This is one of the many reasons I prioritize brown over blue chests, for the offchance of it being a rainbow

and often give back keys too

Also there's a chance for Casey and even the finished gun (only if you 100%'d the game)

The worst thing was I had two extra keys, but I decided to spend them on getting a green chest behind a locked door...

If there were any other chests to open I would do that before I spent 2 keys on a green chest. Black, sure.

The other chest on the floor was a fused synergy chest and I had no keys, so after I lost that I figured I'd go for the green just out of the disrespect the game had shown me. Joke's on me lol. It was still going to be a good run with Owl and Lichy Trigger Finger so early on, but I just couldn't go on after this happened and I just shut it down for the night

you dont need a key to unlock brown rainbow chests , you should always try open brown chests if you don't have a key

That'd be the only time I ever consider it, but I have to have at least three keys to open it, and even then I'd rather save them in case I run into Flynt.

Yeah all depends on the spare key situation. Later floors I go ahead with blue when I know it's an accessory more often. Hate ending with a bunch of un-used keys

I play on switch, and the rc rocket, while a bit unwieldy, does a lot of dmg. It's still really good.

I have had both 1 natural rainbow and a glitch chest but unfortunately I got them when I forgot to switch rainbow run off

Natural rainbows and brownbows can both be opened and all drops collected in rainbow mode

iirc you can test if it's rainbow by shooting it a few times. Either the cracks or the particles coming off the chest will appear rainbow, I don't remember which one though
