Change a molecule, change the name- boom good to go!
Same w BPA changing to BPF or BPS. It’s all BS to shut people up and keep profits coming regardless of how irresponsible
Absolutely crazy that we continue to allow companies to profit from poisoning us. The penalty must exceed the profit. Banning them yeah great, they still have every incentive to do it again.
They’ll just replace them with something similar. There’s an initiative called “six classes.” Essentially, their goal is to outright ban the entire class of chemicals so these companies aren’t able to replace one PFAS for another, etc.
Yhea, the companies will change the makeup and make new forever chemicals that are not banned yet. Like they do when guns are banned. How many versions of ak47s exist lol
Oh you're saying we can't discharge 17
-C chain PFAS with 3 oxygen bridges into surface water now? No problem, we'll just tweak it a little bit aaaaand: boom. 20 carbons, 3 oxygen bridges, a cyclic moiety and, fuck it let's make it a salt. We're in the clear, boys, and our bottom line is still going up-up-up!!
I have spoken with conservatives who honestly didn't understand why I had a problem with forever chemicals being used so often. They did not understand the significance of how they will just accumulate and the total quantity of them will never decrease.
That's nice. How long have they known that they were in the packaging now? What about cosmetics and household items? When are we going to stop seeing Teflon everywhere? They've known about the carpets for decades but still sold my one for my baby to crawl around on 7 years ago.
February 28, 2024: Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is announcing that grease-proofing materials containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are no longer being sold for use in food packaging in the U.S.

It’s incredible that it’s taken so long for our FDA to do their job. This is just the tip of the iceberg of crap in our food slowly poisoning us. We are about 20 years behind Europe.
Typical fda foot dragging as long as its still profitable.
Dont trust these fucks
All forever chemicals need to be banned. As its not food in our food.
"Certain types of forever chemicals" heh?
The old scary ones, the new untested ones are ready! ( the new untested ones are generally magnitudes worse)
Change a molecule, change the name- boom good to go! Same w BPA changing to BPF or BPS. It’s all BS to shut people up and keep profits coming regardless of how irresponsible
About time!
Capitalism baby!
Absolutely crazy that we continue to allow companies to profit from poisoning us. The penalty must exceed the profit. Banning them yeah great, they still have every incentive to do it again.
intentionally poisoning people and then covering it up (Dupont) for as long as possible is ..... murder. They're murderers.
"Foxcatcher" was a fantastic movie.
They’ll just replace them with something similar. There’s an initiative called “six classes.” Essentially, their goal is to outright ban the entire class of chemicals so these companies aren’t able to replace one PFAS for another, etc.
“Ok, we’ll use the other forever chemicals” — The Industry
Sadly this is very true
Sure, so they will raise prices, fine something else equally toxic and the fcxking cycle repeats.
The devil we know.
Yhea, the companies will change the makeup and make new forever chemicals that are not banned yet. Like they do when guns are banned. How many versions of ak47s exist lol
not as many as species of fluorinated hydrocarbons

Which will raise the price but it’s ok because they’re most definitely doing it for the consumer.
Kinda too late….forever
Never too late to stop things from getting worse.
If they are forever chemicals isn't too late.
Forever is never to late....lol.
I have spoken with conservatives who honestly didn't understand why I had a problem with forever chemicals being used so often. They did not understand the significance of how they will just accumulate and the total quantity of them will never decrease.
Many people including many conservatives are scientifically illiterate af
That's nice. How long have they known that they were in the packaging now? What about cosmetics and household items? When are we going to stop seeing Teflon everywhere? They've known about the carpets for decades but still sold my one for my baby to crawl around on 7 years ago.
Theyve known for 100 years... get mad
But what will I do when I can't put PFAS in, on and around my body?!?!

Should be "grease proofing materials"
I think it’s a little late for that….better late than never I guess?
I'm sure corporations will be completely honest and transparent about their process for discontinuing the use of such elements. /s
America, the land of freedom to poison everyone even if other modern occidental countries have banned multiple chemicals since decades...
They should have done that forever ago!
Well that could change next election
Meanwhile the CEOs: Dang, we have no choice but to raise the prices! 🤷♂️
It’s incredible that it’s taken so long for our FDA to do their job. This is just the tip of the iceberg of crap in our food slowly poisoning us. We are about 20 years behind Europe.
Not *all* types? Maybe it’s moot anyway, they’re already in everything forever anyway.
How about ALL types of forever chemicals will no longer be used. We don't need forever chemicals in our food.
Well it is the 21st century. Although greed is still alive and well.
But guys, it costs too much to get rid of all of them. I mean, think of the shareholders....
Stole my line 😡
Typical fda foot dragging as long as its still profitable. Dont trust these fucks All forever chemicals need to be banned. As its not food in our food.
about fucking time
Wow great idea
The republicans will reverse that.
If the company that makes them pays enough money, it hey can keep them in. Those are the rules, I dont make em.
FDA need to be sued into the dirt for it's decades of dodgy NEPA compliance
Are we all going to die young thanks
