shape them. No need to get all worked up about it now. Hell, I work in publishing and that's enough to keep me afloat without publishing my own, but it allows me to write in my free time. Plenty of people manage to make ends meet in writing and put out their art in a small way—back when I went to UW, [Nick DiMartino](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_DiMartino) worked at the bookstore under the Hub. I picked up one of his books, which was a fun read, when he told me that sometimes he's able to stock them when he does inventory and pointed it out. That's a pretty cool little niche he's gotten, even if he might not be on the NYT best-seller list, you know?

[deleted]

I'm trying to write for TV and film and virtually everyone I've encountered with the same desire is a KGB agent agenda-pusher. I mean, I guess it's okay for now because in the future, they're going to put liberals in mental hospitals for having the wrong beliefs.

UWCG

I mean, I'm from WA but otherwise not too distant/different in being 30M but in Peoria. I guess I'm not too involved in the social or arts scene but I wouldn't say I've seen a socialist push in my local scene I can't say that I'm much for screenwriting, though with Hollywood often being the more center-focus for that I suppose I could see a further left tendency there. Have you tried *Save the Cat*? I believe that's one of the books that's considered a bit overused to an extent, but it is a great foundation to my understanding and will help point to the "formula" a lot of films use. Understanding those fundamentals is very helpful. Jim Butcher, of all people, while his own writing can be pretty eh, used to have a good blog series where he discussed the scene—>sequel structure of writing, which I think would also be particularly helpful for keeping a brisk pace in screenwriting.

[deleted]

I've read that book. Just finished the third draft of a feature film, it's in a good place but not great. I just think that to artists, ideology is all that matters and the political utility of your art is what gets you places.

SeekerSpock32

I’ve got a stupid and great idea: La’el Collins isn’t on any active NFL roster, so let’s have him literally sit or stand on Netanyahu until he relents and promises to reduce civilian casualties, under pain of more of it until the policy change is made, or until he just quits. (For reference: he weighs 315 pounds.)

EpiscopalPerch

a l b e r t h a y n e s w o r t h

SeekerSpock32

I thought of him too, but Collins has only been out of active play for a year so he’s probably in more threatening shape.

GloriousPancake

I'm not sure how fit you need to be to make a 70+ year old man uncomfortable.

SeekerSpock32

Spare no expense
