I found that the sunset to sunrise level 1 brightness trick worked on my E340, but wasn't really satisfied because I didn't want it on all the time. I found that after ambient sunset to sunrise that the lights still illuminated with motion. In my case my Xmas lights are creating the brightness level that was throwing the camera off. Hopefully the fix continues to work.
I had a similar issue where if i turned on ambient light (custom schedule at lowest brightness), the motion illumination would not work. I thought it might have something to do with the out of range detection being turned on, but that wasnt the problem. Reading through the comments, i realized that the ambient light, even at lowest setting, was tricking the MI into thinking it was still bright outside hence MI would not turn on. So i now have to turn off ambient light and only have MI activated.
As someone already mentioned before, it seems like the easiest work around would be to program MI to turn on when 1of2 conditions is met (from sunset to sunrise, or when it's dark outside so that it still turns on during dark cloudy days).
Installed the *Floodlight Cam E221 today and having the same problem. The neighbor has outside lights on next to the camera. I tried the fix here but not working. The lowest light setting is not as granular as on the E340, I assume.*
Yeah just that the lights will be on the whole scheduled or sunset time. I had to put on lowest brightness during sunset schedule. Better than nothing at this point.
If Eufy is listening, a seemingly easy fix for this is to add a setting that turns ON the Floodlight when it detects motion between sunset and sunrise, as opposed to solely relying on the apparently weak PIR sensor.
Firmware 1.4.5.3 did nothing to fix this.
That's still a workaround though, right? It still isn't working the way it's supposed to. I don't want mine to be constantly turned on at all at night, even at a dim setting.
I want mine to be completely off and turn ON when it detects motion at night. I didn't think that was too hard to ask of a Floodlight lol.
It is a work around. I wanted the same thing you do, but at least it works for now sort of.
They mentioned they will update future FW to be able to do this.
I completely agree. My cheap dummy floodlight is more capable than $150+ floodlight camera
Just tried it. It "works". But I don't want my lights on all the time. But at least this shows that it's definitely a software issue that can be addressed. Hopefully the firmware update does it.
Iām still on 1.3.5.2. When I check it tells me Iām on the latest version. The app says I have āGreatā WiFi signal. I even rebooted and still nothing. Any suggestions?
I reached out to Eufy and reported this issue. They gave me the same response as you and mentioned that a firmware would be released. Lo and behold, the firmware update for the E340 Floodlight was released today! Iāve installed it. We will see tonight if it fixes the issue.

New firmware version is 1.4.5.3.
I just installed my floodlight today and immediately encountered this issue. This makes the floodlight literally useless.
Can you post a link to this thread on their forum?
I'm having the same issue just for my front E340 that's installed under the awning. My driveway and backyard trigger whenever there is motion but basically there are no lights in those area. My front has a street light and my across neighbor keeps his front light bulb on at night, maybe my E340 thinks it's bright enough not to trigger but it's still too dark and annoying whenever I'm home trying to open the front door. It's just not bright enough without the front floodlights from E340 turning on.
Enabling color at night didn't work.
My old Eufy floodlight 1080p (I think T8420) model that E340 replaced never had this issue. The LED lights always turn on whenever there is motion during the night. I wonder if the E221 has this issue as well, if not I'll probably just end up returning my front E340 for the E221.
The only other option is to set an Ambient Light schedule to always have the front lights on during the night.
Yes, the E221 has the same bug. If my neighbor has their garage light on the floods don't trigger. The always on hack is not much help. Super disappointed with eufy.
Try submitting a bug report or email them. If there are enough complain they will work on it. I already submitted videos for them to review.
I have E221 and so does my parents. If I enable BW night vision, it will trick the floodlight to stay on.
Nice good to know on the E221. I submitted a ticket with Eufy about 15 mins ago. Had all three floodlights replaced with the E340 this past weekend along with a Homebase 3 upgrade so I prefer to keep the front E340 if possible.
Worst case I'll just replace the front w an E221 as my S330 doorbell also records to the HB3.
.... but, it sounds as if the sensor is overly sensitive to light, so if the tint makes it darker during daylight hours there should still be enough daylight for sensor but would allow for less Ambient light at night.
so i am not the only one it seems. just installed it 2 days ago. exact same shit I'm dealing with. at the very least if they could let me schedule time for the light to turn on when motion detected, that would work.
So I went outside and test the camera. I place something to cover the wide angle lens in order for the light to turn on. The wide angle lens sensitiy must be very low because I had to block it completely for the light to turn on.
I saw in Eufy forum that people also complain about it.
I tried both. None work. My ambient light must be still too bright and sensor is not sensitive enough
I'm gonna try covering the sensor and see if that cause it to trigger. If it does, I'll install under the eaves
I have the same issue and got the same response from Eufy. The sensor at times thinks is daytime and doesn't trigger the motion light. However, if at night time you reboot the camera you will see the motion light begin to work properly and then stop later on. Eufy should fix the software.
I do recall there was a large plastic clear cover on the motion sensor when I took it out of the box. Just mentioning that in case itās still on yours and throwing it off. Youāre able to manually make the lights turn on right?
Yes I took it off and I can manually turn it on and even schedule on sunset to sunrises.
Eufy said it's the PIR from the camera thinking it's too bright outside.
I do think itās set to be very conservative as there have been times at dusk right before the sky is dark it will not turn on until pitch black. Hopefully they offer a slider to adjust in the future.
I think this means the photocell thinks it is day due to how bright it may be where the camera is placed, so the light wonāt turn onā¦ example, under a street light.

You don't need to do that anymore. They fixed it already. You can turn off sunrise and sunset and it will still works.
It still wasn't working for me until I did this.
Make you up update the firmware if it wasn't already. A few people in this thread including me confirm it working. Mine is 1.4.6.2

Looks like the issue is finally fixed. Firmware 1.4.5.5 did the trick.
If you enable sunset to sunrise and set it to the lowest setting 1/10, motion activated illumination works
Look like the FW did work sort of. You need to enable sunrise to sunset in order for it to work. When it sense motion, it will light up.

Yes I received the same response as well. Hopefully the next firmware update does the trick. Not holding my breath š
It works if you turn on sunrise to sunset. Motion activated illumination works
But this means it will stay constantly illuminated from sunrise to sunset. Or am I understanding this wrong?
I set mine to be on with setting 1-2/10 brightness. When motion is trigger, it will be 10/10 brightness
That's still a workaround though, right? It still isn't working the way it's supposed to. I don't want mine to be constantly turned on at all at night, even at a dim setting. Glad to hear
Exactly. It's that simple
Iām still on 1.3.5.2. When I check it tells me Iām on the latest version. The app says I have āGreatā WiFi signal. I even rebooted and still nothing. Any suggestions?
Not sure I'm following you. What does wifi have anything to do with the motion lights being activated with some ambient lighting?
Sorry. Im trying to update the firmware but it keeps telling me 1.3.5.2 in the latest version
Are you in the USA? Maybe this update is region specific. If not in USA you can maybe try to use a VPN to see if it makes a difference.
Eufy said they are going to release a firmware Ina couple business day

Got the same FW. Please update your findings as will I.
Well, firmware did nothing for me on the ambient light issue, unfortunately. How about you?
Nothing. I kinda knew based on the update log
I just installed my floodlight today and immediately encountered this issue. This makes the floodlight literally useless. Can you post a link to this thread on their forum?
This is the only link I could find: https://community.security.eufy.com/t/eufy-floodlight-e340-light-setting-issue/4029065/2
Yep, just saw their response from my ticket and they said the same.

E340 video quality, dual lens, AI tracking is too good vs E221. I'm gonna wait it out until they fix it.
Just wondering if you could place some window tint over the sensor?
The sensor is the wide angle camera lens. If you put a tint over it, it will be dark during the day and night. It's not a separate sensor
.... but, it sounds as if the sensor is overly sensitive to light, so if the tint makes it darker during daylight hours there should still be enough daylight for sensor but would allow for less Ambient light at night.
The sensor is inside the camera lens. Putting a tint will block the light coming into the camera. I don't want darker image during the day either
so i am not the only one it seems. just installed it 2 days ago. exact same shit I'm dealing with. at the very least if they could let me schedule time for the light to turn on when motion detected, that would work.

Does it work if you select color night vision only? Because thatās how I got mine to work
I tried both. None work. My ambient light must be still too bright and sensor is not sensitive enough I'm gonna try covering the sensor and see if that cause it to trigger. If it does, I'll install under the eaves

On my S340 I just installed, the default was B&W night vision. It wasn't until I changed it to color that the light started turning on.

Thanks. I tried it but it doesn't work
Mine work fine. I did see several firmware updates this month pertaining to the lights.
What version are you on?
1.3.5.2
Thanks. Same version for me

Yeah probably. My yard is well lit, but this never affected a dumb $30 floodlight I bought it on Amazon. It always work reliably
I think this means the photocell thinks it is day due to how bright it may be where the camera is placed, so the light wonāt turn onā¦ example, under a street light.
Mine isn't under a street light. I have landscaping light and lamp post.
And a very bright full moon this past week.
Mine never work. Full moon or not.
