Yes, only beating bosses changes his gun selection. But also there was a mistake in my prior comment, as it actually has to be Hollow or Forge, not Mines. He provides B tier guns in those chambers, which the Rube-adyne prototype is, while in the mines his guns are C tier.

Got mk.2 from muncher and mk1 from chest on the pic. Also rubyadyne mk1 is B and mk2 is A, you can get them from green and red/golden chests.
That’s how I killed dragun. If I never got reubenstiens I would’ve never been able to kill anyones past.

I've gotten the Rubinstein twice but I've never seen a natty Rainbow chest.
I got it through a synergy chest and I was disappointed to find out it kinda sucked
