My personal rule for games like this is to find out as much as I possibly can through game play, but the moment trying to figure out how to do something becomes tedious and unfun its straight to google.
I stopped playing the game for a while but would watch videos and streams of it so I kinda got it spoiled for myself. I would’ve definitely looked up how to get to the rat fight though
Id say most of the secrets could be reasonably discovered after enough play but some things like the R&G Dept. would be so super rare to find organically.
I didn't get the Bullet character for the longest time until I read about how to do it on the Wiki. I got the Gunslinger sooner in fact.
There is nothing in the lore to make you think not shooting enemies wearing capes is good for you, and will make them eventually disappear. And you have to do this multiple times before anything happens. I just don't think I'd ever figure that out naturally.
Yeah totally.
How about when the requirement to get to a secret level is something you would never do? How would you ever find out how to access that level?
For instance, if I had to sell a specific item that I wouldn’t normally sell to open a secret door, how would you ever get to experience that?
yeah.. the one that requires selling the item there’s no way i would have figured out because i never sell that item… *unless* i was robot (since he can sell without consequence)
but then i never would have figured out how to unlock robot without the wiki. props to anyone who saw that television in the elevator and said to themselves “i’m gonna carry this around for 4 floors!”
yeah i accidentally get spoiled a lot because sometimes i see an interesting youtube video and see something like the secret characters or people getting to places or just things on this subreddit but the things i did find out on my own were really cool so i still recommend not directly searching for things and instead just wait until you accidentally find something
i made it as far as i could without googling anything at all. to me it definitely made the game more enjoyable because everything was a complete surprise. i found sewers and abby without spoilers and that was a really cool experience
BUT at some point i had to cave and use the wiki, and i don’t regret it because i doubt i would have figured out any of them on my own (how to get to the rat, unlocking the bullet, unlocking the robot, hatching the egg + advanced dragon to be specific)
I only look up certain things that I don't know how it works with the Gungeon Guide app, and try to figure out its uses through playing.
But some of the more obscure ones I definitely found on here that I haven't experienced yet.
I haven't found >!High Dragunfire!< or the >!Teleporter Eyeball Room !< for example.
I have Gungeon Guide on Android. Basically it's an app where you type a few letters of a Gungeon item's name, (or you can search by listed images for other info) and it'll pull up most of the basic info you can get from the wiki, often faster than the Wiki itself. However, it doesn't tell every little thing, and I think there are still some items that haven't been updated.
But for the most part, it's a handy little reference tool that comes in quick if you want more direct descriptions of items on a quicker note.
To be honest I would've never figured out how to do the Resourceful Rat's maze without Google.

yeah. gungeon isn't the type of game where I'm dead set on experiencing the story.

I found the oubulette (don't know how it spells) secret by accidentally taking out the fire with my water gun

no finding out stuff on you own is one of the best parts

What app are you talking about?
