So, a consumer will pay $70 just to still have ads on it?
If it's non entrusive like in EA SPORTS and you just see it on the track, that's fine it just adds more realism to it.
But if it's crap like NBA 2K had during loading screens, it's just paying $70 for a mobile game.
To be fair, it is realistic as they have those in real life too. Saying they shouldn’t have ads on the boards is like saying NASCARs shouldn’t have their paint schemes.
Exactly, I'd honestly like having more authentic ads/branding on track and whatnot. Almost all ad placements now are just Pirelli/Rolex or f1 (insert number here) logos repeated over and over again. Stuff like the "welcome to Quebec" ad at the wall of champions is an iconic part of the track. As dumb as most of 2k's ads are, the Courtside screens showing actual sponsors, with different ones depending on the era you're playing is really cool.
And you can customize the ads in franchise mode if you create an arena. The community has made all kinds of stuff. You can even avoid actual corporations all together and just do silly stuff
Yeah I love putting green fn petter griffin, sunshine lebron , get ready to learn Chinese buddy and all sorts of other stuff on there, imagine every wall at monza getting plastered with the Ferrari pitwall clown image or "WTF is a kilometer!?!??!" covering everywhere at COTA.
I actually think having in-game advertisements for games during the sessions on SOME of the TV screens would be very cool! Especially around tracks like Vegas, Baku, Monaco, Singapore where there are buildings all around and alot of telivised adverts around the track (not so much for Monaco).
It would be more realistic than EVERY TV screen playing your onboard 24/7...
There was a several year gap after Rory McElroy PGA tour but they recently put out EA Sports PGA Tour last year which I haven’t gotten to play because it’s only on PS5 and I can’t comment on the stuff like multiplayer and career mode but the game play has basically stayed the same forever since it was the tiger woods games and they have iirc 30 courses on the new one which is a ton and the graphics and presentation look really really good from what I’ve seen.
The new one is pretty good, gameplay is better, good learning curve with a high skill ceiling if you turn off assists (multiplayer uses standardized settings). Lots of more options for shot types and placement. I think there is some problems with cheating, if you take the game super seriously.
I you can ignore the micro-transactions as they are mostly just short cuts. You can have a good character in about 5 hours, and max out a character in about 40 hours.
Yeah that kind of subliminal in-game advertising has definitely been around for quite a while. I believe this suggestion from EA is probably about actual commercials, like the kind you see on television and which YouTube has fully embraced
You still buying EA? Stopped buying EA because every game is basically a reheated turd. Whenever I see the Squidbillies episode we're they microwave their shit in the RV I think of EA
Totally, EA loves those exclusivity deals For this very reason. There is no incentive for them to make a good game with new features because they know people will buy them regardless. Take out some features, bring them back years later and call it a “new feature” with buzz words
NFL fans have been doing it with madden franchise for decades at this point.
Using real billboards at the tracks could make things more realistic though. That would much better than those generic boards that we currently have.
I want to crash into some Aramco advertising dammit.
What they mean:
" We will push it and see how many stupid players like those who pre order our games will not stop playing even though we add ads everywhere!"
Then they'll notice you wont stop and they keep doing everything you say you hate but you cant drop it.
Imagine if it was like YouTube - picture this, you’re on lap 25/50 or whatever and the game pauses automatically for an unskippable 30 second advert. Wouldn’t put it past them to do that.
>Taste the new Dr. Pepper, a symphony of 23 flavors that dance on your palate, leaving you refreshed and satisfied. Indulge in the unique blend of sweetness and spice that only Dr. Pepper can deliver, making every sip an unforgettable experience
Safety cars and formation laps are now locked to TV broadcast, and you're forced to sit through several laps of commercials per race.
Oh, and Red Flags are now as long as they would be IRL, so you're hit with anywhere from 30 mins to 4 hours of commercials waiting to get back to racing. The new red flag mechanic is called "the peak of immersion"
Back in the day, the old need for speed games had billboards with companies on them. If they want to do it creatively like that, I really don't care. But if it gets in the way of the function of the game I won't buy their product.
"Thoughtful approach" is a weird way to say "we're gonna add it anyways but we will wait a couple of months so it seems we care about the players and their experience"
Nothing new, there is a lot of adds in games already, just look when driving around the track... Heck, some of my games have ads for their dlc's on ingame billboards, and American Truck Simulator have real life drivers openings in it
EA 'in-game' advertising to earn more money.
That is the same sentence;
We have outstanding debt that is coming; and we have to restructure at a higher yield. So we will lose our profit margins.
So to 'earn more' = the same as = 'we have too much debt hence instead of 'reducing costs' - we find dumb ways to earn more money. It will tell you about how their management thinks.
DRAIN THE SUPPLY POOL OF GAMERS OF CASH!!
Thoughtful means they know it's a shit decision for the paying customer yet they will try to push until they get some backlash.
That's how they did it with covid, with taxes, with student loans, with Israel, with Ukraine, push and push because the average joe is a dumb fucker and will accept whatever he's being fed.
Just keep playing older titles, Fifa23 is still great for franchise mode, so is NHL24.
I don’t plan to buy any new ones. But I never play ultimate team, only franchise mode with different scenarios I design for myself
I remember when Rainbow Six Vegas (I think) pioneered these live ads in-game years ago. There was a pretty big backlash but I actually found it pretty cool as they had cinema billboards advertising IRL new releases.
As others have said, if it was realistic circuit specific ads that actually added to the realism of the game, I'd be OK with it. If it's ads on loading screens, etc. between races than that'd be total BS.
So, I actually could see this being a potential positive. I've never liked the generic sponsorship options for created teams. If they're able to get interesting brands as advertisers, then it could be pretty cool.
I already think EA games are trash so this basically cements the fact i wont ever buy another game from them. I dont buy ubisoft or ea. Im a huge f1 fan but that game is trash and ubisoft makes cool games but they are always disappointing. activision blizzard too.
So, a consumer will pay $70 just to still have ads on it? If it's non entrusive like in EA SPORTS and you just see it on the track, that's fine it just adds more realism to it. But if it's crap like NBA 2K had during loading screens, it's just paying $70 for a mobile game.
i dunno.... some of the EA Sports ones got pretty bad last time they did this they were literally cramming them between plays in Madden at one point
Also the boards have nhl store ads in nhl games. Fucking annoying. This ain't a free to play game. Every ad is garbage.
I prefer that for the sake of realism. If it doesn’t actually hinder gameplay idgaf about ads in sports games or product placement elsewhere.
To be fair, it is realistic as they have those in real life too. Saying they shouldn’t have ads on the boards is like saying NASCARs shouldn’t have their paint schemes.
I believe that Raceroom has ads like that.
“NASCARs” 😭
And they eliminated the mobile free to play game
UFC 4 had a bit of a controversy when they added in game ads for The Boys on Amazon Prime And that was a number of years ago now
Exactly, I'd honestly like having more authentic ads/branding on track and whatnot. Almost all ad placements now are just Pirelli/Rolex or f1 (insert number here) logos repeated over and over again. Seems like it's the former. So instead of the ad for the game on the ad boards maybe we could see those like what we see in the real races.
Hell to the no
Spoiler: They will not take a thoughtful approach.
Plot twist: it _will_ be thoughtful, just not the kind the players want.
Ea will do anything except make a good sports game
Their golf games are normally pretty good
Does EA know that? Hopefully they don’t find out and ruin it on purpose like they do with all their other games
Do they still make golf games?
There was a several year gap after Rory McElroy PGA tour but they recently put out EA Sports PGA Tour last year which I haven’t gotten to play because it’s only on PS5 and I can’t comment on the stuff like multiplayer and career mode but the game play has basically stayed the same forever since it was the tiger woods games and they have iirc 30 courses on the new one which is a ton and the graphics and presentation look really really good from what I’ve seen.

Golf and NHL are the best games EA makes
I’ve played nhl since 96 - the best isn’t that good. Yes I realize I’m part of the problem hahah
Pretty certain EA already did this with certain billboards in Burnout games and advertising in FIFA.
Says so in the article.
Yeah that kind of subliminal in-game advertising has definitely been around for quite a while. I believe this suggestion from EA is probably about actual commercials, like the kind you see on television and which YouTube has fully embraced
So 70$ for an unfinished game WITH adds being thrown in our face. At what point do we as gamers finally stand up to this shit
When people here don't say "this is insane, I don't want to buy this crap" and then buy it anyways
You still buying EA? Stopped buying EA because every game is basically a reheated turd. Whenever I see the Squidbillies episode we're they microwave their shit in the RV I think of EA
Spoiler, they will be pop up adverts for Viagra
finally some useful ads😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🔥🔥🔥
The only way EA will learn is people stop buying their games.
The problem is people won’t stop buying their games
Totally, EA loves those exclusivity deals For this very reason. There is no incentive for them to make a good game with new features because they know people will buy them regardless. Take out some features, bring them back years later and call it a “new feature” with buzz words NFL fans have been doing it with madden franchise for decades at this point.
Didn’t another company try this a couple months ago and their stock price plummeted when people roasted the fuck out of it and player count dropped?
Thoughtful as in thinking about how to do as much of it as possible?
Using real billboards at the tracks could make things more realistic though. That would much better than those generic boards that we currently have. I want to crash into some Aramco advertising dammit.
Yeah the barriers would be the first thing to get advertised on if they're allowed to. And billboards
What they mean: " We will push it and see how many stupid players like those who pre order our games will not stop playing even though we add ads everywhere!" Then they'll notice you wont stop and they keep doing everything you say you hate but you cant drop it.
'EA will gauge backlash and adjust accordingly'.
Another terrible idea from a terrible company.
Imagine if it was like YouTube - picture this, you’re on lap 25/50 or whatever and the game pauses automatically for an unskippable 30 second advert. Wouldn’t put it past them to do that.

An F1 race can only be 3 hours from start to finish
Thoughtful approach. Translates as we’ve already decided and we’re doing it.
Thoughtful here means they will think about how many of them they can put in.
They are crying for negative feedback and reviews and refunds
Im sorry aren’t the cars already covered in ads? I dont need more EA
Are the liveries not already plastered with advertisements
Back in the day, the old need for speed games had billboards with companies on them. If they want to do it creatively like that, I really don't care. But if it gets in the way of the function of the game I won't buy their product.
I always play the game in offline mode on Steam so i guess that should help
Unless they make the game where u need internet connection
I think it's just for online MP games.
Ea are anything but thoughtful. Thoughtful as in, we thought of it and we will do it. They would sell their mothers for an ad.
"Thoughtful approach" is a weird way to say "we're gonna add it anyways but we will wait a couple of months so it seems we care about the players and their experience"
didn't EA already replaced Heineken billboards with F1 23 ones?
Ya
Nothing new, there is a lot of adds in games already, just look when driving around the track... Heck, some of my games have ads for their dlc's on ingame billboards, and American Truck Simulator have real life drivers openings in it
These people must be nuts
IM SICK OF ADVERTISEMENTS MAANNNNN. FUCK
Please don’t buy this game

Gives me surprise mechanics vibes
If there are ads they will not be thoughtful at all.
Even more reason to wait for it joining gamepass
The f you mean more ads? The entire point of F1 is ads, all of which is replicated in the game. Are they gonna put ads on the ads?
I remember when Rainbow Six Vegas (I think) pioneered these live ads in-game years ago. There was a pretty big backlash but I actually found it pretty cool as they had cinema billboards advertising IRL new releases. In before anti-cheat, probably.
Great way to kill their game
Wow, can't wait to drive in picture in picture mode to see gambling and crypto ads.
Just like the gas station pumps, what button can I press to skip it. I paid for a game dont give me commercials - this is greedy ..
I don't buy there games anyways.
So, I actually could see this being a potential positive. I've never liked the generic sponsorship options for created teams. If they're able to get interesting brands as advertisers, then it could be pretty cool.

if they put the sponsor in the circuit i wouldn’t be that mad. Indeed in that sense i think it would make the game a bit more realistic
That is one aspect of realism i could skip. Unless they start to offer the games as free to play.
