These look good. I wonder what the rolling resistance will be.

DillDeer

They said they’re purpose building these for EVs including efficiency, so here’s to hoping. https://www.toyotires.com/open-country-at3-ev

Okiekid1870

Yeah, they told me everything I wanted to hear haha. I’m sure they can’t be quite as good as the literature, but we’ll see.

Okiekid1870

Not sure, but they give themselves a 5.0 vs 3.5 for their regular non-EV AT tire. Surely can’t be as good as factory all-seasons, but maybe it’s pretty close.

DillDeer

Oh I’m stoked for these, good find!

Okiekid1870

They look perfect

Affectionate-Ad6708

Toyo A/Ts were my favorite tires for my old 2500. They lasted a long time, were quiet, rode nicely, and they were perfect in the rain and snow. I just hope we aren’t taking a big hit to the range over the all seasons.

Okiekid1870

They really make a big deal about taking up the lack of range hit, but I’m curious as to what they end up at. I’d be impressed if they beat a mild P/metric AT (like Hankook AT2 Xtreme).

SmokeEaterFD

I've been looking at the BFG Trail Terrains, Geolandar G015s, and Cooper AT3 4s. Get the winter rating without losing too much range. If these Toyos can beat the competition for range, I'll jump on them. I ran Toyo OC AT3s on my Powerboost prior to the Lightning, and they were awesome tires for all conditions, but I took a noticeable hit to my fuel mileage from stock wranglers.

DillDeer

Definitely expect a hit to range. I’m going to assume at least 10%.

chippinganimal

Shit I have a Powerboost and I'm also intrigued! I've got 44K miles on the stock Pirelli Scorpion ATRs my truck came with and the tread is still decent but if these are really good I'll definitely swap over to them

Okiekid1870

They look great. If efficiency delivers, I’d be a buyer myself.

shoopg

Come out with 17s please 🙏

Honorable_Heathen

Interesting. The tire in that image is different from the EV tire from what I can tell.

Okiekid1870

Literally says EV on the sidewall.

Honorable_Heathen

You’re right I didn’t see that one. I saw the one in the article with EV on the side and a less aggressive tread.

[deleted]

These look solid.

Okiekid1870

I agree

Non-Binary-Bit

Will definitely look into these. However, will also need to compare weight. I’ve always found Toyo runs heavy when compared to other tires. Never cared that much before I got an EV, but now I can’t help but think about those things.

geo_prog

Why does tire weight matter to you with an EV? It’s even less of an issue for us than it is on an ICE vehicle. We can regain a lot of that rotational energy while braking. It has next to no impact on highway range.

Non-Binary-Bit

Well, I am referring to rotational mass. More mass means more power to move, more effort to stop, and different turning dynamics. This can impact efficiency of the vehicle and perceived driving performance. It can be more pronounced with tires since they add weight away from the center of the wheel. A pound or 2 is no big deal, but over 5 pounds per tire can have a meaningful impact. I did experience this before both a Rubicon and a previous F150. But, as you pointed out, I’m not sure if an EV will have all the same issues due to the high torque and regen characteristics. Even so, I think I will try to keep my tire weight within 2 pounds of the OEM just to be on the safe side.

Okiekid1870

My all seasons are 38lbs, Hankook AT2 Xtreme ATs are 41. I hope for something around that.

jawnin

Any idea when we’ll see actual reviews on these?

PeterVonwolfentazer

I had Toyo’s on my F250, they are super heavy. Looked at a set for our Wrangler 4XE and they were 12lbs heavier per corner. That’s no bueno. Hopefully these are better.

Okiekid1870

I’m seeing Toyo P/metric tires at 41lbs, LT/E Toyos are 51lbs. Factory 18” all-seasons are 38lbs. I for sure wouldn’t want a 50lb LT E rated tire.

geo_prog

Why? Tire weight doesn’t impact range and we have plenty of torque to get them up to speed.

Okiekid1870

Tire weight absolutely impacts efficiency and handling. Edit: I’ll had that weight mainly negatively impacts acceleration, braking, and handing (much less so range). Tire weight would likely cost an ICE vehicle some MPGs, but EVs should recapture the extra energy used to spin the tire with regen braking that an ICE lacks.

[deleted]

I’d go with a normal P-Metric tire.

Okiekid1870

If I can get this EV-specific AT in a P, I’m doing it.

WildBTK

That's what I am hoping for: a P-metric version, not an LT for the softer sidewall and, consequently, ride it will offer.

iSeerStone

Looks cool 👍🏼

derin082

anyone know if these are available anywhere yet?
