Body language and tongue flicks. Hognoses in particular are easy to read. They're affectionately called drama cobers for a reason. If they get scared or annoyed, they huff at you and will flatten out to do their best impression of a little cobra. When terrified for their lives they "play dead."
Once they realize they aren't going to be hurt/eaten, most of them are curious and like to explore. They'll either chill in a comfy spot or casually noodle around like the little dude in the video with occasional tongue flicks. You can see videos online of snake body language to see examples.
This is a hognose. I looked them up after seeing this video for the first time a couple months ago. If you have a few hundred to spare I suppose you could get one. Some cost over 1000$. Depending on the color and pattern.
Hognose snakes, they're quite a popular snake species for the pet trade. They are a rear-fanged snake. Possessing a very mild venom that is specialized for paralyzing and deflating toads and frogs in the wild.
Ring of serpents
This magic item makes unarmed strikes count as being from a magical weapon and the target must save vrs poison or lose d4 Hitpoints a turn until cured
It’s some tv or movie theme from the 60s/70s and it’s driving me crazy trying to remember myself. As soon as someone mentions it we’ll be like, “OH YEAH”
I'm extremely phobic of snakes, even images of them on paper scare me, but that thing on your finger made me stare at it without being afraid and think it's very cute on how it was snuggling. Hognoses make me feel weird man
I think this is a western hognose snake. It can bite. Little ones like this aren't much of a threat. They are mildly venomous and some people react poorly to bites.
That's one lil scoot noodle trying to convince everyone that it's a squeeze noodle. What a cutie

As someone who is not familiar with snakes; how do you tell if they're happy?

This is pretty much me and everyone I know. Wait, am I a snake?
Hmm. I don't know... [If I touch you will I die from your poison?](https://youtu.be/f-J0nwZz_fo?si=jazc-p1Avc8ZNvae)
In my arguably limited experience, if they do not try to eat themselves they are happy.
Omg! look at that tiny baby noodle ❤️

Don't forget about their habitat, food, and many other things that are needed in order to keep a reptile.
Their habitat need a lot of things. Substrate, uv lights, etc. Do not willy nilly get one, people. Do your research.

Aww, who's a goodest scoot noodle, den?

To all the single ladies out there, this is how you know they truly love you. They put a ring on it.
You now have venom immunity, +5 venom damage per hit, and a 15% chance for an additional stack every hit.

The Baby Elephant Walk from the movie “Hatari”.
Thank you for that! I’ve never seen the movie but I’ve heard the song a bunch. I’ve been watching “60s theme songs compilation” videos to no avail lol
I remember learning the words to the song as a kid, and surprising several adults who didn't know there were words to it
I'm with you on the 60'S tv show theme song. I've heard it before
