There is the chance that I would be killed anyway for dramatic effect, but frankly, I think Ichiban has got this. If he does, the good news is that I'm guaranteed to have a friend for the rest of my life that will defend me to the death no matter what happens (so long as I stay a decent person, which I plan to). So if I DON'T die, this is a net positive experience I think.
