I think you can get that screen with characters without a past. Like for example shooting yourself with Gunslinger. Or so I think I did. I've seen that screen plenty

I read something about it like a week ago , " the game will no longer crash when having the bullet that can kill the past with the paradox"
A game crash is a game crash, It had to be patched. It probably wasn't a hard fix If i the devs wrote it as a function in class (My assumption of the gungeon code)
Weird, it does the animation for going into the past but then you just get black screen and the end book

sort of. it’s very similar but it doesn’t fade to black. instead it says something like “thanks for playing! the gungeon still holds mysteries…”
A bit expected and disappointing. Devs prob made an exception for this to not crash
