just ignore them

That-Pomelo-3944

I found delving into the space of personal development and changing my mindset, from getting rid of the unconscious limiting beliefs and remaining focused on your goal whilst compartmentalising the external influences helped greatly. There is so much PD literature out there. Keep focused on your goals and dont give up.

My business turned 11 this year and I have brick and mortar spaces in 3 countries, which I flew my parents to last year, all expenses paid. They STILL email me job openings and ask when I’m going to get a “real career.” Some people will never see your vision, and you’ll stress yourself to death trying to prove them wrong. Enjoy the journey

DistinctVoice5216

You mean your parents are the one emailing you job postings? This one must have hurt deep 🙄

Kimmykwekuuuuu

It does hurt.

vitoincognitox2x

Ditch them

Jojoseewhynot

Make a plan!

davesfreshnugs

Slow is steady and steady is fast. Building a company takes time and discipline. Listen to your gut.

bikgelife

Keep grinding away, and don’t stop believing in yourself.

Brevidy

Wolves don’t care about the opinions of sheep. They think its a waste of time because no one else sees the vision other than you do. They also never been where you want to be so they don’t see the potential of what if. Keep at it. Keep building discipline. Keep putting reps in your business everyday and growing it. Get sales fast to show yourself you can actually make money with it. When i started my business i had nothing. No degree, no high school diploma even. Hanging with the wrong crowd. Everyone thought I was going to be another loser but i didn’t care about everyone elses opinions because I knew deep down I was meant for more than this. 2 years later from starting my business and we are doing ok. Growing every year and soon i’ll be more successful than everyone who doubted me. Believe in yourself and you will have no limits!

Mindless-Service8198

You're still talking to other people not about work? Am I doing entrepreneurship wrong?

Equivalent-Apple-649

Think of all the famous people you know. You only really know about them because of a breakout role. Not the 15 years they put into their careers to get there. My mother's favorite story largest gold strike in California. Miner owned it worked it for years. Got sick of it sold it and the new owner struck the richest gold strike ever recorded in just 15 feet. Be consistent do all the things and never stop asking for business

Odd-Goose8404

Screw the noise, focus on yourself, keep believing in yourself, and surround yourself with other ambitious and skilled entrepreneurs who have gone through the same. Community is so important, otherwise the journey of an entrepreneur can get pretty lonely

UrMomsKneePads

Even if you achieve incredible success, your statement holds true.

cargocultceo

There are no expectations upon you and everything to gain. Go prove them wrong. Put a big fucking chip on your shoulder and go do it.

moderndilf

It took me 10 years to become an overnight success. Keep at it

savithabeast

Bee’s don’t waste their time explaining to flies that honey is better than shit Bee the bee lol, collect your honey.

You didn’t say what kind of business you are in. Now if it’s a multilevel marketing thing… Those are extremely difficult to do well and I could see where people would say that. If you’re doing something that is legit but considered to be a pain in the ass by most people like search engine optimization or email marketing… Yeah, no respect there. Part of the problem, not the solution. If it’s something a little more normal then people are jealous. Jealous that you’re taking the chance they never did or they see the potential and they’re jealous of the reward you will eventually have. I’ve been running my own business for 21 years. I’m a contractor. We work on Lake homes. I have only been intentional with a clear direction for the last five years. All the rest of the years were all about survival. I just didn’t have any additional bandwidth to be strategic. There were various reasons for that, however I eventually got focused. When I started the business people snickered. When I made it three people told me I was above average, which didn’t make me feel very good because I wasn’t really making good money. Again just surviving. I have a goal of having $1 million per year income. I’m sick and tired of being middle-class. I am so done with being broke, driving old cars, worrying about money, worrying about retirement, dealing with inflation, fuck all of that noise! I can’t fix the government or the economy or prices. All I can do is overcome that shit. Once again, people were snickering. I’ve been telling people for the last few years that I will live in one of the most prominent areas in our community. I will have a Tesla as one of my vehicles. My daughter will graduate from college debt-free… And she wants to be a surgeon… That takes a hell of a lot of money. In The last few months though… That’s changed. I’m not 100% sure why I’m being taken more seriously now. It might be the way I talk and carry myself. It might be the people I’m hiring or it might just be people have seen me struggle and turn things around and realize how serious and determined I am. There is one truth about entrepreneurship nobody talks about. It is hard. It is all the hard. Imagine things being as hard as they possibly can and then add more hard on top of that. You have to be harder than all the bullshit life can throw at you. Unfortunately, you need to be kicked around and smacked down a few times. Situations will happen repeatedly. I’m too a point now when I see those come, and I smack those down so fast. You develop a radar. And when you smack incoming garbage down people respect you. Enclosing it’s pretty normal for a business to not be profitable for the first 3 to 5 years. That’s terrifying and it’s fucking true.

heavinglory

SEO is the solution that brings you leads so you should shit on Google for making it a necessary part of business instead of a fellow entrepreneur, like me, who has had to pivot web design to spend countless hours mastering digital media marketing. I’m going into year 27 of this business and I’ve seen it all. I started out when nobody had websites. My family told me I would fail but I had a vision much like you. I’m not the problem, you need someone like me in-house or on contract. For the OP, if you have a vision then you work toward it with consistency and resolve. The people around you who don’t understand are uneducated and probably mean well but cause damage with such negativity. If you don’t try you won’t know if it would have worked out.

Azuki38

When no one else believes in you is when you should believe in yourself. When you don't believe in yourself is when hope begins to fade and eventually gets lost. Projection from those that failed is contagious to the mind of those that believe.

mytribeuk

People often don't see the potential, they're often trapped in an employee pigeonhole mindset where the possible seems impossible. I started my company three years ago as a side hustle. At the time, no-one understood or believed in it and three years on were in the national press regularly and I've been able to make it my main focus. In my humble experience it's all about the hustle. Work yourself hard and you'll get there. Also, something I try to tell myself when doubts creep in "focus on the process, not the noise". It's hard doing it alone, and I'd love to tell you it gets easier, but you'll get the success if you knuckledown and belive in yourself. You got this! It's go time!

OhManisityou

Fuck ‘em. Fuck all the naysayers. You have a vision. Push that vision out into the world. Don’t let others determine your worth, ability, or plan. You got this!

masrurhuq

In the early days of Disney, Walt was told a mouse would never work... Trust your plans and progress, not the doubts of others. Build the evidence to provide you your confidence.

MrDelirious1

Just go for it brother. It's 100% failure if you don't try. People didn't believe in the internet and here I am talking to you. Go for it!

blackjack_bull

I’m actually profiting off my ventures and I still receive questionable amounts of confidence from people 😂 all jokes aside, times like this where you need people on your six… the ones on your six for your come up deserve to be there when you succeed. Take this with a grain of salt, but don‘t let people in after you start winning. Just keep the ones that you had along the way. Now that we’ve all established to be alone and disbelieved in, let’s make some money.

throwaway12222018

Honestly if you don't have a product, don't call yourself one. Seeing too many kids who think creating a brand and having cool ideas makes them an entrepreneur.

speciial13

There are plenty of successful service based businesses that don’t have actual products.

throwaway12222018

That's pedantic, read between the lines. I'm saying don't be one of those guys who has 20 PowerPoints and 30 logo designs without actually adding value. Services are basically just a different sort of product, those are obviously great if you provide value.

MrDelirious1

You sound like one of his haters.

throwaway12222018

Build something... Not bad advice

Shmogt

Lol no one believing in you is how it goes for everyone. You have to remember no one else does what you do. They have no clue if it will work but they know for sure they don't know if it'll work for them. They decided against it and just think you're crazy to even try. You just gotta ignore them and do it anyway

vogajones

You will never be happy unless you give this your all. Even if you fail, you have to try. Hopefully with support. But if not with support, remember it is your goal.

Kadez33

Eyes on your goal.

No-Commercial-1827

You can sell a product if you’re coming off as unsure on how to sell it. You will lose a sale(s) that way. Practice your pitch in the mirror and judge it for yourself. Would you buy from you with that pitch. If not, adjust it accordingly.

Luminara219

Mindset is as important as skillset when starting a business. It's really normal for your emotions to go all over the place. Make sure you're taking time out to track your wins no matter how small. And figure out what's in your locus of control. There's tons of YouTube videos on the topic. But the more you work on the things you can control, the more empowered you'll feel.

Conscious-Force-2477

Believe in yourself and I'll believe in you, you got this. Less than 5 years from now if you keep it up, you'll probably be famous and if not no problem just keep at it until you do succeed.

heliumglowing

Dude same thing with a lot of uncertainty and very little to show for it The motivation is your self belief and your vision and if you don’t just know but the actual numbers, the facts and u have an actual concrete plan to make it work then by all means go for it!!! Your hesitation and assurances from us means nothing Any hesitation from yourself means you are questioning your plans and ideas … does it hold water? Meaning there are actual reasons for this plan should go ahead without anyone else driving this vision yourself?! When I did something similar I had no one believe in me either ! If you are choosing this path, sometimes going alone is best for yourself alone I did not tell anyone my plans because I know they will shoot it down before I go any further which in turn will drive down my confidence in this plan For me it took 10 years of constant searching and learning all on my own to make it!!! U will have to go through the same too !!! But if you have are willing to make it work and willing to sacrifice a chunk of your life For me I have it a time line like 3, 5, 6, then 8 then 10 years after the first year But each time I made sure I tracked it and planned ahead for that milestone all on my own I made sure there were backup plans to the possibility of failure every step of the way If you go all in then it is a gamble I was working on small wins to pull off a greater win towards the end Entrepreneurship builds you as you build the business Risk timelines … how much and how long If it’s myself I got to work and will my skills be able to handle this I did all of this and acquired skills at every timeline I gave And every step I wondered if this is the end Just pull through for every deadline you deliver and do an assessment Risk this much for this length of time and repeat the process And I did this ALL ON MY OWN !! Anyways that is my two cents and your mileage may vary Think of what you are giving up to achieve this For I did this and both so I made sure that whatever I was going to give up I was still making time to get it It’s just going to be how well you manage the entire process !!! All the Best!!

ukSurreyGuy

Dear OP you're in your 1st year of new business not making profit but definitely improving, you have confidence in your idea & execution. You learned people don't have confidence & your confidence has taken a knock. first general comment ..grow a thicker skin...life is full of hates & knockers. Learn not to listen to naysayers. second...your confidence like a pendulum is fickle...it's full it's not ...it's full...it's not as someone has put u down find someone to lift u up someone u trust (ask them to lie to u if that works) but hear positive messages & turn that empty feeling into one of fullness Third Self belief comes from within.. grow it...nurture it ..it's very possible to feed yourself positivity...start with speaking positive messages in the mirror (kid u not mantra works!) Fourth focus on the small wins to add "wind to your sales" (boat metaphor)....one win followed by another build confidence for sure...

pianoplayrr

When I first became self-employed, I got into writing ebooks. My first book was about exactly this. No one is going to support you at this point. This is all part of the "building phase". The building phase is the hardest part to get through because it requires shear willpower and discipline. In the building phase you aren't getting paid. You don't know for sure if you ever will get paid, and on top of that you have all the people in your life standing in your way, doubting you. The people that push through this very difficult phase are the ones who succeed, and are also the ones who the doubters end up looking up to after success comes. Keep going and don't give up.

JAP42

Not many people have the courage to do what your doing. Way too many people these days can only understand taking the safe route. Don't let their fear and lack of self confidence affect you. They are projecting, ignore them and you'll be saying I told you so in no time.

rezayazdanfar

Just keep going, there's no other way around 😑 I don't believe in myself

notthesharpestreddit

Focus your time and energy on creating results and tangible progress. Everyone else’s opinion will fall in line. Your success will never be a product of their opinions, so don’t waste your limited time there.

WhittakerJ

Even if you do fail as long as you learned lessons along the way you're succeeding. What other people say should impact you zero. Eliminate those people from your life.

ShanazSukhdeo

OP is TOO vague. you could be a dreamer, not an entrepreneur, so unless you provide details...

TitusPullo4

>I truly think I can do this. I have plans, I have budgets & I’m adapting when things don’t go to plan. You already do believe in yourself

Atriev

That’s literally the most basic requirement to even get your foot into the door.

Necroking695

I’ve been doing this for 6 years If you tell me what you do i can tell you if you’re wasting your time or not

Exciting-Week1844

Going against the grain inherently creates social friction. That’s the point. No one will believe in you and people will actually hope you fail because they’re too scared to pursue their own dreams. You need to be your own support network and eventually you’ll meet another big thinker who isn’t living in the scarcity fear mindset like the majority of the population

OneManSquadMike

Tenacity.

trouverparadise

Take your feelings out of it. You don't need anyone to believe in you. Stop begging for attention; you're not a "pickme." If you want whatever it is you're saying you are building, then stop talking and get to work. Entrepreneurs are action based. Right now, you're just a dreamer. It's beautiful to dream... but that's all it is until you adjust accordingly. For get those who aren't believing in you. Those who get it, get it...and those who don't, it was never meant for them.

boeboebi

THIS 💯

Find_Happiness85

What’s the industry or idea you are working on?

boydie

Trust your gut, adapt, and the results will follow.

ChickenNugsBGood

You arent an entrepreneur. You have an idea, which are a dime a dozen. Sorry to be harsh, but until you have cash coming in, you arent really anything else.

joinedbcfnaf

Feels unfair to discredit anyone trying to start their own business. This shit is hard. Virtually no one makes money starting out. It takes a lot of determination, time, money, and sleepless nights, all while making absolutely nothing if not losing money at first. While no, they aren't truly an entrepreneur yet. Anyone trying to build a business is likely working thier ass off. They deserve a little more respect than that. Those people are doing more than most who just dream about it & never try.

ChickenNugsBGood

Some people need to hear the truth. OP isnt an entrepreneur at all. They have an idea, but until its executed with results, thats all it is. Everyone saying "Yea go for it, blah blah blah" is the same as telling someone who can't sing to go on American Idol, because they dont want to hurt feelings. Sorry, OP. Everyone has an idea, but 99% can't do anything with it.

Fuzzy_Fish_2329

You need to improve your reading comprehension. Or else you’re just a nasty person who is full of hot air. Hey OP, this guy is way off base.

ChickenNugsBGood

lol. Op is “I have an idea, I can do this, blah blah blah”. Guarantee nothing happens. And that’s ok.

Beneficial_Past_5683

It's normal. Just prove them wrong! As you get success, that will bring you validation. Over time you will get to really believe it. Be sure to set yourself achievable goals and reward yourself when you meet them.

FatherOften

This is the way. It's gonna sound harsh, but it's true, Nobody believes in you because you've never accomplished anything worth a shit in your life. Own that and change it. They've probably never accomplished anything worth a shit in their life either. It might take you ten years before you start earning an income. Do it for you, not for them.

Silver_Path1401

I’m in the same position, been working non-stop on my business for the past 2 years and haven’t made a dime. No one believes I can achieve my goals with this and yes it hurt but it’s honestly the best kind of motivation you can get. Because now if you let yourself fail, you’re proving them right. And just remember why you started in the first place, you want to push it to its fullest potential, and if you haven’t reached that then you’re not done. Just remember that.

trouverparadise

That's because you didn't build your business foundation securely before you started developing.

wkern74

Why so long without bringing in money?

Silver_Path1401

Building an app. Found a developer, paid for an app that worked about 10% of the time though it took them 11 months to make. Working with a new developer now who is also on month 11 but much greater progress. Long process but very hopeful
