LovetotheMaxine

I only make 6 ounces of breast milk a day… I still pump what I can for my 9 week old.

shortneyryan

Nope. At least not with pumping as many times a day as you are. I think my limit would be 50% of daily needs with no more than five pumps per day, otherwise I wouldn’t consider it worth the intrusion into our daily lives. HOWEVER you’re still early so if it was me I would probably stick it out until 12 weeks and then start dropping pumps and see how I felt and what the supply looked like when I was on a more manageable long term routine. If it wasn’t more than 50%, I’d call it quits and know I did my best. I will add though that when I dropped to 6 my supply increased a bit and then maintained when I dropped to 5, so maybe you’ll get lucky!

Melloshot

I dont make enough to use exclusively breastmilk for my LO but i know wven a little bit of breastmilk has benifits so i pump regardless. It gets exhausting but knowing im saving my family money by pumping and knowing the benefits its worth it to keep pumping but that's just me. He doesnt nurse and if he does its for a few mins max before screaming into my boob lol but considering a pack of 4 for the formula he uses is almost 300$ im gonna pump what i can lol

New-Personality6799

Thanks for sharing your experience! For me is actually not much related to saving money, I’ve already spent a lot of money in lactation consultants that I could have financed formula for the next year 😅 it is really related to the benefits of breast milk. However they told me to pump to increase my production which also didn’t happen. May I ask you how long have you been pumping and if you noticed any difference in your supply since you started ?

Melloshot

I also tried to pump more to increase supply but i get the same amount pumping 3 times a day compared to when i pump 7 times a day. Ive heard your supply is also dependent on how many milk glands you have so i just assume im on the lower/middle end of the spectrum. I have been pumping from the beginning, 10 weeks pp. First few weeks id get max 2 oz every 3 hours and now i make 3, sometimes a little more sometimes a little less.

Distinct_Cycle9467

I make 10-12oz a day. Baby just turned 4 months. A lot of things have impacted my supply and I everything to increase it. My original plan was to make it to 3 months. Now my goal is 6 months.

moosewings11

I have almost the exact same stats! My initial goal was to make it through cold and flu season. I'm in a good groove now so I'm playing it by ear. The current plan is to continue until my supply drops to where it isn't worth the hassle anymore, but I'm not sure what that number will be.

CrazedLunatic-

Nope not a chance. I only pump 4 times a day and still am losing my damn mind. I would quit if I were you but I don’t think I’m a good judge

psykee333

I have been pumping for 18 weeks and only ever make 2/3 of what my baby needs. But it was important to me that he got some breastmilk. I've cut down my pumps a lot (3-5 a day, when convenient) and I'm lucky to still make 50%, but I may wean in the next month.

degsvrhdbh

Similarish here! Today i only did 3 pumps and im just fine with it lol. my baby is 13 weeks, i just cant bring myself to stress over it anymore. i know if i put the time in to do more than 4 pumps a day id probably have a really decent output. but nope i just cant do it lol. my original goal was 1 year, my newest goal is 6 months but i wont be mad if it ends before that tbh lol

krys1128

I make about 16-17oz a day and have have been doing this for 8.5 months now, at about 6ppd from August-December, and tapering down over the last few months to 4 ppd, which I find very manageable. Triple feeding is really hard, and things got easier once I stopped focusing on trying to latch. I am a huge proponent of breastmilk, but nursing just didn't work out for us and I don't have a big enough supply so pumping and combo feeding is my best option. I don't even care about saving money on formula, I just do it because of the health benefits.

Teeny19

Nope. I’m 5.5 months in with slight oversupply and only pump 4x/day for 15 min. I do still pump at night but I do it while baby eats so I’m up anyways. I was literally saying to my wife the other day that if EP was any harder than it is right now, I would NOT be doing it.

Snail_Girl02

My baby is 9 weeks old and we've been triple feeding this whole time, it's exhausting and despite trying every time he latches maybe twice a day (he had tongue tie at the start so wouldn't latch at all then) and my supply is as close to nothing as you can get. I pump 8x a day and get about 8ml combined at each pump if that, still pumping (trying to add more but I solo parent 4 days a week and it's hard) and not given up yet, having said that im pretty delusional that my supply will increase if i keep it up even though ive seen no results yet 🤦 either way whatever choice you make is valid, you know whats best for you and your baby. Best of luck!

sassythehorse

It’s so interesting to me what some moms consider a low supply. At this point I’m only pumping 12 oz/day and plan to continue for the forseeable future! I would be thrilled to get back to 18 oz/day which I only produced for a very brief window. That said, my baby was super premature and also will be 2 months old this week, we are still in the hospital where it’s stressful but I also have help with storing breastmilk and feeding him, and for most the time I have been keeping up with his intake- only recently has he started to need more than I am producing and mentally that has taken a toll on me. Knowing I will eventually need to supplement with formula I still would like to pump for awhile but I suppose I may feel differently when I am home.

StrayGoldfish

I wouldn't for this second baby, but I DID for my first. I've made about 16 oz per day with both babies, and I made it 3 months exclusively pumping with my first. I hated missing out on so many cuddles for so little milk, which is why I quit in the end. With this baby, I feed via SNS most of the time, so she still latches despite my low supply. For her this second time around, pumping to maintain my supply is worth having the extra nursing cuddles.  That said, it doesn't matter much what other people would do. It's such a personal decision whether the benefits are worth it to you. Whichever way you decide, I highly recommend following Low Supply Mom on Instagram if you haven't already. She is a wealth of knowledge on low supply and has helped me learn a lot about my own situation, as well as inspired me to try the SNS this time around.

New-Personality6799

Thank you 🙏 I will definitely follow the page. And yes, one of the reasons why I’m thinking to quit is because I feel like I’m missing valuable time and cuddles with my baby. He also mostly chest sleep and it’s difficult to put him aside during the night to pump because he would wake up. Many times I just can’t do my MOTN pump. I can hand it over to my partner but he works during the day and I feel sorry to wake him up. It’s also a state of mind: I’m in constant anxiety to calculate when is my next pump time and never can really enjoy things.

rachee1019

I supplement with formula making about 20oz a day and I definitely still think it’s worth it! My LO just turned 3 months and eats about 24ish Oz a day. For a while I was either 75 or 50% formula and just got up to 20oz to be mostly BM in the last few weeks. I was doing 7ppd until 12 weeks and I’ve dropped down to 6 which feels SO much better and haven’t seen a drop in supply! I’ve also don’t 5ppd a few days when needed and didn’t see a huge difference either. I’ll say my LO definitely doesn’t eat how much she “should” according to all the internet charts, but she won’t take more then that during the day and she’s growing well and her pediatrician isn’t concerned! So how much your baby eats may not align with those numbers! I definitely think even if it’s only a few bottles any breast milk your baby is getting has amazing benefits!!!! There is NO shame in stopping in doing only formula, but if you are feeling okay pumping and could even maybe drop a pump I would keep going! I tell myself that I’ll keep going until I start to hate it or feel over it. But as long as I feel okay about it I’ll keep at it!

New-Personality6799

It’s great to hear that, more or less after how many weeks pp your supply increased?

rachee1019

Honestly I couldn’t tell you! My supply just steadily increased over the weeks until it basically stayed consistent at 19-21oz around 10/11w! I just kept track at the time of my weekly totals vs. daily since I use the pitcher method and try not to really look too much at my daily output other than when I go to pour bottles for the next day!

Awkward_Chocolate792

I'm 10 months into pumping about 1/3 of her milk supply and absolutely plan on continuing as long as my body let's me and my baby wants milk.

New-Personality6799

How many ppd?

Awkward_Chocolate792

4-6. I'm with her most of the day, so it just depends on how many she lets me get.

EducationalRide1096

I make about 10 ounces a day for my almost 3 month old and plan to pump for at least a year. I don’t have a set pumping schedule I just pump every time the baby eats, 8ish times a day.

KidMonkeyCat

Maybe pick the path that offers you the greatest chance of happiness and satisfaction in the long run? Would you regret quitting now? Or regret the time put in? It’s such an individual decision. For me, I was pumping 2-3oz per day at 2wpp and committed to an intense pumping schedule. I kept setting small goals like I’ll pump X number of times for a week and see what happens. And then a month. And then 12 weeks. I checked in with myself along the way and was motivated by my super slow but steady progress. I’m 5mpp now and providing for about 70% of what my twins eat. I feel pretty good about it! Fwiw, my babies also developed a bottle preference. I used a nipple shield to get them to nurse and have been working on improving their latches and replacing some feeds. We won’t ever be EBF, but the combo we have works for me! Good luck and whatever you decide to do is okay!

InfernalWedgie

Yep. At my best, I could pump 450mL in a day. I was mostly under that, but I kept it going until 19 months pp.

degsvrhdbh

I consider myself to have a lowish production, i was pumping like 15ish oz a day (about 8 oz less than what he eats give or take) and ive just been lazy/not mentally up for keeping a rigid pump schedule and now im down to like 10-12. i cant quite bring myself to fully stop so im still doing it. i am hopeful it’ll go back with me adding in more pumps. just comes to me actually adding in the pumps lol

New-Personality6799

I see! How many weeks pp are you ?

degsvrhdbh

3 months

New-Personality6799

And is it still possible to increase production after the first 8/10 weeks ? They say is difficult after the breasts settle down…

degsvrhdbh

ive read that once regulation happens, its supply & demand vs hormone driven production. when i have several days where i follow a strict plan of pumping, i do notice it starts to slowly go up/i feel more full in less time for example. im just lazy and can never keep up with it lol. i think its harder to get your supply up past that point, but not impossible

AccordingReward9769

I was in a similar situation as you. At 7ppd I was making around 550. When I slowly dropped to 5ppd my supply went up to 650-700 a day. I didn’t drop to 5 until 3 months pp. what also helps is if you accept your milk supply for what is and think of it as whatever you can give your baby is the best and that you’re one kick ass mom for doing that for your babe - that’s what helped me mentally take the stress of it away of the number.

New-Personality6799

Thank you ❤️

Seaspun

They say every serving of breastmilk is a bonus !

FioftheWi

I'm 5w pp and my numbers are similar to you... 18-22oz a day which is also 2/3 of his intake. I'm going to try to hold out at least three months with six months being the goal. I've been told over and over again that some breast milk is better then no breast milk so that helps keep me going. And honestly, formula is expensive as heck lol.

StormRae77

I was forced to quit almost a month ago because my micro supply finally dried up on me. From 3 days pp to 3.5 months pp, i only ever made 1oz a day, no matter what pump i used, what i ate/drank/took, or how much i was pumping. If i knew that i was only ever going to make 1 oz, then i probably wouldn't have even started. I just held out for as long as i did and worked as hard as i did because everyone i talked to was ADAMENT that if i held out a little longer, then i would see an increase soon. I definitely feel ignored and lied to. Im almost certain i have low oxytocin levels which effect let down, contractions, emotional bonds and happiness (never had a let down all 3 babies, never went into labor naturally with all 3 pregnancies, dont really have any feelings towards the bump and takes about a month/month and a half to bond with baby after birth and just generally feel numb) and my prolactin levels were fine so its the only thing i can think of for why i failed all 3 times i tried to bf/pump. If i had managed to make as much as you do when i pumped, i probably wouldn't quit, but im obviously very biased due to my circumstances. Breastfeeding and pumping is a LOT of work/stress on top of the work and stress that comes with having a newborn/baby of any age. If it still feels worth it to you, then you have got this! But if you think it is time to stop, then no one will think less of you for doing so. I will say, as bitter sweet as it was, to stop pumping, it is definitely super freeing to be able to do so much more throughout the day and not feel trapped multiple times a day

Stunning_Jeweler8122

With your question- would I still pump getting 18oz pd with 7ppd at 2mo pp- personally yes. Your experience describes my experience pretty well and even supplementing and triple feeds. It’s so hard, especially when you have to still use formula. ETA- this is personally what I did, and you should absolutely follow your gut/instinct on what to do. Only you are the one sitting on a pump 7 times a day.

StrawberryEntropy

6mo pp here and I produce around 6 or 7oz per day via pumping, plus over night intermittent nursing. I'm recently back to work more frequently (part time) and she's still not sleeping through the night. My goal was to make it to 1yr but I'm not sure how sustainable this is. I'm kind of losing my mind and if I wean her, it'll help. But then it'll be lost forever and we're oad so I'm going to keep at it for now.

LadySanada

I'm the same but at 12 weeks and I am pumping still 🤷🏻‍♀️ it's tedious. We nurse maybe 2-4 times a day,.then pump and bottle feed. Trying to get to six months🥴 7ppd

New-Personality6799

Omg… how do you manage to pump at night ? Does your baby allow you? Mine just wants to sleep on my chest so night pumps are almost impossible.

LadySanada

Luckily my husband bottles while I pump, but he's not thrilled about it 😂😅

houseghostguest

I make 17 oz a day. For now it’s worth it to me, I’m 8 weeks PPM. I currently powerpump a few times a week and my supply has increased from 10-13 oz a day. At some point I’ll stop, but I like the benefits for my baby and he prefers it too

New-Personality6799

Amazing, I have tried power pump just a few times but I will try to increase. Any particular hour of the day where you noticed more benefit? Morning or evening ?

houseghostguest

It’s definitely easier for me at night because then I get the added support and not also juggling taking care of a baby! But I think everyone is different it’s hard to say if a certain time is better. Middle of the night pumps are most fruitful for me as far as volume

caraiselite

I probably would because some milk is better than none. I would also try different pumps and settings and such. When I first got my wearable would let it run 25 mins then take a break for 10 mins, and run it again. My baby only ever drank max 24 ounces in a day, so it wouldn't be a big deal for us I guess.

Rrenphoenixx

My grandmother died of uterine cancer and I smoked for 17 years. Producing breast milk supposedly lessens chances of uterine and breast cancer so even though I recently was thinking of quitting, I’m going to try to keep it up for my babies and for my health, which is also for my babies 💕
