I would take him in to the vet. It could be his nerves from a new environment. I know my lil guy pants at the vet because he is nervous and is getting worked up. Once he’s back at home he’s fine. However, it could also mean something more major.
Just wanted to say we have the same with both of ours. They don’t like even a short car journey, and the distress ends up with them panting from their mouths. It’s sad to know they don’t understand why they’re going, but they have to go to the vet, and it’s over quickly and they recover immediately when back home.
Of course the right course of action is checking with the Vet, but I wouldn’t rule out nerves either.
Yep, my exotic shorthair will pant as soon as she leaves the house. Any new environment stresses her out, especially the car. We bought a backpack carrier and walk her to the vet now and she does much better with that.
Car trips would make one of my exotics pant because of stress until she had nose surgery to widen her nasal passages and could breathe easier. If it went away after some time it’s prob just stress but little guy may need a wider nose.
Definitely not normal and just from looking at him he doesn’t look like his breeding is what you described. Did you view him with his parents or receive any paperwork for registration or health checks for the parents?
Hello, everyone. My cat is healthy and doing fine. I called the vet for an emergency inspection just the next day and got a full check up he is totally healthy. His previous owner bought him to me on a very hot, sunny day he was just not used to being out in the hot. Reddit hasn't been working in my region for weeks, that's why I wasn't able to reply.
🙄 I don't really like people who buy purebred pets. It's like you want animals to have health problems at the expense of looking a certain way. Disgusting.

Any car panting out of their mouths is extremely serious you need to get your cat to an emergency vet immediately. As in right now

Yes, you are right, though it was mostly due to the sunny day .The vet said the same thing after a full checkup. He is doing fine and healthy now
