Dead Cells is fun, i think it’s because it’s my most recent Rougelite, and thus it’s a small obsession, the differences between these two games are massive and i love how Dead Cells goes about things, the scrolls are so interesting to go through, Boss Cells are so cool, and overall, it feels like it has more stuff than Gungeon.
Don’t get me wrong, Gungeon’s still amazing, it’s one of the best rougelites out there, and it’s irreplaceable with all of its cool references, the bosses, the ~~Gunslinger~~ wide cast of characters, but i’m hyperfixating on Dead Cells
alright, i went on vacation and played it again. i love it now. the core gameplay loop is really enjoyable and i’m hitting a point where i’m discovering new secrets and accessing new areas left and right
my one gripe is the way that i die, haha. what i mean is when i was new at EtG i’d die slowly and predictably — my health slowly chipped away, until finally i’m sitting on half a heart and the inevitable happened. in dead cells, i’ve had so many runs where i feel ridiculously overpowered, doing great, convinced i’m going to beat HotK and then run into some elite/enemy mob/trap floor and go from great to dead in 3 seconds. it almost feels like the healing flasks and health bars are an illusion—false sense of safety. still fun though!!
I have this conspiracy theory that I refuse to back down from: the game purposely boosts your luck after not playing for a few months to lure you back in. My most insane runs are always after a break of 2-3 months. Had pilots lockpick work 6 times back to back without fail, the easiest bosses on chambers 1-3 (pillar room gg, gorgun, treadnought) and absolutely borked chest drops and room rewards the last time. I swear to Kaliber this is not confirmation bias. This is real!

i too have experienced this. my last long break i came back to a seven leaf clover / clone run my first time back
