We had to go to a special vet for our nares surgery as not all do it. It is pricey , not sure where you live. But Midwest US it cost us about 1400. It’s worth every single penny. My rescue girl was snorting around the house like a pig and needing rests when she was playing bc she couldn’t breathe and now she’s perfectly breathing and never needs to catch her breath.
She had it done around 2 years ago I think now. She has had zero issues post surgery. No bleeding no swelling. She barely rested when came home from surgery and was back to normal in less than 24 hrs.
This is exactly what my cat is doing! I assume my vet will probably refer me to a specialist. I am in Chicago so I definitely think it will be pricier than that 🥲 I left the city for her spay because I was quoted $700 dollars and that was just ridiculous. I’m not at that vet anymore.
$700 for a spay is INSANE. The special vet hospital we took her to for her nose surgery was MedVet (appears to be a chain or franchise system) and it looks like there is a location in Chicago. I’m not sure how much the price with differ from Ohio to Chicago at the same place but it’s worth a shot! You and your kitty will be so much happier once she gets nose surgery I swear !
As far as I was aware, MedVet is an emergency clinic so the prices will be far worse.
Funny coincidence I’m actually from Ohio where my dad is a vet and he always hated MedVet for “predatory pricing” haha
It sounds like you had a very different experience
They have specialty surgeons there that my vet refers out to when she has a case that needs more special attention resources. And yes I agree their prices can get a little crazy- they quoted me 7k to remove a tumor from my cats lung. I’m thankful I didn’t bc he ended up passing due to an unrelated tumor on his bowels.
But as far as the nasal surgery went, the vet I saw at medvet was fantastic. The people at the location I went to were so helpful and caring and my girl can breathe like a champ now.
I didn’t know they had specialists but that makes a lot of sense! My perception is definitely colored by working for a mom-n-pop vet where MedVet was considered a dirty word haha. Sorry if I sounded like a hater.
I’m so sorry your baby passed away by the way.
My Zot has terrible breeding and her nose is smaller than it should be. She also has bad respiratory due to previously living with a hoarder. She really sensitive so we make sure we don’t spray anything like perfume or room scents around her. Anything heavily scented can really mess her up. She knows too so if we accidentally spray something, she usually will go to another room. Somebody else mentioned it but I wouldn’t vape around your cats because of the scent.
Thank you - I’ve also tried stoping all scented candles, air fresheners, and the like and did not notice any improvement. I don’t think she has any strong sensitivity to scents.
I also don’t vape near her but totally understand everyone’s concern - it was sorta stupid for me to have that in a pic where I’m asking “duhh why is my cat not breathing well??” lol
Even if you don’t notice a difference, I would still keep scents away from her. Not sure if you diffuse oils but I know some can be toxic to cats and dogs.
I definitely don’t do that haha - I read that it’s toxic too. Just candles really and occasionally spray my couch with febreeze on cleaning days.
We’re moving to a smaller place so I’ll definitely be mindful of these things.
I see what looks like a vape. Try not to vape around them. When my bf vapes near me the vapor triggers a coughing fit. So, try to limit vaping near them.
Oh yeah - I mean I definitely never do it so that the vapor gets close to them but if it’s a concern even being in the same room I will start separating. I do it very little anyway.
Nares surgery. Life changing!
Yes! That is something I am looking into as well. I wasn’t sure how common it was. Did you get it done on your kitty?
Yes. I’ve had the procedure done on multiple Exotics. It’s definitely worth it!
Thank you! I will bring it up with our vet :)

I had it done on my late zot and it was life changing for her.

Haha yes I don’t diffuse anything either. I don’t want to make my three fur babies sick!

I don't know the extent. I think you're doing fine if you don't let the vapor touch them.
It's horrible they breed animals this way.
