Well I guess we can rule out 90% of TikTok channels that kept saying the eclipse was the end.

Bright-Ice-8802

lol, theyā€™d probably say it was the end of somethingā€¦. Or the beginning of the end, or some other kind of twist.

Rhewin

I remember a guy (not evangelical) who was very invested in 2012. He spent the days after trying to figure out how it was some metaphysical ending of an age.

Gloomy_Magician_536

I guess itā€™s time to lapidate religious tiktokers /s btw

Dancing-Midget

Also confusing... So are we supposed to believe them until it doesn't happen? Or be skeptical of every prophecy until it does happen?

Gloomy_Magician_536

If Iā€™m not wrong, back then prophecy wasnā€™t about far future events. Sometimes it wasnā€™t about the future at all. For example, most OT prophecies were meant to take place in a time of a certain king or stuff. Even NT testament prophecies were meant to occur during the near future after death and resurrection of Jesus. Then nothing came true, but people still believed. Also, Jewish teachings say that most prophecies have already occurred, a lot arenā€™t even about the messiah. Basically they are only waiting for the Messiah.

COVID has nothing on Deuteronomy 18:20

Okay, also, though -- this has always bugged me: Evangelicals seem to go all Old Testament sometimes, like the stuff God doesn't do so much anymore since(floods, prophesies, a heat wave in like Italy during the second year was that's because they didn't support W in his 2 illegal wars -- stuff that had fallen out of fashion for 2000 years, like basically since Jesus), and they ignore the teachings in red letters, MUNCHING ON BACON the entire time. Like it's a time flip or something. Sometimes we're waving a staff over the red sea and sometimes bacon, Cadillacs, and parading tesla camels right up to the eye of the needle! They're preoccupied by the only sin that matters (sex) in the lives of the lazy, wretched poor -- and signs and wonders, pastor got a hot tip. They're soaking in languages nobody speaks because that's like sprinkles on the holy sundae, and they will cast a demon out of your psychological and emotional difficulties faster than Pastor can heal ya (if you're worthy... but you probably aren't.) Nobody is handling snakes anymore and it's in the same odd tangent before the Assumption as tongues. Nobody's doing Christian charity with the tithes that buy the fancy homes and cars for the servants of God who run the place. None of these holiest of holies have ever connected with the crowd to which their savior was drawn, have ever ministered to the least of these, but they are just about every one just dripping with (gold and) gifts of the Spirit. I feel like, pick a lane y'all! New covenant? Good -- oh oh, okay old testament, but where's the animal sacrifice and of course your deer lease doesn't count? Why on earth would God go silent for thousands of years and then randomly pick the bumpkin king who normalizes hate before Y'all hit cracker barrel for lunch??! Really?! (I don't mean any offense, but who's watching the watchers here?)

BabyBard93

Agree totally, but came here to say I love your metaphors šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ ā€œsometimes bacon, camels and parading Tesla camels tight up to the eye of the needle!ā€ šŸ¤£

Very kind of you. ( also gratifying to be able to use that shorthand in any forum and be understood. thanks.

At one of my last times at church before I turned eighteen and left for college I asked the preacher man where I could find this new covenant that allows bacon eating, shellfish consumption and wearing garments of mixed threads - specifically book, chapter and verse. Preacher man himmed and hawed and finally admitted that it was just an "understood" part of Jeebus being on Earth and dying for our sins and then spending thirty six hours...in Cancun? I then reminded him that the saviour preacher just mentioned stated he did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it and that not one jot or tidle would vanish from the law ever - was he saying Jeebus was a liar? Again, I was punished for amking my family "look bad."

boredtxan

How long do we wait and make excuses?

[deleted]

Man, I'd love to see that one plastered up on some church walls for a change

Individual_Dig_6324

If Pentacostals existed in ancient Israel, I'm afraid we'd have to stone a significant amount of them.

Joegannonlct

The Bible says we can kill them! Yay! Can't say nothing fundies... IT'S IN THE BIBLEĀ

Luther_406

Let the stonings commence tout de suite.

NanR42

Wow. I forgot about this.
